How to Romance a Rake (Ugly Ducklings #2)

This didn't work for me for several reasons:
1) Hero and heroine spend very little time together. They start out getting along, already crushing on each other. Each has a big bad secret they're hiding until the very end, even though both are fairly obvious and, given the build-up, a little disappointing. Although, in all fairness, you have to give the author credit for having a heroine with a (view spoiler)
2) Too much drama. There were kidnappings, an abandoned child, a mother from hell, a mystery painter, two (!!!) murderers, the big bad secrets... It was all a little too much for me. I would've loved to spend more time watching hero and heroine get to know each other.
3) The title. Say what you will about the hero, but he is sweet, and kind, and adorable, and tries very very hard to make sure his reputation is spotless (his dad was nicknamed "Devil Deveril", all ties in with the Big Bad Secret...). Also, she does absolutely no romancing. None.

"Wow. Worst. Mother. Ever. "I do not mean to be unkind, my dear, truly I don't. But husbands require certain.. duties of their wives. Duties that require a certain degree of.. physicality. I simply do not believe your injury would slow you to participate in such activities. At least not with the regularity that a young man would require. An older husband would be much more willing to overlook your frailty.""

"Those are a LOT of subplots... Two possible abductions are being investigated, someone stole the heroine's compositions, there's a mystery painter who's all the rage, the mother from hell is plotting sth nefarious with what will no doubt turn out to be a villain, the hero fears to have found an illegitimate child of his uncle's, heroine has a big bad shameful secret... When will all this drama end?"

"I'm still trying to figure out why this is called how to romance a RAKE. This perfectly adorable, sweet, and genuinely nice man who has done everything to make sure no one has anything bad to say about him? Also, she does literally NO romancing. He likes her from the very first page on and does all the romancing! Also, while I'm ranting, inconsistent big bad secret. I'm not very happy :("

The lead couple spending little time together is a no go for me. I have a 10% rule: if the lead characters have not had some interactions with each other by 10%, I am abandoning ship.

Great review. Yeeaaah not my type. I need more H/h interaction than that and I HATE a lot of Drama. I barely like a little drama, so with all that going on, how will I believe that they "fell in love". So imma pass.
Thanks :)
Well. They did talk. But it was totally obvious from page 1 that they both already really liked each other. And they were both so perfect, accepting the others big bad secret without hesitation, I was really really bored. And what with two sets of parents from hell, you'd think they'd gave lots to bond over. I don't know, I just didn't see a lot of development.
And oh the drama... Seriously, why there had to be two crazy killers on the lose, two sets of parents from hell, people being abducted left and right, I don't know...

I tried her debut (the first one in this series, IIRC) some years ago and found it just so-so. Not sure I'll give her books another chance, maybe a newer series but surely not this one.
