1 Star

I really did not enjoy this. Literally, I could not find one thing that I enjoyed in this play. Nothing. There was not one character I could connect to or identity with. So, if I wasn't bored, I was mad at Troy for being so blatantly sexist.

Honestly, plays just aren't my thing, so I cannot wait until the day I no longer have to read them for English classes.

I hate Troy with a passion

Eliza @Lily Right? I understand how he makes the play what it is, but I just couldn't get passed him disgusting ways. Plus, everything else was boring. :/

Lynn I was shocked at the sexism in the movie version, never seeing or reading the play. The wife is supposed to put up with her husband's behavior and settle because, miracle of miracles, his girlfriend gives birth to a desired baby girl, dies and becomes the light of mom's life? Oh brother! But then, the play was written really well! Lol!

Eliza @Lynn I saw the movie too, so I know what you're talking about. It's quite shocking isn't it? 😕 Men. I swear...haha

Is the play the same way?

If anything, it's worse. In my opinion! But they're pretty much the same thing. The author wrote the screenplay after all.

Lynn A misogynist who hints that African American women better stick with their "good" men (like him?) or else. They won't get anything better and they might get to raise another woman's kids and should be happy about it.
