Killian (Avalon, #1)

Killian was my Wednesday read and I enjoyed this book a lot. I was through with it within two days because it is such an easy, fast paced read. I loved the two main characters, Killian and Reagan. This one has it all: old prophecies, myths, sexy warriors, secrets waiting to be unraveled, humor and romance. [Read more...] They were so cute and awkward together, it made me smile at them all the time. But their background stories are very dark and none of them wants to share the tough things they had to through. But I like the way they pull through together and try to find a way to turn everything for the better.
The overall world created by the author is a wonderful depiction of where humans live, and where they'd like to live (the realm of fairies, Avalon). I would have loved for Avalon to be a little more detailed, a little bit more culture, food and things like that. Because I am a person who loves diving into alternative worlds.
The writing style, as mentioned, was quite fast paced and the story was told mostly by Reagan's perspective. I would have liked to hear a little more about Killian because he was so, so wonderful. He is an awesome guy, the kind of boyfriend every little girl wants. I really want to look into his head and see what he thought of some situations of why he did the things he did because this guy was an enigma at times. Though a sexy one, mind you. Reagan's mom didn't tell her daughter without a reason to be wary of the hot guys ;)
There was a certain amount of drama that I couldn't decide if I liked it or not to be honest. Sometimes I felt that the characters were the coolest people/ friends every but then they would just not react to something that was obviously very important, at least in my book, and then I wasn't sure what to thing of these things.
I kind of seem to trash the book here, but I am not. There is a reason I stayed up so long to finish this novel in record time. It was interesting, intriguing and had the right amount of humor. I was laughing my arse off half of the time and at some scenes I was almost crying. The end was so horrifying and unsatisfying at the same time, because I want MORE and I want it now. That's why I will buy the second book of the series, Treachery, as soon as I finish typing this review.
I can't wait to read what will happen next and who the villain is because there has to be one! This series has a lot of potential, I just have to know what Kelly did with my favourite characters.
Even though there are some minor things that confused me or I would have liked for the author to explain, or give background to, I can say that Killian is a good for everyone who loves a easy-to-read paranormal romance novel.
Final remark: If you wish to buy this book for somebody as present or otherwise, or are generally uncomfortable with certain topics, please bear in mind that this book does contain one (and a half) very explicit sexual scenes and choice words.
