it was ok

I almost bailed on this a couple of times, but it is short and has gotten such critical acclaim that I decided to power through. There is a thin story about a woman grief-stricken over the death of a friend and how she cares for his dog. But a lot of the book is just ramblings about various topics. There is also a lot of whining about how tough it is to be a writer and the state of literature today and how everybody thinks they can write, etc. 🙄

Anita Pomerantz I am laughing because before I read your synopsis I had asked my library to get this one on Overdrive. They kindly did. Now I don't really want to read it.

Marcia Mid way through and just about ready to put it down. I’ve been feeling like the odd man out and see now that I’m not alone.

David Doty My thoughts exactly. I listened to it on Audible and it was all I could do to power through to the end. I don't get the hype.

Lark Benobi There is also a lot of whining about how tough it is to be a writer and the state of literature today and how everybody thinks they can write

Yes. I kept thinking "try coal mining, or even night shift at Denny's"

Exactly.

Rob Nankin Agreed. The book came highly recommended but I ended up skimming through it from about the halfway point. I didn’t like the narrative or the narrator and frankly it was boring.

Kelly Hobgood 100% agree

Jody Hackerott gibney I totally agree. I would add, though, that there’s so many great books out there, I probably should have bailed and moved on. It did have its beautiful moments, but largely a big snooze

Noelle Yes. I’m over half-way through and I feel like I’m just reading someone’s stream-of-consciousness journal. The dog (who I had no idea shares the name of my dog when I bought this) doesn’t even seem to be a central part of the book. At least not up to Part Seven, which I’m about to start.

Jeannie Adams I’m 1/3 through and wondering why I’m not listening to a dog story. Blah blah blah...

Kathy Simcox Jerrie, I am inclined to agree with you. I am currently about 100 pages to the end and I'm having the same struggles about ramblings. I hopped on Goodreads to read some of the comments and I'm sorry to say I don't agree with most. Like you I'm going to power through it because I'm so far into it. Thank you for your comment.

L. A. Also a lot of critiques about female students, in particular :(
