Read 2 times. Last read September 6, 2022 to October 28, 2022.
I loved this book as much as I loved the first. A great continuation of the story without rehashing the same themes and situations. It's an entirely different kind of story but one that fits perfectly with its predecessor, which is pretty rare. I compared Skyward to Ender's Game, but where Ender's sequel, Speaker for the Dead, was a *completely* different kind of story which may not appeal to those who loved the original (especially younger readers), Starsight is clearly still aimed at the same audience.
Another great aspect of these books is that you don't have to be young or have a preference for YA in order to enjoy them, they're just great sci-fi stories that can appeal to readers of all ages. I happily recommend them to everyone.

I've read pretty much everything by Sanderson except his Alcatraz series. How would you say this series hold up for an adult reader?

Hey Mark!
Honestly this series doesn't read much like YA to me at all. It's largely single-POV and there may be some little bits that make it feel aimed at a less mature audience, but overall I enjoyed both books from an adult perspective. In fact I like this series a lot more than The Reckoners, the story and characters are more interesting to me.
Alcatraz is definitely more of a middle-grade series, and I was not very into the first one but since I read them to my son I came to like them a lot more as the series went on.
