“What’s your call sign?”
“It’s, ah—call sign Rogue. Rogue One”
One of the best movie novelizations there is.
I remember when I saw this movie in theaters. I fell in love with it—the characters, the story—right then and there. Even my mom, who thought The Force Awakens was so-so, was blown away by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. When I discovered the novelization, I knew it was one I needed to add to my ever growing collection. Once I got my hands on a copy, I took my time with it slowly.
Not because it was bad, no. But because it’s so incredibly good.
I wanted to take my time with it, and take my time I did. It’s funny how, when you want to take your time reading an incredible book, sometimes you blow through it quick and fast instead. I think the reason why I was able to take my time with this, however, was because I knew how the ending played out. I knew the fate of each character within this story. And I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to them, again, so soon.
It’s funny. When I first watched the film, Cassian was my favorite with his droid companion not far behind. When I read the book, that didn’t change, but K-2SO stepped up onto the platform which only housed Cassian. Then it was Jyn Erso and Bodhi Rook, followed by Chirrut Îmwe and Baze Malbus. They’re all such amazing and unique characters.
I adored the added bits and pieces in this novelization, one example being the reaction of the Hammerhead Lightmaker’s Captain when Raddus tells him of his plan to destroy the orbital station.
As always, the audiobook is spot on when it comes to production. Jonathan Davis once again does an extraordinary job with the delivery of lines. The sound effects and music are, as always, spot on and add to the immersion. So not only is Rogue One: A Star Wars Story one of my favorite films and novelizations, but it’s also one of my favorite audiobooks to listen to.
Now that I’ve read this again, for the third time, I believe it’s safe to say this is by far my favorite Star Wars novelization to date.
It gets a perfect score of 10 out of 10.

Chapter 7 still makes me shiver, even after all these rereads. Just—those little glimpses of people's lives before Jedha's destruction. 💔

""Sometimes good people meet bad ends."
Still one of the best scenes, in my opinion. It's been a while since I watched the movie (which I hope to remedy once I finish reading the novelization!), but I love the added detail of how Cassian saw it and Baze tells him, "Don't praise him. You're lucky he didn't hit you." 🤭"

Scarif is such a gorgeous planet.
I'd seriously love to visit it if it existed.
Anyway, even though I know what's in store, I'm still not quite ready to say goodbye. I just—I love this story. I love these characters. So very much. 🫶🥹"
