Finally!!! The ending these two should have got without the torture they both went through.
This is book 2 of a duo, book 1 being Ghostgirl.
This book picks up where book 1 ended.
Milo and Mercy are still living at Milo's fathers compound in Mexico. In order for them to be safe Milo has to do his fathers bidding. He's forced to do things he knows he can never wipe from his soul but he does them for her. Mercy.
Mercy is slowly going made being locked away again. All her life she was trapped in a room with no exit. She may not be there anymore but she feels as though she is. She knows Milo wants to keep her safe but she can't stand being kept locked up.
Milo is trying to find the people who cause a threat to Mercy but he's not having much luck. The secrecy surrounding the MUTI is impenetrable and not even his fathers name is getting access. He see's the change in Mercy but he can't do anything to help. His fathers compound is the only place she will be safe so he keeps her there even though he knows she can't take much more.
Mercy is doing her own digging into the MUTI and what she finds is horrifying. She is determined to help the victims of them but she doesn't know how. Kept locked up she becomes desperate and paranoid. She's not sure what Milo is up to. She knows staying in the compound is killing her and Milo.
Can these two ever have a life of freedom? It's looking less and less likely they will both survive.
I just absolutely loved this duo. Book 1 introduces us to two characters like no others. I loved the uniqueness of them both and book 2 gives us the journey they both take and finally the HEA you will hope for from the very beginning.
The author makes you care so much about both these characters. Mercy will break your heart. She's been through so much in her short life. But the way she grows from an innocent victim of abuse to the strong independent woman she is at the end is wonderful to read. Her soul is so beautiful and maybe that is because of her terrible beginning, who knows. But what i do know is that she has a heart of gold and it shines like a beacon throughout both books.
Milo is so swoony!! Honestly he's also been given a rubbish life from birth. With who his father is he didn't have much chance of a good life but his innate goodness will not be tempered. You see his love for his brothers and when he meets Mercy his protective instincts go into overdrive. I love how after his initial reaction he simply falls head over heels for her. And when his Spanish tongue comes out you'll be an absolute goner!! YUM!
This book pulls you along for the tough road they travel. The beginning shows the struggles they go though to be together. The middle shows you them breaking day by day trying to survive. The end... ohhhhh what an ending!! You'll absolutely hate parts but what pans out is the best ending ever for them.
The writing is impeccable. You feel everything. You hunger for revenge and death on their behalf. You'll weep for the heartache they've been through and continue to live, but the happy tears you get are worth it all.
JB Salsbury always delivers a gritty read and this is no exception. I loved it!!
