When I tell you I cried through half of this novella I am not exaggerating. You most definitely need tissues and waterproof mascara while reading this one, but it was so fantastic! I’ve always loved Queen Lenora and Edward, as well as Nicholas and Henry. This novella had so many important moments in their lives that they just touch on in the books. We get them in detail, as well as getting to actually ‘meet’ Nicholas and Henry’s parents. It was a tearjerker in some ways, but it left my heart feeling full. Couples like Lenora and Edward will make you believe true love exists!

I'm not exaggerating it but I literally cried during the whole book. Ugh I don't know why this novella made me so emotional but it was really bittersweet to go back to these characters. 😪

Wow, what a perfectly wonderful read!! As a fan of the Royally Series, these stories brought me right back to Wessco and the Royal Family. The stories were mostly from Queen Lenore and Prince Edward’s perspective and they gave insight to parts of the stories that we, as readers, knew but didn’t know all the details. And, with this companion novella, we got all the beautiful, sweet, loving, bittersweet and emotional details that brought smiles as well as tears.Thank you Emma Chase for giving me these incredibly wonderful stories to bring back memories and make me love these characters even more.

Royally Remembered is not a standalone–it is a companion novella meant to be read after Royally Screwed, Royally Matched, Royally Endowed, and Royally Yours.

‘I look up into her face – my beautiful little wife, my queen, the love of my entire existence.'

**wipes buckets of tears off our Kindles** Emma Chase! What have you done to us? We’re sitting here in a flood of tears, after being moved from the first to the last page of this beautiful and highly emotional companion novella that EVERY fan of this series MUST READ! It’s an ESSENTIAL read, and it’s one you need to prepare your hearts for as we get a look behind the curtain of every heartbreaking moment that made the Royal Family of Wessco the compassionate, sweet, funny, and warm people we’ve come to know and love throughout the series.

“It’s so hard, Lenora,” I whisper into her neck, my face wet with grief.
“It’s so very hard.”
“I know,” she says. “But we have each other.”
“We do.”
“And we’ll see it through, “she swears. “You and I, together. As we always have.”

We love nothing more than to look behind the scenes of our favourite shows/movies, and Royally Remembered was the reading equivalent of that as Emma Chase stripped back some of the precious moments touched on in previous books, showing us how certain events unfolded.

“The only reason I know how to love, the only reason there is joy in my life. The only reason I was able to give love and joy to their lives…is because of you.”

We’ve devoured, fallen in love with, and rejoiced while reading every single book in this wonderful series (Netflix if you’re listening……YOU NEED TO BRING THIS STORY TO LIFE!), but this book was like a missing thread, a piece of the tapestry woven into the Royally Series, and we LOVED IT! The love between Prince Edward and Queen Lenora…. WOW! What strength, devotion, and pure soulmate LOVE!

‘He made me Queen…before they ever put that crown on my head.’

Queen Lenora’s loss and pain broke us. This stoic yet vulnerable and loving woman has truly lived a wonderful life. A life that’s brought her immeasurable love as well as deep soul aching loss. Getting this insight into the woman who was Queen Lenora, showed us what a magnificent woman she was!

‘I should understand these things by now. Life and loss. I have been taught those lessons well. But tragedy always comes as a shock – a devastation that rents the soul.’

We don’t know how to say goodbye to these characters that have taken up such a huge space in our hearts. We will never tire of reading about them and will forever look forward to revisiting them. Now, if Emma Chase ever feels the desire to write the next generation, we’re here for it! The little glimpse of them in the Royally Raised short story whet our appetites for more!

Well this was just absolutely perfect! The royal Wessco family is so dear to me and this companion novella was just heartbreakingly beautiful. We are reminded of the struggles Queen Lenora and Prince Edward had to face while building their legacy. So many tears were shed for their tragic losses but we get a beautiful ending.

5 heartbreakingly bittersweet stars

I am a mad fan of Emma Chase, and the Royally series is one of my all-time faves, so of course I was so excited to dive into this collection of bonus scenes from the series. I was not ready.

The scenes are predominantly from Lenore and Edward’s perspective, beginning after Royally Yours and mostly taking place before Royally Screwed - with a couple of scenes after. And, to be completely honest, it’s all the scenes from the series that I didn’t want to see, because oh my God, my heart! We know these characters have been through difficult times, and here they are laid out in all of their devastation, perfectly described by Chase in her Author’s note:

“…moments that are alluded to but not shown on the page … these moments that played such an integral part in shaping these characters into who they ultimately became.”

As a romcom writer, I’ve never seen this side of Emma Chase, but she can certainly bring the feels! This wasn’t just a read where tears were delicately falling down my face, I freaking ugly cried – sobbing, hiccupping breaths and all. It hurt so bad, but despite the heartache, seeing the love between the family and how the characters pick themselves up and carry on despite all they go through is really special.

There are a couple of light moments - any moment with Edward and Lenore together and seeing all that they mean to each other is an absolute win, and I did enjoy seeing young Nicholas and Henry.

Dear God, my grandparents are flirting with each other. This is what hell must be like.

I wouldn’t say it’s a must-read for the series, but fans will want it - just be prepared, because if you’re hoping for the light-hearted, laugh-out-loud hilarity of the other books of the series, this is definitely not that book. But it’s absolutely beautifully written, full of emotion, and shows us more of what builds these amazing characters.  And ultimately, it does finish well - I just need to go and reread all of the other books now to see all of those happy moments again.

5 stars (just because of how much I love these characters, and how beautifully these scenes are written - not factoring in the emotional wreck I was when I finished it).

With this novella, I loved Queen Lenora even more. She is often misunderstood yet she’s a loving wife, mother and grandmother to the royal family. I adore her so much it made me emotional. It was nice seeing the rest of the characters of Royally series. I miss them a lot. 😭💖 It’s a bittersweet ending.

Royally Remembered is a great companion to the Royally series. It’s been awhile since I last spent time with the Wessco Royal Family, and while I think this novella would best be enjoyed if read right after the previous books, I still liked it. In fact, it made me want to go back and re-read the series.

I’d forgotten how cold Queen Lenora can appear. This book adds some perspective to her character. It gives us a better understanding of her hard facade and shows just how deeply she cares for her family. Told from various points of view, the novella highlights crucial turning points in Lenora’s life. Her husband, Edward, and her grandsons, Nicholas and Henry, are heavily featured. We also get to meet Nicolas’s and Henry’s parents. Unlike some of the previous books, this is not a rom com. Warmth and poignancy radiate throughout Royally Remembered, making it a touching tale.

Sobbing. I sobbed through this whole book. These short little stories packed such a huge punch and helped us fill in the gaps with Lenora and Edward. Their love transcends. I’m crying again. I didn’t know how much I needed this in my life.

I don't know what to say ... This was ... fantastic? Deliriously poignant? Perfect windows into key moments in all their lives? A #cryfest to beat ALL? It was all of those things and just so much more.

I don't know how Emma manages it every time, but my heart soared and broke and back again at every turn and it was magnificent. This is only a couple of hours, but it felt like a lifetime of comfort spent with this amazing family! I am just seconds away from pushing all my commitments aside and starting to binge-listen from the very beginning.

Well done to both the narrators and Emma! Thank you!

Beautifully written. Bittersweet. Sad. Those are the words I would use to describe this novella of scenes from Lenora, Edward, Thomas, Calista, Nicholas, and Henry's lives. Much of this novella was in Lenora and Edward's POVs. I got to celebrate their joys and also experience some of the hardest things they went through together. It was fun to get more moments with them, but it was truly bittersweet. I also loved getting just a little of Thomas and Calista. Also, some great moments with Nicholas and Henry. I don't know what else to say about this one except that it left me missing all of these characters and wanting to revisit some of their happier times together.

Oh how I cried. Just a beautifully heartbreaking remembrance of the Royals of Wessco. The tears were of sad due to the losses and how the Queen pushed through her sorrow and then tears were of happy because of how the story goes. Absolutely love this series and wish it could go on and on and on.

I thought I knew what to expect, I thought I was prepared, but I don't think anything could have prepared me for the beauty and emotion this book was filled with. Filled me with. The short stories in Royally Remembered are a stunning tribute to Lenora and Edward, their life, legacy, and love. It was truly incredible.

If you are a fan of the Royally series, then this companion novella is a must-read. I loved seeing Edward and Lenora again, meeting Thomas and Calista, and watching Nicholas and Henry grow into the men they came to be. It was a beautiful love story filled with so much heart and soul, heartbreak and love. I cried. I totally cried. Every story got to me. The strength they all have as a family is amazing. I always liked Queen Lenora, and then when her story came about in Royally Yours, I loved her. And now, learning even more about her and how she always held her head up high, I find her inspiring. The relationship she and Edward had is one for the ages and I loved seeing more of that unbreakable bond through the good times and bad.

This was a fast read chalked full of emotion and love. I loved the descriptions and details and the meaningful and poignant conversations and dialogue. These are stories I didn't know I needed but I am so glad I got them. Truth be told, a part of me didn't want to read this because I didn't want to say goodbye but it was one heck of a goodbye that's not to be missed. Thank you, Emma chase. “Forever and always.”

4.5 stars. The Royally series comes to a regal close with this novella that leaves a legacy footprint for Queen Lenora and her family. Full of short, pivotal and heart melting scenes that are a mixture of joyous, sweet, sentimental, sexy and heartbreaking, this is a must read for any fan of the series. I loved getting more of Lenora’s vulnerable and raw side, watching her rise after every tragedy despite the internal devastation. She may be royalty, but she has a very human heart inside that leaves a mark on everyone who knows her. Not to mention there’s more of Edward, the man who keeps her and his family grounded. I’m so glad Emma Chase wrote this because it’s like she knew the readers needed these never-seen-before critical scenes that set the stage for who these characters would develop into.

A story so emotional that it was impossible not to cry in its saddest moments. I loved learning those details that were so much talked about, but never revealed as they actually happened.

I really liked how the author showed us an unappealing personality of Queen Lenora in her early books to allow us to see in the later ones the real woman behind the power.

The main character of this book is Edward whom not even death could keep away from her love. In life she was his motor and strength, behind that cold and hard exterior, teaching him kindness and compassion, and later his company and comfort in every moment of loneliness. He taught her to soften those edges that characterized her and to appreciate her family, even if it was hard for her to show it.

Oh my heart. It is hard to explain how I feel about this collection of stories without spoilers. In the author's note, she mentions that she has thought about how certain pivotal moments played out for the Pembrook family. They have had a lot of joy and heartbreak over the years, but most of that happened outside of the scope of the books themselves. This collection lets us witness those moments as the characters involved lived them. I cried through a lot of it, but I was also happy because I know how everything will work out in the end. If you love this family like I do, then you will absolutely find this collection worth your time. It is a lovely addition to a beautiful series, and I am so happy to have it.

Royally Remembered by Emma Chase
A Royally Series Companion Novella. Does Not Stand Alone.
4.5 Stars

affiliate links

Royally Remembered by Emma Chase is a royally series companion novella - a collection of short stories that take place before, during, and after the four full-length books (Royally Screwed, Royally Matched, Royally Endowed, and Royally Yours).

I started to read this on the way out to L.A. for Passioncon because Emma was there (They optioned Royally Screwed) and I wanted to have read her latest. But I had to put it down mid-flight because I was bawling my eyes out on the plane! I didn’t think I would remember enough details from the series to enjoy this companion novella, but OMG, every short story just hit me right in the feels and reminded me why I loved this series so much.

quote from Royally Remembered

Most of the stories are about Queen Lenora and Edward, and we get to see much more of the softer, vulnerable side of the queen.
“Why do I have to stay? Why do I have to endure and grieve when everyone else gets to go? Death is easier . . . it’s the living that’s so very hard.”

I have loved this series from the beginning. If you have as well, Royally Remembered is a MUST READ. It’s a glimpse at some of the behind-the-scenes moments that shaped the stories.
“When it comes time for you to marry, you must choose a good, arrogant man.” “Arrogant?” “Yes. A man who is so confident in himself and who loves you so completely, he’ll be perfectly happy to stand in your shadow . . . to watch you shine. Never settle for anything less.”

While it was an AMAZING read for lovers of the series, it was missing the light and fun moments Emma Chase is known for, it was purely emotional wreckage, except maybe one or two things.
“Dear God, my grandparents are flirting with each other. This is what hell must be like.”

Likes:

•I loved visiting the royal family again.
•It feels like these moments were so important to the series.
•Made me want to go back and start all over.
•Getting more insight into the woman behind the stoic Queen Lenora felt like a gift.

Dislikes:

•It needed more of Emma’s trademark funny to balance out the torrent of emotion.

The Down & Dirty:
Royally Remembered by Emma Chase does not stand alone. It’s meant to be read after reading the entire Royally Series, especially Royally Yours. These short stories brought me right back into the series despite being 3-4 years since I read it last. It was also one of the most emotional books I read this year. I cried BUCKETS. It was heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time and it made it even harder to say goodbye to these characters again. The only thing missing was more of Emma Chase’s humor, which is what I love most about her writing. It would have helped to balance out the emotions that Royally Remembered brought out.

"—Ahora solo somos nosotros tres. Pero vamos a estar bien. Me aseguraré de ello".

"—Entonces, ¿qué eres?

La miro a los ojos, mi voz ferviente con la simple verdad innegable.

—Soy tu esposo. Te prometí que nunca te dejaría, y siempre, siempre, cumplo mis promesas".
