The New York Times bestselling author of Big Girl Panties and The Sweet Spot is back with a funny, sweet, and sizzling novel about the game of love, in which a hot quarterback must figure out how to score big with a beautiful and talented media analyst after a heartbreaking fumble.
Star quarterback, first-round draft-pick, and heartthrob Tyson Palmer has made a name for himself with his spectacular moves. When the head coach of the Austin Mavericks refuses to let him waste his million-dollar arm, Tyson makes a Hail Mary pass at redemption and succeeds with everyone . . . except Dani, whose negative comments about his performance draw high ratings and spectacular notices of her own.
Dani can’t forgive Tyson’s transgressions or forget the sizzling history the two of them shared in college, a passionate love Tyson casually threw away. And even more infuriating, he doesn’t realize that the bombshell with huge ratings is the cute girl whose heart he once broke.
But can a woman trying to claw her way to the top and a quarterback who knows all about rock bottom make it to the Super Bowl without destroying each other? And what will happen when Tyson—riding high now that he’s revived his career—realizes he needs to make an even more important comeback with Dani? Can he make some spectacular moves to get past her defenses—or will she sideline him for good?
Stephanie Evanovich is a full-fledged Jersey girl who began writing fiction while waiting for her cues during countless community theater projects. She attended New York School of Film and Television and acted in several improvisational troupes and a few small-budget movies, all in preparation for the greatest job she ever had, raising her two sons. Now a full-time writer, she's an avid sports fan who holds a black belt in tae kwon do.
I was expecting more of a fluffy, light read, but this novel tackles more serious topics than most chick lit books. I enjoyed the transformation of main character, Tyson Palmer, but his evolution seemed a little too quick and convenient. I couldn't really get behind the connection between Tyson and Dani because it seemed to have come out of nowhere and was forced; they didn't know each other all that well in college, yet Dani was in love with him and remained so for many years to follow.
The writing style irked me because it seemed disjointed at times and some of the characters said things I didn't understand or that seemed to have no context. The banter between them was awkward, and I kept thinking, "Who actually talks like that?" Another small problem I have is that when one of the female side characters, Amanda, has a good reason for not drinking alcohol at a celebration, she asks Dani and Holly, another side character, to cover for her and drink from her glass to fool her husband. She goes to such lengths to make her husband think she is drinking, but why could she not just tell him she didn't want to drink if he asked? The women in the novel seemed to be a little too subservient for my taste.
All in all, this was a fast read that was enjoyable enough for what it was, but I had several issues that just made the book "ok" for me.
I won this in a Goodreads giveaway - thank you Goodreads, Stephanie Evanovich, and William Morrow.

Stephanie Evanovich, the New York Times bestselling author, pens her new chick-lit drama, The Total Package, that narrates the love story of a quarterback on the football team who is trying to atone for his past mistakes both on professional as well as personal front, and am ambitious hot and sexy side-line sports reporter, who has her own secrets to keep her away from the man who once broke her heart.
Synopsis:
Smart and sexy Dani Carr knows as much about football as any man--maybe more. It’s always been her dream to make a living talking about the game she loves. But Dani’s not interested in being just the usual eye-candy sideline reporter; she wants to be the first woman analyst on a pre-game show, the ultimate in exclusive boys-club jobs. And it turns out, that despite the odds, she has the talent to get her there.
Star quarterback-and heartthrob--Tyson Palmer always did things in spectacular fashion, including ruining his career after debuting as a first-round draft pick. When the head coach of the Austin Mavericks refuses to let him waste his million dollar arm, Tyson makes a Hail Mary pass at redemption and succeeds with everyoneexcept Dani, who appears to be using her high-profile commentator job to make a name for herself at his expense.
Dani refuses to let anyone forget about Tyson’s transgressions….and for good reason. There’s history between these two, sizzling history that dates back to their college days, and it ended in another spectacular flame-out of Tyson’s. He’s conveniently forgotten all about that episode because Dani is no longer the cute girl next door he barely remembers--she’s a bombshell with huge ratings and a long memory.
But can a woman trying to claw her way to the top and a quarterback who knows all about rock bottom make it to the Super Bowl without destroying each other in the process? And what will happen when Tyson-riding high on his career comeback-realizes he needs to make an even more important comeback with Dani?
Tyson Palmer is the famous quarterback who was a heart-breaker, but after a stint at a rehab owning to his substance addiction, he is a reformed man now. And is more focused on his game rather than chasing skirts and breaking them. Tyson's eye catches the sexy reporter whom he could not recognize from his destructive and wild past. Will he get to make this woman fall for him despite of so much reluctance from her end?
Dani Carr is the hot and sexy side-line sports reporter, who after spending one night in the company of Tyson and in end getting her heart broken, is now adamant that she won't give her heart to this man anymore, also because of the secret that she keeps more close to her heart than any man. Dani is now ambitious and the distraction of Tyson being there all the time is not helping her at all. Will she get away from the man who once broke her heart?
The author's writing style is quite charming and at times the narrative is layered with funny anecdotes and with lots of emotional moments. The narrative is engaging and at times bit cheesy, considering the fact that this is a dramatic romance chick-lit story. The pacing at times goes from being slow to being medium. There are some mundane day to day activities mentioned page after page that put me off for a bit and the time jumps are way too abrupt, which made it real difficult for me to comprehend with the main characters' feelings.
The characters are well-developed and they go through a lot of evolution given the challenges they had to face all through the story. Dani is incurably in love with the man who broke her heart ages ago, it seems she could not get over him and still fancies him. And this distraction made it difficult for her to achieve success in her job as a sports presenter. Tyson is the character, whom I really liked through out the story. He is handsome and level-headed, but Tyson when he was in college was wild and an addict. I loved the reformed Tyson much better as he turned into an understanding jock. Moreover, the issues with Tyson are depicted with lots of sensitivity and realism. The supporting characters are also quite well-crafted.
The love story between Tyson and Dani is sweet in the beginning then it turned something compassionate. Their love grew eventually with time. The love scenes between them are projected with passion and depth that can make the readers feel for the characters.
Overall, this is a charming and entertaining story that will make you fall in love with the idea of love yet one more time.
Verdict: Chick-lit fans can give this book a try!

No idea when Andy actually sent me this wonderful book but I can gladly say that I found time to read it.
The Total Package was a cute second chance at romance for Tyson and Dani. Even though at the beginning of this book she was Ella.. which confused me to no end. I did like their little relationship but I knew that this huge secret between them wasn't good. I kept twiddling my thumbs waiting for it to final come out but it didn't until the end of this book. Which definitely annoyed me because this secret had so many opportunities to come out.
Besides that, I will admit this little romance felt a little pushed on me. Or maybe on them. I get that they had a one night stand so long ago but I don't know - at times it felt natural and other times it felt forced. Maybe it's my tired eyes reading into things but that's how I felt.
Other than romance, this is a football book.. with little football action. I wouldn't necessarily call it a sports book but I mean.. Tyson did play football for most of this book. Plus Dani did work for the same team for a while. So, yeah.. 'sports' book.
Overall, this book was cute. The ending was adorable because of a certain someone who was my favorite character of this book. Wish I got more of him.
Right from the beginning it was no secret that I knew how this story was going to end. However, it was still fun to read this book. Tyson really did a complete 180 improvement on his life. He was more mature, thoughtful, a good friend and team mate. Dani is a fighter. I like that she fought hard for her career to make sure she was taken seriously as a sports commentator .
The funniest moments were when Dani was drunk and she was trying to seduce Tyson. I could tell her lack of experience was playing a big part. Not that this is a bad thing. It just showed that Dani would not give her heart to just anyone. Although, watching Dani in action was funny and charming. Tyson showed that he could be a perfect gentleman. It took all his will power. I felt the strong connection between these two. If you are a fan of this author's or are a new reader, you will enjoy this book. Tyson truly is the total package.
When the story starts, Tyson Palmer, is a washed up, pill-popping drunken professional athlete on a path to self-destruction. Definitely not what you think of as a romantic hero. But he takes an offered second chance and turns things around.
Then, shockingly, the story changed and skipped ahead a few years. WHAT? No, no, no.... I was looking forward to READING what was going to happen during those skipped years! And then all of a sudden, it was torn away and everything had already happened.
I had high hopes for this one, but they weren't quite met.
Tyson’s professional football career is just about to hit rock bottom. Coming back to his Alma mater, he is faced with ridicule and disgust. Except for Ella, she offers to love, support and friendship. He takes her then leaves her in the dust only to have his party life style nearly destroy all his chances at furthering his career.
Tyson is given a singular chance to turn his life around, rehab, a professional trainer and a contract that could pull him out of the downward spiral. He decides to make these drastic changes and thrives…all expect for a spitfire’s journalist that haunts him.
When a new team mate demands said journalist, Dani (aka Ella) joins their team, Tyson finds himself drawn toward the woman that has thrown a curve ball into stellar return performance.
Dani always dreamed about the day she would reunite with Tyson…but it doesn’t go as planned. He doesn’t even recognizer her and worse, her misadvised comment ends up labeling Tyson. Of course, it’s the opposite of… I had your baby and I still love you. Can she break the down the barrier and share her biggest secret?
I enjoyed The Total Package. I really enjoyed the way Tyson reinvents himself, surrounds himself with positive people and learns to heal those old wounds. Don’t get me wrong, the story isn’t overly deep or emotional but overall a nice easy read.
I received this ARC copy of The Total Package from William Morrow in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication March 15, 2015.

What a great beach read! Genuinely nice and humble characters, a little football fun and a good romance - a recipe for some nice and easy summer reading!
I usually love sports romances, but I have to admit that this one just wasn’t for me.
First of all I had some problems with the writing. This book is written in omniscient third person and while it was fun to read for some chapters, it became confusing and not very enticing later on.
In the first chapter we see Tyson and Dani hookup, after she had tutored him a few years back. Tyson was a terrible point of his life, an addict, about to lose his job and with a lot of scandals surrounding him. Somehow, Dani believes she can fix him, so she decides to sleep with him, in hopes that from just that, he’ll turn his life around. Obviously things don’t turn out that way, at all.
The book then follows Tyson road to sobriety, which was quite interesting to read, but utterly slow and it provided nothing to the romance development. We spend the first third of the book learning how deep Tyson has fallen and how he has risen… rehab, training, eating, making friends… it’s a kind of boring exposition his day to day life for a few months. Then he get’s back to the team and the book jumps ahead 4 years. I was ok with the time jump, but all that came before should have been shortened.
When the time jumps, we finally get another look at Dani. Well, let’s just say that her hookup over 4 years before had consequences, and while building her reporting career – which she does because she somehow wants to get near Tyson, she got mad at him because Tyson didn’t recognized her and accidentally uttered some words of animosity towards him. When they end up working on the same place, it’s clear that she’s still has feelings for the guy, and they end up becoming close in the process…
As I said, I had a lot of problems with this one. Apart from the writing style, which irked me at times, the dialog, especially between Dani and Tyson, was cringeworthy. I mean, who says “I could love you” after not seeing someone for years?
Then there’s the characters… while I appreciated Tyson, I couldn’t bring myself to like Dani. This is a girl who at 19 decided she was in love with a guy, which is ok, but almost 10 years later, and without that much contact, she was still very much in love with him. Then she did something that is on my “shit” list, and while I understood it at first, I couldn’t stand it after they got closer again.
Ultimately the pacing was off, the writing style was not my favorite and the main couple lacked something… and said the most weird things to each other… I didn’t love it, but it’s not that it’s bad, you know? Just OK…
“I’m a weed-smoking, pill-popping alcoholic. No crack or smack. I had to draw the line somewhere.”
“Sometimes I don’t know what was harder, straightening out my head or my heart.”
“One look at her in this outfit and the most memorable gift her father got this Christmas would’ve been a stroke. She pulled at the tags under her arm and caught sight of the designer – Tart Collections. Never was a garment so aptly named.”
“Her dreams and reality had finally merged, and she was still reeling (although maybe that was thanks to her first, well several, orgasms that had nothing to do with batteries). Now Dani fully understood what all the fuss was about.”
“Sweetheart. I would sit with Satan and present a united front if it helped you. That’s just what mothers do.”
“For way too long now, I’ve kept my distance from people. Not because I didn’t think they were worthy, but because I didn’t think I was.”
My Review:
I wasn’t sure what to expect but I enjoyed this endearing story of second chances and redemption. The writing was emotive, insightful, and entertaining and the plot was generally well paced although the characters did go back and forth in their timelines as they recalled their memories and histories. Toss in a bit of intrigue, clever humor, and some steamy sensual scenes and you have an interesting read on your hands. This was my first Stephanie Evanovich read but it certainly will not be my last.
I liked how this book mentions characters from Stephanie's other books. Quick, fun book. I'm taking off one star because I really didn't care for the bit where she keeps the truth from Tyson.
I really enjoyed this romantic sports story. It involves two people who meet in college, one who is in a downward spiral, but claws his way back up to the top. The other becomes a sports reporter who never really forgot her first crush. They meet each other later in life and become friends but one is holding a secret from the other. A fun romantic second chance book, with football!

~ 3.5 Stars ~
The Total Package was an enjoyable football related story. This was my first Stephanie Evanovich novel and I was glad that I took a chance on this new author to me.
This book is a second chance romance story. I thought the overall storyline was interesting and was able to keep my attention for the most part. I will be honest I was about to give up on this book, but pushed through and I am glad I did because the story got better as the book progressed. What I think was the hardest thing for me when reading this book was that I really didn’t feel a huge connection to the characters. I think that is primarily because this story is written in the third person, so it was more like someone was telling me the story, instead of feeling the emotions of the actual characters. (Which we get when a book is written in the first person) I think this book could’ve been closer to a 5 star read for me had it been written in the 1st person.
Other than that I really did enjoy the story. I also liked all the characters we met, I just wish I could’ve gotten more of their emotions throughout the book. I felt the story was paced very well and flowed nicely. There were some time jumps in this story but I still felt everything moved along smoothly and I really didn’t feel like I was missing anything.
In this book we meet Dani Carr and Tyson Palmer. Tyson is a NFL Quarterback and when the story starts out, he is down on his luck. He has been suspended from the league and released from his team. He has turned to drugs and alcohol and pretty much has given up on life. This is where Dani comes in….or should I say Ella. Ella has been in love with Tyson for awhile. She was his tutor in college and runs into him again in a local pub on campus. This meeting turns into a steamy reconnection, that is until Tyson leaves her crying and alone. I have to admit I didn’t really like Tyson much at this point. He had a lot of redeeming to do in my eyes. Fast forward 4 years and Dani is reunited with Tyson, except he doesn’t remember her. Will Tyson remember Dani? Will these two get their HEA?? You’ll have to read the book to get those answers.
I also enjoyed the secondary characters we met during the story. I loved Dani’s family…they were so supportive. Marcus was great too….not what I was expecting from him. I wouldn’t mind reading a story about him some day.
If you are a fan of a second chance romance or football related story, then I would say give this a try. It’s a fairly quick and easy read without a lot of drama.
I have really mixed feelings about this book. I liked the whole second chance love thing it had going on but just didn’t like the way it all played out.
Tyson is a star quarterback that has hit rock bottom but not before he has a one night stand with a girl he went to college with.
Four years later his whole life has changed, someone has reached out and helped him turn his life around, for the better. He is on top of his game and has never been happier. Then Dani Carr comes along and he finds himself completely drawn to her.
Dani has her own hidden agenda though and will not reveal it until she can see that Tyson is a changed man. However, the longer she spends time with him the harder it is to tell him her real reason for coming back into his life.
I guess this is where I had issues with this story. When all is revealed it is just accepted and then we just keep moving on. I felt that this particular part of the story warranted a lot more depth and feeling but that is just my opinion.
I liked this book but still felt like it could have given me more, I wanted to wade more in the depths of it and not paddle in the shallow waters.
Fans of Susan Elizabeth Phillips will simply adore THE TOTAL PACKAGE!
Not only do you get a hero who starts out at the bottom of the barrel, and a heroine who goes from sweet tutor to a sassy "gonna take him down" power house, but you also get a wonderful and funny story about personal growth, growing up and making changes and maybe finding the love of your life in the process.
I was swept away, sucked in, and left with a huge smile on my face! What more can you ask for? If you are a fan of SEP's Chicago Stars Series, you will absolutely love THE TOTAL PACKAGE!
I am a huge Stephanie Evanovich fan! I have to say she really upped her game with this one. The characters are rich and fully developed and very enjoyable. As always, I'm looking forward to more from this lady!
This is definitely my least favorite of the three books that Stephanie Evanovich has published so far. I don't mind "fluff," but I found this story way too unbelievable. I mean there are two major issues in this book -- one of them being addiction (which is not a spoiler as it's referred to in the book description) -- and I just felt they were both glossed over and dealt with in a far too simplistic manner. Another thing that bothered me was that, to me, Dani came across as a pretty pathetic character for the majority of this book.
I don't want to rip this book apart, because I have enjoyed this author's other work (especially Big Girl Panties), and if you just go into this story for a light read without much substance you won't be disappointed. I guess I expected a little more and was, therefore, slightly disappointed.
One thing I will say that I absolutely loved about this book is that we get to catch up with Logan and Holly and Chase and Amanda from her previous two books. I truly enjoyed the reappearance of those characters.
Bottom line -- I may have been a little disappointed in this story, but it won't stop me from reading her next book.
I loved this book, it was a cute and sweet read while looking at the downsides of being a professional sports star. I loved the new set of characters and the fact that we did get to revisit the old characters from previous books and get a wedding and baby out of it. I enjoyed how the book was set, the first 26% of the book was Tyson the early years. Both Tyson and Dani were very likeable characters and I enjoyed Marcus to.
What I wasn't such a fan of was the fact that we didn't get to see a lot of Dani and Tyson and their relationship rebuilding, it sort of went from zero to ninety very fast and then from ninety to one hundred was a little slower but I still wanted to see more. I would have also loved to see more of Tyson and Brendon together as well but hopefully in her next book we may get to see more of Dani and Tyson.
I liked the book until I read "Mommy, Mommy, Mommy." I loathe secret baby books. Little redeems them for me. This ended up a skim read after the son was introduced.
Ok, so, I have a confession. I got this author mixed up with Janet Evanovich. I have a bunch of Janet's books in her series, the name of which had escaped me, and which I hadn't started reading yet, and when I saw this book offered up in a BookCrossing friend's post on FB, I thought it sounded good and would be a good introduction to Ms. Evanovich. It wasn't until I finished this book that I suddenly remembered her series was Stephanie Plum. And then I thought, wait, she named her main character after herself? And then I suddenly remembered that author is Janet, not Stephanie!
But I am sooooo glad I made that mistake because I LOVED this book! I was expecting light fluffy romance, which would've been great, I'm always down with that. I was not expecting to be 70 or so pages into the book and so far it was all about the hero battling his alcoholic demons. And the heroine nowhere in sight. But I zipped through half the book on a Saturday afternoon, and then last night I was up way too late finishing it. Yes, it was that good!
I'm often a little leery of secret baby plots. To empathize with the heroine there has to be really compelling motivation for her to keep the dad in the dark, and Ms. Evanovich pulled that off wonderfully here. I was completely on board with Dani's reasons, and understood completely why it took her so long to come clean. And I loved Tyson for sure.
I was excited to learn that two of the other couples in this book have already had their own books! I NEED them!
The Total Package. An apt title. Stephanie Evanovich has a new fan!
2nd reading I have now both read the physical copy and listened to this book on audio, and I must say that for this one I loved the audio.
Tyson is/was a star football player; however, he succumbed to alcoholism and pills and became an addict. This is sadly too realistic of today's athletes, high school, college, and pros. He meets a woman who helps him in college and they fall for each other. Her name is Dani .
I love sports romance novels a lot. Oftentimes they do center around an athlete who gets a bad injury and usually threatens his career. I won't say what happens to Tyson, but injuries come in many different forms.
I am pretty sure this book is the first book of Stephanie Evanovich's that I've read and I'll definitely read more of her now. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and thought they were realistic and believable.
This included a trope that I can’t stand: a secret baby. Tyson and Dani slept together once, she got pregnant, and she doesn’t tell Tyson until their son is 5 years old (and we’re almost at the end of the book).
Also, Tyson was such a douche. Explain to me how, when he met Dani years later, he didn’t even recognize who she was and tried to creepy hit on her?!
On top of it all, his addiction just felt like a meaningless plot device that never got explored at all outside of oh hey he went to rehab and magically is sober now. This book was such a disappointment.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
After reading this book I’m definitely a fan of this authors work and plan to read more of her books in the future. I am huge fan of football and I enjoyed how this story developed throughout the book. The characters were multifaceted and fascinating. I really appreciate when an author that is not afraid to give readers characters with realistic struggles. The characters deal with some heavy issues that felt realistic. I really felt like the author made it so the insecurities and secrets, addiction, and the struggle to stay sober and drug free feel believable.
Dani was Tyson’s tutor in college, she had a secret crush on him but he never even noticed her. Years later, Tyson and Dani’s paths cross again but Tyson is no longer the golden boy. He is at the lowest point of his life. He is addicted to drugs and is about to lose his spot on his team. He’s also plagued by numerous sexual scandals. Despite all the years that have past and all the speculation surrounding Tyson, Dani believes that she can help him. She honestly believes that by sleeping with Tyson, by giving him a piece of her she change him. Well, that does not happen folks, what happen is Dani’s worst fears. She becomes another one of Tyson many victims.
We get to see Tyson during his very difficult, grueling recovery process. The author left nothing out about what happens to someone when they are sobering up. She really gives it to us straight in this so we have a real account on what happens. While we see him hit rock bottom we also see him slowly claw his way out. He starts to take back his life and make his way back to his former self and his football team. I really enjoyed this part of the book, I thought watching this man go through this struggle was vital to this story. In order to appreciate the man he is today, we needed to see what he had to endure.
When Tyson and Dani cross paths once again, she is skeptical of Tyson’s new found reformed status and I don’t blame her considering their very turbulent past. What hurts her most is Tyson does not remember her or the night they shared. I really loved seeing them reconnect. Their second chance at love was so refreshing. It was nice, sweet and I really loved the slow buildup. Dani was not ready to trust Tyson with her heart again and Tyson is afraid of the pressure that a relationship brings. What Tyson doesn’t know is Dani is hiding a big secret, one that might test his sobriety. Can Tyson and Dani find love the second time around? Will Dani’s secret erase Tyson’s 4 years of sobriety? This is definitely worth picking up and reading.
As expected after reading her previous novels, Stephanie Evanovich delivers when it comes to wit, snark, humor, and dialogue. The delectable steamy scenes are an added bonus!
I'll admit that from the synopsis, I wasn't sure where this story was going to lead. However, it went in some fun and interesting directions with a few twists. Both Dani and Tyson are likable and I enjoyed reading their perspectives. I also enjoyed seeing the characters from her previous novels and finding out what they've been up to. (Warning...if you haven't read the first two, there are some spoilers. Having said that, Big Girl Panties contained spoilers for The Sweet Spot, which came out afterward, and I still enjoyed that book too. So don't miss out on those two if you've read this one first.) And even though I am not a football person, reading this novel made me slightly more interested in the sport and all that goes along with it.
I'm still not a fan of mixing narratives within a section (having one person's thoughts blend into the other person's thoughts) instead of separating them out. I have gotten used to it being part of Stephanie's style, but it still is confusing. Aside from that, some parts of the story felt like they jumped around a bit or were disjointed at times. There was a cool idea toward the beginning that I would have liked to see played with more, but it ended up getting dropped.
Overall, The Total Package was a fun and easygoing beach read, but be prepared to blush if you read it in public.
For the record, Stephanie Evanovich is a new-to-me-author and I really enjoyed this book, so I would definitely add her to my authors-to-watch-for list. If you are in the mood for a fun, quick romance novel, then you'll really enjoy this one. Honestly, I managed to finish this book in one setting because it's only 256 pages but it reads like a 150 page book. You'll fly through this story.
So we start with Tyson Palmer, presumably at one of his lowest points, basically losing his lucrative football career to drugs and alcohol, and his alma mater doesn't even want to be associated with him. Enter Ella (later known as Dani), who was his tutor in college, and we have a not-so-steamy night that he doesn't totally remember but she kind of regrets. I mean, she was clearly in love with him but she certainly thought maybe she wouldn't be a bang and leave type of girl, but that's what happens to her.
Cue intense rehab, training, and hard work to rebuild his career and become successful again, Tyson worked hard to get to that point. Dani, now with a four year old child (yes, it's Tyson's, you know where this will go), is trying to build a career as a sports correspondent and she finds herself with a too-good-to-turn-down offer which puts her squarely in the daily presence of Tyson again.
If you are an avid reader of romance novels, you know how this story line will finish out because it really does follow basically the same route as all of the others. What is a little bit different in this story is I didn't care for Ella/Dani, but I really liked Tyson. I felt his was so sincere and really trying to do good things and stay on a positive path whereas Ella/Dani.. meh. She's just refusing to believe that a person like him could change for the better and be sincere about it. But overall? It was fun read compared to the last few books I've read with a heavy story line, so this was definitely a welcomed change. I think if you are looking for a romance novel unlike anything you read, you might be disappointed. If you want something solid with a great guy at the center of it and a comeback story, then this is definitely something you are going to enjoy. I'd have to give this a solid 4/5 stars and I would definitely read more from Stephanie Evanovich.
What a lovely surprise, I won this copy from WmMorrow Books. Had to start reading right away. I am normally a murder who dun it, type person, and love books that also make me laugh, so I don't normally read a Romance book. Story, nice girl from a good loving close Italian family tutors a football athlete, named Tyson. He goes onto the big league, however, his father pulls him into a bad life, he ends up ruining his career with drugs, alcohol and a huge sex scandal. He has reached the bottom. He turns up to a college reunion, and meets his prior tutor, nice girl, who he calls Ella. She tries to help him. Loosing her virginity that night, he treats her badly and walks out on her. This guy, is blessed, as a owner of a football team in Texas takes an interest in him. He places him in rehab and changes his life. Tyson becomes a Star again. In the meanwhile Ella (nickname) changes her name and becomes a professional t.v. sports interviewer. Ella is now a beauty and he does not recognize her. Sparks fly, but Ella has an ace up her sleeve! Love conquers all, but not without a big stumbling block and boulders on the way. I enjoyed reading this book.
I loved this book! It was light, yet poignant, humorous and wholly entertaining. I loved Stephanie Evanovich's two prior books (even more than those by her more famous cousin-by-marriage), Big Girl Panties and The Sweet Spot, and was delighted to see characters from those books appear here. Ms. Evanovich has a gift for writing male banter especially. The passages with banter between the characters were often laugh-out-loud funny. You do not have to have read the earlier books to follow this one, but all three are worth the read. Brava, Ms. Evanovich. Touchdown!!
I listened to this as an audiobook (during my commute to/from work) and Katie Schorr's narration made it even more enjoyable. Her voices and, particularly, Southern twang for the applicable characters brought them to life.
