[written in my book lover's journal; possibly a couple months after reading it]
Aghast that people acclaim Van Vogt at all, in any way, even a little bit. "Jommy"?! for fvck's sake "Vee Vee," think of something that actually smacks of a futurity -- the 1950s in 2100 and to write an entire book as if not ONE of the true Slans would vary from all others and not ONE human would, that implies that they can NOT. This opinion of sentient beings annoys me more than any other i can think of presently.
[10 years later: i wish i'd never wasted the hours on this book, and wish i could recoup the minutes it took to write (originally) and type (now) these comments about it...but if just ONE person decides NOT to read this book because of my review, then i've done good by the world. Trust me, you ain't missin nothin if you never read it.]

Christ! You need a happy pill. Unless your heated antipathy is really just a cunning blind to distract us from the shocking truth that YOU are Slan! Shake out your tendrils, sweetheart, let's have a GOOD look at em!
The god damn book was serialized in 1940, and published in hardcover 1946... Give it a break Jeff. Sheesh. You try writing futuristic science fiction that will last the test of time 75 years after it is written, see how the hell that goes for you! What, is it too old for you? well ^% off and go read something modern if you don't like futuristic books of the 1940's... because unless you can pull your head of of your ass and realize how old this is... my grandmother wasn't even born till 5 years AFTER 1940's serialization... you will never appreciate great books... Like you, too many people think of old books in contemporary context, rather them TEMPORAL CONTEXT... Maybe books from that time period aren't your thing... so be it... doesn't make this a bad book though, just because you don't like how unbelievable the future is... as written 75 &%^&ing years ago...
JonSnow, do you have any thoughts on what i missed or ways i could've or should've enjoyed this book?
I wish I'd read your review instead of this book.
