with a deep sigh, she closes the book and steals a glance at the clock. its barely 10pm and she knows its already beginning.
she can feel it in the way her body tenses at every noise that threatens the peaceful quiet. its in the way her heart skips a beat at every floating movement she swears she sees, just beyond her periphery. its the onset of fear.
how silly she is for reading a horror book at such an hour! ‘you knew this would happen, with your overactive imagination,’ she scolds herself.
her only consolation is by already being tucked into the comforting warmth of her bed.
she melts further beneath the covers, wondering how long its physically possible for a person to go without sleep. for in sleep, the fears become real. for in sleep, nightmares thrive.
so she lays there, too terrified to close her eyes.
she becomes acutely aware of every shift in the darkness, the shadows dancing in delight across the walls. and shes convinced they begin to merge into the shape of a clown…
her phone pings suddenly. in the silence of the night, the sound is as harsh as a balloon popping beside her.
she flinches. she gasps.
in the distance, sirens.
she resigns herself for a long night.

I saw the movie too , was just like the movie - the shining had the book and character names , but had nothing to do with the book other than one scene, but the books fantastic though
i can tell how much you love it based on your profile picture, matthew! hehe. and i do love tim curry, so i will think about it. :P
I probably shouldn't have, but I laughed at this. Great review. I hope you'll be able to sleep soon :) I think I'll be terrified myself when I read it
sara - awww. thanks, babe! the book actually has some really touching moments, but yeah. clowns are not for me. lol.
nat - this book had a lot of triggering content, so i completely agree with your decision. and you wont be missing much, anyway. :P

Incredible review Jess! I love how I clearly I was able to picture you being afraid at night haha, I so want to read this book but at the same time I don't think I'm ready to be that scared :P
hahaha. awww. thanks, luupi! it was such a big book, that it took me about a week to get through it, reading for about an hour each night before i went to bed. in hindsight, that may not have been the best plan. lol. but i dont regret reading it, regardless of how much it creeped me out! 🙈
Lol 😂🤣 No, it wasn't as scary for me. Of course in real life that would be totally different!! Plus I have read it a couple of times 😉
oh! after talking with a friend, i realised that the book is actually very deep. so i might reread this down the line to try to pick up things i missed the first time around!
im listening to the IT audio book read by Stephen Webber its brilliant , hes fantastic at doing different voices
