The Total Package was an enjoyable football related story. This was my first Stephanie Evanovich novel and I was glad that I took a chance on this new author to me.
This book is a second chance romance story. I thought the overall storyline was interesting and was able to keep my attention for the most part. I will be honest I was about to give up on this book, but pushed through and I am glad I did because the story got better as the book progressed. What I think was the hardest thing for me when reading this book was that I really didn’t feel a huge connection to the characters. I think that is primarily because this story is written in the third person, so it was more like someone was telling me the story, instead of feeling the emotions of the actual characters. (Which we get when a book is written in the first person) I think this book could’ve been closer to a 5 star read for me had it been written in the 1st person.
Other than that I really did enjoy the story. I also liked all the characters we met, I just wish I could’ve gotten more of their emotions throughout the book. I felt the story was paced very well and flowed nicely. There were some time jumps in this story but I still felt everything moved along smoothly and I really didn’t feel like I was missing anything.
In this book we meet Dani Carr and Tyson Palmer. Tyson is a NFL Quarterback and when the story starts out, he is down on his luck. He has been suspended from the league and released from his team. He has turned to drugs and alcohol and pretty much has given up on life. This is where Dani comes in….or should I say Ella. Ella has been in love with Tyson for awhile. She was his tutor in college and runs into him again in a local pub on campus. This meeting turns into a steamy reconnection, that is until Tyson leaves her crying and alone. I have to admit I didn’t really like Tyson much at this point. He had a lot of redeeming to do in my eyes. Fast forward 4 years and Dani is reunited with Tyson, except he doesn’t remember her. Will Tyson remember Dani? Will these two get their HEA?? You’ll have to read the book to get those answers.
I also enjoyed the secondary characters we met during the story. I loved Dani’s family…they were so supportive. Marcus was great too….not what I was expecting from him. I wouldn’t mind reading a story about him some day.
If you are a fan of a second chance romance or football related story, then I would say give this a try. It’s a fairly quick and easy read without a lot of drama.
