it was amazing

5 stars......I am at a loss for words.......upon finishing this memoir, I am so full of intense emotion yet I feel empty at the same time......

This is a DEEPLY moving and powerful book about the author's experience in concentration camps and the atrocities that happened during the Holocaust. Words cannot describe how I truly feel about what I read on these pages. It is impossible for us, as readers, to truly fathom this piece of history, unless we lived it. I hope everyone takes the time to read this 120 page memoir at some point in their lives. The author was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986 calling him a "messenger to mankind" for his written works. We simply cannot risk forgetting.

Mischenko I love your review. It's so true we cannot forget. This has to be one of the most moving books from a holocaust survivor I've ever read. I really hope everyone reads this book. It's sad we lost him in 2016.

Brenda ~The Book Witch Great review Lindsay This is one of the first books I read on the holocaust. My sons read it and encouraged me to read it.

Melissa Lovely review, Lindsay! It's been years since I've read it, but I remember it was quite moving.

Thank you Brenda! This books provides a good opportunity to discuss Holocaust history. In researching this book, I found out that many schools have this included in their ciriculum. I think that is such a great idea to ensure this piece of history is not forgotten.

Louise Morris It was a heartbreaking read. It was a book that had to be read in one sitting.

Midniteillusion I read this book in high school, I won't mention how many years ago, and I can still remember how deeply it touched me. I've never forgotten it. I've always remembered it, thought about it and the man often, was very sad about his passing this last year as well.

Lindsay L Louise wrote: "It was a heartbreaking read. It was a book that had to be read in one sitting."

You are absolutely right Louise! I read it in 2 sittings but wished I had the time to do it in 1. Very heartbreaking and powerful.

Midniteillusion - I think that is fantastic that you read this in high school! I wish I would have read it back then. I think it is such a powerful and important book that should be promoted as an educational tool. Like yourself, I know I won't ever forget reading this book. Thanks for the message!

Jennifer ~ TarHeelReader I loved your review, Lindsay! I read Night first in high school, and it still stays with me. I read a similar book that I just finished today, The One Hundred Year Walk, a first hand account of the Armenian genocide during WWI. Just like Night, it's one I'll never forget.

message 36: by Cat (new) - rated it 4 stars

Cat Freeman You said that very well, Lindsay! I read Night my senior year of high school, after having read an historical fiction series about the Holocaust, and it was moving, hard to read, and something everyone should read.

Thank you Cat! It's so great to hear that high schools include this book in their ciriculum (mine didn't). I think that is wonderful. It's such a huge piece of history that we should never forget.

Cheri Loved your review, Lindsay, this was such an incredibly powerful little - in terms of pages - story.

Lindsay L Thank you Kellie! Such a powerful book! Sorry I didn’t see your comments until now 🩷

Carmel Hanes Full and empty pretty much sums this one up. Such awful history, but I'm glad for those who record it so we can all remember and learn....
