U.K. title The Perfect Parents

3.5 rounded up

Two weeks ago Marcia and Travis Thorpe are made an offer of a lifetime, what will the answer be? Grace Cooper waits with bated breath. The answer is yes, Grace is to be the couples surrogate. Why is Grace prepared to do this for nothing? Is she making a huge mistake as her best friend Sydney believes? Are the Thorpes’ the perfect parents?

This psychological domestic drama has a good premise with the surrogacy gift and the author gets inside Graces head and also gives us insight into the future parents feelings. Via the backstory from 2013 we learn the sad truth of her motivation and see that tragedy dogs her. The surrogacy issue is done well, looking at both sides.

As the storyline builds you cannot work some things out. All the Thorpes kind or suffocating, attentive or claustrophobic? It starts to become very creepy with tension and dread building. Parts are intense and you can’t quite work out what’s going on with some potential red herrings that throw you off the scent!

Some of the characterisation is good but some of them feel a bit stereotypical or one dimensional though the main ones are done well. To me, the first 75% of the book is the best part as it become somewhat melodramatic as it weaves its way to the end although some bits are exciting. I do enjoy that warning shot across the bows at the end!

Overall though, this is an entertaining easy read and just what I need!

With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Bookouture for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.

Giving away my baby is the hardest decision I have ever had to make. But when I move into the Thorpe's stunning home so they can support me through my pregnancy, it seems like they are everything I could have hoped for. But before long, I begin to wonder if something is very wrong with the Thorpe's. I try to ignore how Travis lets his hand linger on mine a little too long, and how Marcia comes to check on me during the night. But when a threatening note turns up outside my door and I begin to unravel the Thorpe's secrets, I realise I might not make it out of here alive.

This is a captivating domestic suspense thriller with a creepy feel to it. Grace agrees to be a surrogate for wealthy couple Marcia and Travis Thorpe. We learn why Grace wanted to be a surrogate which is told in flashbacks. Marcia and Travis were a weird couple who tried to rule Grace's life while she lived with them. There's twist and turns throughout. The characters are well developed. I was pulled in after I had read a couple of chapters. This is quite a sad and selfless story that's told from grace's point of view. The epilogue has ;eft me wondering if there will be a follow on book as we were left with a bit of a cliffhanger.

I would like to thank #Netgalley #Bookouture and the author #LGDavis for my ARC of #PerfectParents in exchange for an honest review.

Loved the book! Devoured it within a day!

I enjoyed the complex main character and other characters seemed to be well fleshed out too.

I kept guessing the twist, but it was something I did it quite see coming, which is refreshing.

Comparing to other recent books I’ve just read, this seemed to be quite down to earth and realistic plot, however it by no means was boring! Quite the opposite, as I clearly could not put the book down.

I really appreciated the parcelled out “back story” of the main character and how it has shaped her and her mental health.

Also enjoyed the writing, it reads well and flows nicely.

I’d definitely like to read more books by the author as this was my first one from L. G. Davis.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

Moving into the home of Marcia and Travis Thorpe seems like a sound decision for Grace, as she has agreed to become a surrogate so that they can fulfill their wish to become parents. This was not an easy decision for Grace to make, especially as she suffered a real tragedy years before. In fact, this book is broken up into the past and present, thus showing how she was forever devastated by a painful loss. Grace is hoping to assuage the guilt she feels from that loss by the actions she is taking now.

Especially considering such a difficult loss proves contrary to her decision to become a surrogate. Grace has to not only bury her pain deeply, but she must stay present enough to give her baby away once it is born. This is further complicated by unusual experiences she us suddenly facing, some of which are terrifying. Meanwhile, Grace is at a crossroad in her life. All she has left is a relationship with best friend Sydney, who has quite a busy life. Feeling completely alone, Grace is forced to deal with the strange relationship she has with the Thorpes. Meanwhile, Grace meets Clayton at a local coffee shop, and this proves to be a true blessing, even if it is unclear to her at the start.

Perfect Parents was a thrill ride from start to finish. This story had some surprising twists and turns, which definitely kept me guessing. It also had some emotional drama, especially as it dealt with infertility and loss, thus bringing in a huge measure of sadness. As this story definitely had its ups and downs I was more than pleased by the conclusion.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

This was a pretty emotional story. Really brings out the emotional feelings that pregnancy or lack of brings out in people. It really was just ‘ok’ until about 75% of the way thru the book, the last 25% of the book was when it really got interesting!
My favorite character was Marigold, of coarse. Clayton wasn’t too bad neither.
Takes place in a very little town in Florida. Brings out the worse for people who tend to live in a small town, rumor mills as they are and jealousy of the rich folks in town.

one or two problems with this book

I am tempted to suggest that the author doesn’t know much about pregnancy. The reason is, if you have panic attacks your blood pressure rises and that’s not good for an unborn child and yet Grace is always having them. The plot’s not too bad if kind of predictable. There’s too much of the usual boring I say, he says, she says which is just lazy writing but nothing I might state here will change that but I’ll keep on doing it anyway. After all, nobody twists anybody’s arm up anybody’s back and makes them read my comments do they? Otherwise yes, it killed a few hours and it’s certainly creepy. I’d suggest try it, see what you think. I don’t think I’d read anything else by this author mind. I don’t much like the style.

Grace is moving into the home of Marcia and Travis Thorpe, as she is going to become their surrogate, so they can fulfil their wishes to become parents.

The Thorpe's seem like the perfect couple but Grace begins to feel that they are overbearing and watching her every move. When a threatening note turns up outside her door she begins to unravel the Thorpe's secrets.

A great domestic thriller with plenty of twists and turns throughout.

I am excited to be taking part in the #BooksOnTour #BlogTour for L.G. Davis' tense domestic suspense tale PERFECT PARENTS (formerly known as "The Surrogate's Gift" ).

This is just the second book I've read by L.G. Davis and I quite like her easy style of domestic suspense. It doesn't matter if they are sometimes predictable as it's the thrill of the ride I enjoy most. And yet while you may think what direction the story is going in BAM! then you are hit with a twist that changes everything. That's kind of how it was with PERFECT PARENTS. I thought I knew in which direction it was headed...and I was partly right. But it was the driver that fooled me.

The story opens with an explosive prologue that leaves the reader wondering in what direction we are going with this...and then we meet Grace. She's a woman who feels she needs to make amends for the mistakes of her past and the losses which she now bears. It's her heartache and her guilt which leads her to a momentous decision - to become a surrogate. She has just one condition - they must be happy and able to provide the child with a stable environment.

After relentless searching, Grace decides the lucky couple will be Marcia and Travis Thorpe after befriending Marcia in an online forum then meeting her and thus making her decision. The Thorpes have been married for several years but remain childless whilst it is Marcia's greatest wish to become a mother. And Grace, through selfless divinity, wants to give them that gift.

But why? That is the question the reader asks themselves throughout half of the book. It's not until we get about halfway through that the reason becomes clear and then we understand, but Grace declines any monetary compensation when she clearly has barely a cent to her name. She says she isn't doing it for the money so why is she? And then there are the Thorpes, when after Grace is successfully declared pregnant, offer their guesthouse on the grounds of their vast property for the duration of the pregnancy. This solves numerous problems Grace has and she gratefully accepts. But...are the Thorpes as kind as they seem?

It soon becomes clear Grace feels she has made an error of judgement but it's too late as she has no place to return to - no house, no money and no one to go to (except for Sydney who already has a busy home/family life). She feels stifled with no room to breathe as the Thorpes continually pop up offering platitudes, help and annoyingly touching her pregnant belly. Invasion of personal space MUCH! It doesn't matter that the space belongs to the Thorpes, it is Grace's for the duration.

And then she meets Clayton, who runs the local coffee shop in he small town. Without wanting to, Grace lets her guard down with him and for the first time in a long time, is able to be herself. Throughout the ensuing months, he becomes her saving grace (pun intended).

The twist, when it comes, is unexpected, twisted and delicious. It is so disturbing and paranoid and completely senseless but it is so good. I said the story doesn't have to brilliant or unpredictable...it just have to give me a good ride for the duration...and it did. And then, that ending. Those final words... A clever touch. Leave readers guessing but looking over their shoulders.

Despite my thorough enjoyment of this twisted little tale, there was a couple of random things that just came out of left field which was just senseless with no real explanation. Really, if you don't want know the gender of the baby, why would you paint the exterior of your house pink? And purchase various items in hues of pink. And the behaviour of the Thorpes throughout was completely suspect. They were truly a weird couple, I wonder why Grace didn't pick up on that before making her lifechanging decision. And despite me feeling as though they were suspect, what did the rest of the town have against them? It seemed everyone spoke in whispers about Grace being their surrogate and they didn't seem to agree with the whole idea. Why? That was never really explained.

By the end of the book, although I enjoyed the ride I was taken on, the whole thing just felt so incredibly sad. It's not a thriller, more of a suspense, but it just feels so so sad.

The story unfolds through Grace's narrative throughout in both the past and present, revealing just enough at the right time. And it is just so tragic. And I guess when the truth of her past is revealed, the reader can understand why Grace chose to become a surrogate without ever having being pregnant before. It truly was meant to be a selfless gift and yet its truth is just so incredibly sad.

Although the title has been changed to PERFECT PARENTS, I do feel the previous one "The Surrogate's Gift" is far more apt. Because it is essentially about Grace's gift to a childless couple as well as the weirdness of the so-called "perfect parents".

PERFECT PARENTS is not really what I was expecting, though I wasn't sure what I expected, but it was an enjoyable and addictive read that may be a tad far fetched but a thrilling ride that is deliciously twisted all the same. It doesn't have to make sense nor does it have to believable. It just has to be enjoyable. And it was.

Although I have only read two tales of domestic suspense by L.G. Davis I actually quite like her simple yet complex style. I look forward to reading more from her and expect they will be just as twisted, addictive and even a little far fetched (maybe?). But I don't care. As long as they are entertaining and keep me engaged throughout.

I would like to thank #LGDavis, #NetGalley and #Bookouture for an ARC of #PerfectParents in exchange for an honest review.

Grace Cooper makes the decision to be a surrogate for Marcia and Travis Thorpe. She hoping that this gift to them can help her overcome a past tragedy. The Thorpe's offer to let Grace stay in their home while she is pregnant. During that time, she begins to feel the couple is overbearing. Things start to unravel, and you just don't know who you can trust. You get bits and pieces of the characters pasta, and everyone has secrets to keep hidden. I thought this was a pretty clever read and did not see the twist coming. Definitely kept me on the edge of me seat.

Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for the gifted copy. All opinions are my own.

Grace struggles with her recent past and decisions she made. She feels like she needs to right her wrongs, and to do that, she agrees to be a surrogate for Marcia and Travis Thorpe. They seem like a couple that love each other and have it all... until they don't.
Given her situation, Grace agrees to move into Marcia and Travis' guest house. It's not long before Grace starts to find them overbearing, and strange and scary things start to happen.
This story has a jaw-dropping twist I did not see coming!

What’s the most precious gift a woman could give another woman? Grace, in a clumsy attempt to right what she perceives to be a past wrong, agrees to be a surrogate for the perfect couple. She even moves in with them, but that’s when it begins to go all wrong.
I have been fascinated with surrogacy stories since Baby M back in the 1980s. Marcia and Travis gave off creep vibes galore and what’s the deal, with both Agnes and Beatrice?
If you like to read about complicated, messy situations, this book is the right choice for you. And you’ll discover who gets the baby.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the early copy.

Good read

Enjoyed this book. Some good twists. I thought I had my head set on what was happening but the twist changed everything. Liked the short chapters and how it went back and forth in places.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. ARC provided by Bookouture.

I gave them my baby, but can I trust them? Giving away my child is the hardest decision I have ever had to make. But when I move into the Thorpes’ stunning home so they can support me through the pregnancy, it seems like they are everything I could have hoped for. They cook me delicious, healthy meals and make sure I’m getting the best medical care. They never question my background, or why I am giving them my child.

Keeping my baby safe and making sure they are going to the perfect family means everything to me. But when a threatening note turns up outside my door and I begin to unravel the Thorpes’ secrets, I realise I may not make it out of here alive. After everything I’ve been through, I’m not going to give up without a fight. And I’ll do anything to keep my baby safe.

This is going to be an unpopular opinion since so many liked the book, but the book fell flat for me. The book is written in first persons POV, which I usually love, but I find it very hard to relate to Grace. The book switches between present and past which gets confusing. The plot also progresses very slowly for my taste. I was expecting a thriller. But the whole book felt sad, This wasn't what I was expecting, though I wasn't sure what I expected, but it was enjoyable and addictive but too far fetched. The ending also wasn't something I was left satisfied. It was too rushed and was trying too hard to tie up some loose ends. The potential was there, but the execution was just off for me at the end.

My heart bleeds each and every time when I read stories about people being desperate for a child. Either they cannot conceive and they have to deal with the disappointment each month or something goes wrong during the pregnancy and they have to work their way through one more loss.

Some people give up completely. Others seek help.

Marcia has almost given up hope when she realises angels do exist and one of them is called Grace. They are both determined. Marcia wants to become a mother, Grace wants to give a couple the ultimate gift. Marcie is looking for a selfless person, Grace is looking for the perfect parents. It seems like they have both found what they are looking for.

End of story, right? They all live happily ever after, right? Well, no.

This is already heavy stuff, but you ain’t see nothing yet. Find out some heart breaking backstories.

I wonder whether you will follow in my steps: never suspecting the baddie, being suspicious of the innocent. In my opinion, when an author can achieve this, they have written a wonderful book.

The prologue is a grabbed-me-by-the-throat one. It’s a chapter that is meant to suck you into the story and I will tell you, it worked like a Dyson on me. 😊

I can tell you this: life gave Grace a whole lot of lemons. Will she be able to make lemonade out of them?

I loved this story. There was not a lot that could drag me away from it, but we all have to eat sometimes, don’t we? 😉 5 stars.

Thank you

Oh wow. This book had me feeling all the feels. It kept me on the edge of my seat, turning those pages, I went from happy to sad, to concerned, to ending with tears in my eyes.

Never one for a happy ending to be honest, but when it is perfectly placed, like in the surrogates gift it makes me hella emotional.

This was an incredible journey for all the characters involved and for the reader too. It is filled with twists, and was fairly creepy along the way, but the biggest twist of all is very unexpected.

This is my second time reading an LG David novel and it was brilliant. I will definitely be continuing to add these books to my TBR

This was my second book by author L.G. Davis. I just went and made sure i added the rest of her books to my TBR list. I also requested her next book from netgalley . She most definitely has become one of my favorite psychological thriller authors. From the very first page to the last I was completely engrossed in this story. It is a true psychological thriller with so many jaw-dropping twist in every sense of the word. The twists and turns are completely unexpected and so good. The characters were very well drawn and I felt the same uncertainty ,anxiety, raw emotion, thoughts, and ideas that the characters do. If you love psychological thrillers full of twist then Buy this book! And if you haven’t read her other books GET THEM NOW! After you read this book you’re going to binge read her other books because you will realize she is soon to be one of your very favorite authors. Without a doubt!

Firstly thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC in return for an honest review.
This book captured my interest very early on and I believe it was the character of Grace that kept me turning the pages and unwilling to put it down. We first meet her when she agrees to be a surrogate for Marcia and Travis, they seem a nice enough couple, but from the off there is obviously more to Grace and why she is really doing this, seemingly selfless act. She is a very likeable character, even though at times she annoyed me, especially when the book would go back in time to Graces life before and the reason behind it all became clear. I did enjoy the back in time parts as well, it led the story right up to the point in present time and explained a lot.

I really enjoyed the projection of the plot and wondering were it would go next and rooting for Grace the whole time. The behaviour of Marcia and Travis was weird and so overbearing, I just wanted her to cut ties and run.
I loved the ending, though that end ending!!!! Will there be a sequel or perhaps we the reader are just left to wonder.
A fast paced, captivating read and I highly recommend it.

If you've read enough psychological thriller books, you'll be aware that a book's title typically denotes the complete opposite of what the plot ultimately reveals. The Perfect Parents most definitely illustrates this. I would give this a 3.5 rounded up to a 4.

The primary character, Grace Cooper, aspires to become a surrogate for the obnoxious Marcia and Travis Thorpe, an affluent couple, but things are not as they appear. Grace feels a lot of guilt. That is clearly stated at the start of the story. In flashbacks equally spaced throughout the narrative, the reader gets hints as to why. It keeps the reader guessing until we find out Grace's backstory. The tension builds as the pregnancy progresses while many creepy and inexplicable things begin happening.

However, there were many inconsistencies in this story that made me remove a star. Grace's actions puzzle me. She frequently says one thing while acting very differently. Furthermore, there were a few characters that seemed redundant. Lastly I thought the epilogue with its 'cliffhanger' was unnecessary and didn't fit in with the rest of the book. However, this is still an engaging book and I would read another book by this author.

Slow, bloated and repetitive

The book was fair at best. It was slow. Extremely repetitive with the use of the words tear/tears/cry/crying. That drove me nuts. And each situation was explained to death.

This is the first book I have ever read by this author and I’m not sure I’ll look for another. I honestly don’t even care much for the surrogate storyline. I can’t personally relate to giving up a baby for any reason. But, I thought it had good reviews so I’d give it try. I guess I need to stick to tropes I know I like.

Overall, throughout the book there was a rather gloomy, depressed atmosphere to it. At about 70% in it picked up and finally got more interesting and the ending somewhat redeemed the book overall. Still, the book is draggy and bloated at best in my opinion. Just not for me. I give it a 2.5 stars

4.5 stars!!!

THis was just TOO good.

THe eerie feeling stayed throughout the book even though, realistically speaking, the first couple of chapters were more than fine.

But it was just amazing. LG Davis is a new favorite now. Hands down. Too good for words.

I really enjoyed this one, it was a great story, another author to go on my favourites list!

When Grace decides to be a surrogate and to give the ultimate gift of a baby to one lucky couple, she just needs to find a couple she connects with. Then she meets Marcia and Travis Thorpe; they are wealthy due to Marcia’s parents’ family business and seem very much in love with just one thing missing in their lives- a much wanted baby. Grace has no doubt that they are the couple she has been looking for and after a few meetings with Marcia and Travis, contracts are signed, and the process begins. Much to Grace, Marcia and Travis’s delight Grace falls pregnant within a couple of months and with Grace refusing to be paid for the surrogacy Marica and Travis convince her to move in with them to their guesthouse so they can financially and emotionally support her and the growing baby. Grace realises this is the perfect solution as it enables her to go “off grid” for a while and hopefully escape her past and with it the reason she decided to become a surrogate. However, after becoming closer to Marcia and Travis, Grace begins to see cracks in their marriage, and she starts to wonder whether her first impression of them was very wrong. Can she really give up her baby when she feels she doesn’t know it’s potential parents at all and is the past as easy to escape from as she once thought?!

This was good, definitely gripping and a page turner. I was hooked fairly early on, and I really enjoyed the “then” chapters as it helped me get a much better understanding of Grace and the reason why she decided to be a surrogate. As this is a spoiler free review, I will just say I definitely did not see coming what occurred in chapter 35 and that did make me gasp with shock. The author did a brilliant job leading me down the wrong path over who the baddie of the story was, and I was 100% sucked in by the red herrings and did not predict who the actual villain was until it was plainly obvious. The ending was such a tease though and now I really want a sequel!

Overall, a really good book from L.G Davis and I would highly recommend it for any fans of psychological thrillers. I have already brought another book by L.G Davis on the back of reading this book and I look forward to reading it plus reading what else she comes out with.

Thank you to NetGalley, L.G Davis and Bookouture for my advanced reading copy. Out now.

Flippin' Flappin' Flip-Flops! 😳😯🤯

Well this one had some major promise - not just from the synopsis but also the writing by this author. Davis knew how to keep me intrigued, interested, doling out just enough to keep me unsure and off my feet. It was definitely an easy and fast paced psychological thriller with some dark twists thrown in for good measure. I was totally enamoured with the plot and what the conclusion could hold.

Mყ 𝐒ყɴ𝐨ρѕιѕ: When Grace is presented with an opportunity to be a surrogate for Marcia and Travis, she feels like it's a chance to start over from her traumatic past by fulfilling a need for this perfect couple. As the pregnancy progresses, they offer up their guesthouse to stay in until the baby arrives. But when she agrees and moves in, she immediately regrets her decision. With the Trope's constant hovering, Marcia's mother's disapproval, her own past regrets & inner turmoil, to random events happening, it that will cause her to question her sanity, her safety and ultimately her decision.

I will admit this story started out strong and didn't let up once which I both appreciated and enjoyed. However, the ending wasn't something I was left satisfied with; feeling it to be rushed and trying too hard to tie up some loose ends. I felt and was given the impression that the ending held more of "holy moo moo!" type moment, but it didn't deliver for me. But that aside, the 3/4 of the novel before that were wicked good! The potential was there, but the execution was just off for me at the end.

This was my first book by L.G. Davis and it will not be my last! I really enjoyed this book, so much that I finished it in one afternoon.

The Surrogate’s Gift is an intense domestic thriller about a woman named Grace who has chosen to give the gift of life to Marcia and Travis Thorpe. Grace is running from her past and is convinced helping this couple will “cure” her demons.

This book was so good, I instantly fell in love with Grace. As her story developed I couldn’t stop reading until I knew her and the baby were safe! (I know they are characters in a book but I was invested haha!)

The Surrogate’s Gift was a wild ride for sure, I would suggest this to anyone who loves a good thriller!

5 stars!

Grace has gone from a successful business woman with a lovly house and boyfriend to jobless, homeless and extremely anxious. This follows the death of her twin sister- grace feeling wholly responsible for her death.

Trying to give something back to the world, grace has offered to become a surrogate to Marcia and Travis, who are desperate to have a baby after many failed attempts.

Once pregnant, marcia and Travis insist she stays in their guest house for the duration of her pregnancy but they are taking control of her life, leaving her feeling claustrophic and trapped.

Although Grace builds a friendship with the recently widowed clayton, life is not easy as unexpected occurances happy in her guest house.

A touching read with a firey, twisted ending. Highly recommend a read.

The Queen of psychological thrillers does it again!
Wow I was pulled in from the very start and up until the very last page.
How can something so selfless and such a gift being given turn to such horror?
Well Ms. Davis certainly knows how to make it happen.
Grace, Marcia, Travis and Agnes are all intense complex characters.
These characters are twisted in one form or another.
They are so multilayered and complicated.
It was suspenseful and exciting seeing the layers being revealed and exposed.
Their story is thrilling and gritty.
I could not put it down once I started.
It’s fast paced and had me on edge throughout the book.
It’s a whodunnit and whosdoingit twisted tale.

I would have never guessed it was the wife behind it all. And to think her mom was just trying to help grace out. I really feel for grace and her sister and Peter. One thing they really didn’t make sense is the old boyfriend why was he stalking her so bad. She turned him down because she knew that he only asked her to marry him so she would not be a surrogate to her sister. I hated the ending, can’t grace ever be happy??? She finally has the baby and Clayton but now the weird ex bf has to ruin everything.

Badly written, annoying characters and pointless plot

I made it 20% into the book and had to give up. I skipped to the last chapter and it was all very predicable and overall a pointless story. There was no likeable character and most of the scenarios in the book were just ridiculous.
