Maybe in Another Life

I breezed through Maybe in Another Life and really liked it! Told in dual timelines, this is the story of 29 year old Hannah, who has floated from job to job in various cities throughout the U.S., and now returns home to Los Angeles after a bad breakup, still unsure of what she wants to do with her life. The story starts with Hannah’s first night out back in LA, where 2 different people (her best friend, Gabby, and her ex-boyfriend, Ethan) offer her a ride home, and then the book splits into the dual storylines, showing how just one decision can change everything.
I enjoyed both storylines equally. It was interesting to see how some of the same things ultimately evolved (but came about differently), and also interesting to see how the characters’ interactions varied in each storyline. I enjoyed Hannah’s friendship with Gabby in both parallels. The first few chapters of the book felt fairly familiar - This could’ve easily been my college girlfriends and me (minus: one very poor decision) in our social routine.
I also just really enjoyed the premise of Maybe in Another Life. Who hasn’t, at least on occasion, wondered “What if...?” about some decision they made. It doesn’t always need to be a paramount, life changing decision, but then again, we don’t always realize when we are making one of those.
When you sit there and wish things had happened differently, you can’t just wish away the bad stuff. You have to think about all the good stuff you might lose, too. Better to just stay in the now and focus on what you can do better in the future.”
I’m now 3/3 with TJR reads and still looking forward to more!

I started this right after I read Evelyn Hugo (my first TJR read) and I stopped after about 100 pages in. Maybe I will revisit now...

Wonderful review, Brandice ;) I love this author but have yet to get to this book. So glad to see you really enjoyed!! 😊
This sounds strikingly identical to the film ‘Sliding Doors’ starring Gwyneth Paltrow but in book form. Like most humans, I too wonder the great “what ifs?” Still, I’m going to pass on this.
Excellent review! It sounds really interesting and something I would enjoy. I read 2 of her books and really liked them, will add this one! Thanks Brandice :)
I read this one years ago...when I was just commenting on books on Goodreads, and not yet reviewing them...and I enjoyed it as well. In fact, I prefer her earlier work, to her most recent work! Glad you enjoyed this!
Great review, Brandice! I loved Evelyn Hugo, so I'm glad to hear TJR's other books are awesome too. I have this one on my TBR and I'm looking forward to reading it even more now. :)
