Lovelorn Sunny turns misogynistic after Sandy, the only girl he loved walks away from his life, unannounced. As Imran gets killed by a stranger, Sunny's calm life suddenly turns into a turbulent storm. With nothing left to live for, vengeance becomes his ultimate mission. His reluctant alliance with a prostitute to trace the killer sets him onto a nerve racking adventure of life and death.
Both are bound to a common goal with different motives but destiny has its own motive. A walk in the rain is an intricate tale of intense emotions, driven by hair raising twists and turns.
This reader discovered ‘A Walk in the Rain’ is an oft-used title, gracing the covers of a number of books. However, Udai Yadla’s version must surely stand alone. It’s truly unique and beautifully written. Exquisite!
Aptly subtitled ‘A journey of love and redemption,’ it is exactly that. A romantic, often intense, occasionally delicate and always gripping tale of a love found and lost, and an unforgettable journey of self-discovery.
The writing is tight but not rushed, the characterization is excellent and the storyline grabs you from the prologue right through to the last page. A must-read!
Sunny is a lovelorn guy who has turned misogynistic after Sandy, the love of his life left him hanging and walked out of his life. He never really got over her and lives a lonely life – one where he has no complaints yet isn’t truly living it. His friend Imran tries changing it all by giving him a surprise on his birthday. But soon things spiral for the worse and Sunny loses his friend to death in the process. Now bent on revenge, Sunny has no one to turn to for help except for Saloni, a prostitute. They hate each other but each have something that the other needs… with their entwined lives and an adventure up ahead, a lot can happen.
I have to say it… I love the title of the book and the cover is simplistic yet pretty.
The characters of this book have many hues. None of them are simple and each has a story that has led them to become the person they are. I loved the many layered characteristics in the characters, especially Saloni. Her story really touched me and also gave me hope in some ways. The book also shows that love comes into a person’s life at many stages and always in different forms… The plot certainly has a lot to offer to its readers. It is not that of a typical romance nor a typical mystery. It combines both the flavours in a very balanced manner. My only issue with the book is its length. It could have been a 50-60 pages shorter had the author kept his narration shorter. There were places where it seemed that the author was rambling and dragging the story a bit.
However, this is an impressive debut with lots of emotion and action in the novel. I hope the author will write more in the near future as he has some potential and only needs a bit of fine-tuning with his narration.
Surprise surprise... Honestly I didn't have much expectations from this book from a first time author. The book was actually a gift from a friend. He promised me that I'll not regret spending my time on it. I actually enjoyed the book very much. What I liked the most about the book is the attention to details. The authors successfully connects the dots without any rough edges. The flip side of the book I should say is that it's little filmy. I hate filmy books. I'm willing to make an exception in this case because of the taut plot. But that doesn't justify the filmy flavor of the book. The romantic sequences really stirs the heart and the friendship part is very well handled. Metaphors were put to good use. The introduction of Sunny's friends were very hilarious and witty, but I don't see any relevance of such a comprehensive introduction when you are not going to use it. I hope the author sees sense in it. The last encounter between the hero and villain in the dark den really puts you on the edge of your seats, though slightly filmy. Little flaws are excusable when you could compensate those with a excellent story telling. This guy has potential. Hope he does not fizzle out like many good authors with a promising first book, but poor stuff thereafter.
One more author in my fav list after CB and Dan Brown.
A book which I think can make any one lost in it. If one starts reading it, I bet can hardly stop for any reason or take a break... It’s a complete journey which takes u to all the mix baggage of emotion... I just couldn’t stop reading it once I picked it up, and am compelled to write this review.... I, being a regular reader of almost every upcoming novel, am today writing this at this time just coz the book deserves this.
No frill characters and story is fast moving and gripping. There are few places in the book that can melt even a tough hearted person. Character of Saloni was depicted so well that I was drawn into her character. Though at some places it felt like I was watching a movie, it’s good to see an excellent movie with meaningful ending.
...a super awesome book with a rating of 10/10 it is.....I took almost 2 days to read the book.. This is the second time I cried sooo much. The book deserves a lot of praise for the way it was handled and connects with the reader... I can simply say I’m in love with the book..
The enticing prologue ensures that you are in for a great read. The author has beautifully described the blossoming friendship between Sandy, and Sunny.
The story is an action packed adventure full of twists and turns.
The book has some beautiful quotes.
“It’s beyond your consciousness that your soul lingers with the person you love and hence your mood will affect the one you love. This is the reason why you sometimes sense your moods changing mysteriously with no reason.”
Though the book could have been condensed, it is overall a great read from a debut author.
Recommended for those who love a romantic thriller.
I loved the prologue of the book. It ensured me that I am in for a great reading experience and I am in no way, disappointed. There are some extremely heart touching moments in the book, which would make your eyes clammy if you are an emotional person. The childhood love and friendship between Sunny and Sandy is something that will stay with you even after you finish the book. There are also some incredible twists and turns that makes this book an absolute page turner. These thought provoking words that Sandy told to Sunny touched my heart: It's beyond your consciousness that your soul lingers with the person you love and hence your mood will affect the one you love. This is the reason why you sometimes sense your mood changing mysteriously with no reason.
Recommended to all who loves to read romance with a little thrill and adventure.
I have read quite a few not so impressive Indian books recently. I wanted a change and I picked this book on kindle version. The author strikes the right chord from the first page. Very different way to start a romance fiction. It was a beautiful tale at the prologue, alright, but I wondered how it relates with the story. The author had not failed at that. The conversations are so beautifully written with lot of thought and depth. I love the dialogues. The childhood part is so cute, the parallel tracks are so precisely written and the backdrop offers the right mood to the sequences. You can see the story as you read it.
Plus: Language Dialogues Plot Feel good
Minus: Difficult words used more often Length
I would agree that the author has given special care to each character that has contributed to the length of the book. I appreciate that, but the elaborate introduction of protagonist's friends was not so necessary. The best debut novel I have read so far.
The cover is quite attractive & reminds me same like Tum Hi Ho- Aashiqui 2 but here the story is different. Saloni is a prostitute.
When Sandy -his only love- left him unannounced, Sunny turned into a misogynistic. Sunny's friend Imran tries to bring a change in Sunny's isolated life. The planned birthday surprise turns into a tragedy as Imran is killed. Sunny wants revenge,Saloni money. They get together to trace the killer on a breathtaking adventure.
The love story between Sandy & saloni really tounched my heart. The Blurb also gives you an idea about a love story which urge you to read the book. The characterization and sequences are a bit elaborate and adds to the length of the book.
But in some chapters, author has just elaborated, extended them, which i dont think was required, & so i felt boring in between.
Some quotes from the book : “It’s beyond your consciousness that your soul lingers with the person you love and hence your mood will affect the one you love. This is the reason why you sometimes sense your moods changing mysteriously with no reason.” “Separation is the most painful test to measure the sustainability of love.” The author has done good job.
A very well-conceived story with interesting characters and a tantalizing pace. I couldn’t ask for more than that. The book was amazing. The story is interesting, cool and enjoyable. I loved the way it was written. Yes because it made me think through character analysis and it made me think throughout the story and it improved my reading skills. The prose is very strong technically, and the characters are comprehensive and believable. I thoroughly enjoyed the way the strands come together as the novel pushes towards climax.
It’s exciting to find a new writer who tells life like it is, with twists of romance, suspense, tragedy keep you guessing. The story of Saloni is one of mystery, magic, courage, adventure, murder and potential. It's an extremely exciting read, and once you get into it, you can't let it go!
Furthermore, there is an array of different characters with diverse personalities, who are all very real, and I loved being immersed in such a rich story!
This is a must read for both new and tried and true Fantasy genre folks. I encourage you to read the book and enjoy one of life's true passions: curl up to a great book and let it take you away.
It's awesome. The book finds a place in my favorites list. I love the way you have depicted Saloni. Synonymous to courage and intelligence, she does not fear the challenges that the mean world throws at her. I wish I had her courage. Pain and disappointments does not deteriorate her hope. I read her part again and again and still wish to read again. The author had beautifully portrayed the heart of a girl and the pain that hides beneath her smile. Though Saloni is my pick of the characters, all the characters are depicted well with good background and logical characterization. The climax is mind blowing. Perfect finish, anyone would love. The dialogues should have a special mention. "It's not the person who is good or bad, it's the side we rub of him" is my favorite dialogue among many. Love, friendship, deceit, vengeance, humor, nostalgia. What else do you need. It's a perfectly balanced story with skillful narration. I will surely recommend to my friends.
The book started off like a routine love story, but surprised me as it went on. It's a love story. There is no doubt about it. Laced with thrills and chills, but the book offers more than just that. There are many subtle gems strewed through the story. Sister Teresa for instance. Her role carries little significance in the story, but it had influenced me a lot. I applaud the author for creating such a character which could inspire humanity. The language and the plot is awesome. The author does not let a loose point. Once I reached 150 pages, I completed the rest of the book in one sitting. I see that the author has done a lot of research on human psychology. The way he had portrayed the character and their behavior is the evidence of his command. I love all the characters but Sister Teresa stands out for me. Thank you for that.
The book starts with an interesting prologue. When I wondered how that relates to the story, the author beautifully co-relates it with the story. The book is full of interesting ideas and thoughts. For instance, Saloni making her handkerchief into a pouch and tying it to her wrist. There are many witty one liners. Dialogues are really beautifully written and the conversations, especially between Sunny and Saloni are very special. It sucks you into it. The author makes no compromise with the plot and makes a absolute product. The characterization and sequences are a bit elaborate and adds to the length of the book. There were a few places where my heart beat hiked and there were few instances when I cried. There were also instances which gave me smiles. Read the book if you want to experience the depth of love.
This book is been very interesting. The book is so gripping that it will suck you into it and won't let you off till you finish it. You will laugh, you will cry, you will love few characters, you will hate a few. You will literally feel the characters. Love was so beautifully portrayed, that you fall in love with it. There are no irrelevant characters, no unnecessary dragging. A fast mving tale. After reading this book I have been a fan of the author's writing and eagerly waiting for his next. While reading you feel like watching a movie, as if the events are happening in front of you. The author does not tell you a story, he shows you. After Chetan bhagat's I feel like this book has worth to be a movie in future. A must read for all who believe in true love, waiting for you next book ....
Not the genre I usually read, but I must say that the story rather surprised me, considering the fact that it’s from a first time author. Not the love story that makes you feel warm inside after reading it, but the kind that you know will have a happy ending. It’s like a Chetan Bhagat story, written more as a movie than a book, a little too filmy to my taste. Hoping to see more books penned down by the author, which can set good examples of strong women who don’t resort to prostitution for all problems. The protagonist, Sandy was definitely too intelligent to not have broken out of the shackles around her.
The book is infused with love, friendship, despair, retribution and redemption, a concoction of emotions. The story unfolds at a brisk space, with many twists and turns, one would have to try hard not to finish it at once. Characters are well described, however, elaborations of a few could have been kept tight, given their significance to the story. Saloni is the most attractive feature of the book. She is a breath of fresh air, a rare blend of beauty, brain and heart, topped off with a thick layer of honor and dignity. The subtle alchemy of love between Saloni and Sunny is exquisite, just like `a walk in the rain'.
Excellent book. The characters are well etched, plot well woven, and story well written. It's a very tight plot and interesting read. I love the way the protagonists are characterized. I loved Saloni's character the most. The prologue anecdote was awesome. The switches to the childhood memories were deftly handled without killing the pace of the plot. It's a fast paced, gripping tale which will take you through the final pages with bated breath. Recommended for all the romance lovers and also thriller lovers.
This book is different from all other Indian books I have read. Different in a positive way. The story starts like a breeze, but as the story progresses, it turns into a storm, with unexpected events. The story is crisp and the conversations are mature and meaningful. As the story enters the second half it is very tight and takes you to the edge of your seats. It's minute by minute narration. It is evident that the author has done a lot of work and does have good potential. What works for the book is the deftly handled plot. What may not work for the book is the length of the book. I would have recommended the author the reduce the book by 50 pages to suit Indian readers. The way the author finishes is very smooth, filmy though. This will surely make a nice movie. There are lot of moments that lingers in your heart after the book. Few powerful dialogues too. One of my most favorite is - Did you ever come across a situation where you had to act ecstasy in extreme pain? Did you ever happen to live two contrasting lives at the same time? Did you ever feel that you have nothing to do with your life, you do not own it? Did you ever want to end your life, but were forced to live and you had to die every day? I loved the book. A different read.
Udai,an extremely talented author, replicts it in his first book. The emotional bondage between the characters are touching. The explanation for the thread of love is simply superb. The inner turmoil between sunny and saloni and their childhood memories are twined inbetween in an excellent manner.sunny's character corrects himself in his own thoughts for judging a person is absolutely well depicted.saloni, another marvellous character who respects others feelings is also a well depicted character. Overall an amazing book to read. The climax is what makes it excellent. Udai all the best for ur future endeavours.
A walk in the rain, said the title of the book. Please not another mushy love story, I prayed. It did start like one. Oh… please no, I prayed. It was the line below the title that kept me going as it said- ‘A journey of love and redemption’. Love and redemption sounded like a lethal combination. To an extent it was. The fact that it was a romance thriller further fuelled my interest.
For a first time writer, he has done a good job. But I really would like to suggest that often, self publishing has its cons too. For one- there is a tendency to look over minor mistakes that are bound to be committed in the eagerness to complete our book. The second, as told by a professor in my college once, never ever fall in love with your work. When that is followed, you seem to be in a better position to access your own work.
Coming back to the book, it has got many instances where the innocence of a childhood crush or the many little moments, that are said to bring immense joy to one’s life, are all there. It does make the reader smile at times, also capable of tugging at the heart, at other times.
The twists were well placed, unfurling the story bit by bit. There were minor flaws, bound to happen.
In the beginning, I found that there were too many characters- some needed, some worth avoidance. The introduction of Sunny’s (protagonist) friends were nice but as the story progresses, some of the characterizations fall flat, making the reader wonder what happened to those instances of their lives.
Life in a brothel has been elucidated with a human touch to it. The so-called ‘body-sellers’ and their often painful, better forgotten pasts as well as their permanent ostracization from the society of the so-called well mannered, civilized citizens is worth more than just a thought. I wish people could see beyond mere professions of people, for behind each face is a story of which, we have no idea.
As a reader, I found the resolution building part a bit too dragged. The description of the fight could have been cut short because the darkness during the entire fight ended up clouding my mind as well. But that said, I definitely would like to appreciate the author’s storytelling capability that can at many times make the reader feel as if a movie is being played- which reminds me to say that the writing seems more like a script for a movie rather than a novel. Well, that could be taken as a compliment or otherwise, whichever suits better. :)
Best wishes to the promising author with a long way to go!
If I had been granted the wish to live a fiction novel character, I'd choose to be Saloni. And I'm proud of it. What a girl, what a character. I can't get her out of my mind. The author should have toiled a lot to have created such a wonderful character. I loved her and loved to be her. She is a symbol of woman power. Also I loved the way the author has defined chastity. "Chastity is not an attribute of body, but soul" - The novel justifies the stance. I would recommend this book to all my friends.
I found this book to be extremely engaging and witty. The romance part is breezy and pleasant, the the thrill part is top notch. The author has put in extra effort to make the book trilling. He gets the sarcasm just right, perfect timing. He leaves no loose ends. A tight plot. It is a book that all youngsters can relate to. It is fast paced, and in sync with our time. It is full of unexpected turns and twists that keep you hooked till the end. Money well spent!
An interesting read. The narration of the author was impressive ..words transformed into images as I read it. Particularly ..tracing the killer's location without any idea on his whereabouts.. Sunny's venture into the dark building in search of Hari. Felt like a couple of characters were unnecessary and their intro could have been shortened howEVer towards the end ,their necessity appears to be jUStified. Appreciate the author for the descriptive narration without killing the curiosity.
A walk in the Rain is a feel good book. It has drama, romance, mystery, and thrill gushing through its pages. Udai Yadla has crafted a good plot and gotten a good book off of it.
The book is written in a style that switches between the past and the present. It does the author credit that he does this throughout the book very seamlessly.
Surya, or Sunny as he is known to his friends, is a system programmer. He doesn’t socialise much, a lingering effect of an indifferent father and secluded childhood. But the few friends he has, he cherishes.Saloni is a prostitute forced into the job by circumstances and the greed of others. When fate brings Saloni and Sunny together, they witness the murder of Sunny’s close friend. As Sunny sets off to avenge his friend’s death, he enlists the help of Saloni who agrees but asks for money in exchange. The two set off to catch the murderer.
Although A Walk in the Rain is a good book, it could have been great. Sometimes there are too many words where a few would have sufficed. But, what really takes away the focus from the story and the writing is the editing. Had it been given a little more attention, the book would have been a great read.
Overall, A Walk in the Rain is a good book, filled with twists and turn that add to an interesting plot. I would recommend it to anyone looking for discovering new writing.
Love is the only language which does not need words. The story is a journey of love and redemption. A story of true love which lasts for ages and never fades away; which pass the test of every season and came stronger every time. A long waiting which seems an eternity.
Surya is a timid and lonely boy who does not talk much and do not make friends. A fear of rejection encircled him every time. He buried himself in studies and avoids frolics going around. One day, a new student at the start of academic year entered the class and asked him if she can sit with him on his bench. She is Sandhya, a beautiful girl with pink cheeks. Sandhya befriend with him and he likes her company. Their friendship became strong with time as they sit together; walk home together; and only little time left when they are apart.
A lot has happened in two decades. Sandhya becomes Saloni. Their destiny brings them together again but unknown to the truth that what they have been looking for all these years are right in front of them.
The story is of true love. A long waiting for the lost love they once had came knocking on their door. They moved in their life but their heart belongs to each other; waiting for its rightful owner.
A simple story of two soul mates but fate keeps them apart and destiny has a story to tell. A story they shall never forgive.
A walk in a rain can be described in one sentence as a simple cute story. There are a lot of sub plots along with the main plot. The book is like a collection of short stories of Sunny,Sandy,Saloni,Pooja and Imran, which gets interconnected in the end to a nailbiting murder mystery. The one liner of the story is interesting. Author has adopted a simple narration, comprehensible to even the first time readers, which suits this YA romance.
Over all the narration is simple. The characters are developed well, so are the back stories of the characters. Nevertheless, in most of the areas, professionalism was missing. For a YA romance, hard-core professionalism cannot be expected, nevertheless, a little more hard work ought to be invested to make the book worth the price.
The relation of Sunny with Sandy, Imran and Saloni dvelves in different layers of psyche. Love, friendship, enmity,vendetta- Sunny's character is an emotionally multilayered creation.
The book cover is in sink with the narration and overall storyline, so is the title. An aggression felt for the downtrodden mass of people was evident in the narration but thorough homework was required. Lack of editing was evident in the book.
This review is in return of a free book from Writers Melon
This is my first book review and glad to do it for this book.
Author makes us to get in sync into each character's track from the beginning , quite usual but had links between them that makes our hands to hold the book upright. Little illogical when complete story flips and narrows down to a day and interestingly unexpected plots bound within . it has all the hidden thoughts between the characters visible only to us and tempt us to break the bubbles wherever we feel it will.
Simple words and deep elaboration of the details within every scene play into our mind with clear flow without boring. Ultimate center point being the love between the leads gives good feeling of a differently approached love story that seldom expose between them.
Overall Udai as a debut author pinches you with good story and warm feeling of romance that makes you play the scenes for a while . Great Work Udai
Touching love story with lots of twists. Enjoyed lot in reading and so interesting which made me to complete this book within a week itself.Good story narration, appreciate Udaikumar effort. Very opt for young generation and fully recommend this book for all young readers and people who love to read love thriller.
Some of the charecters could have been ignored, but they are not boring...Worth to read this book... Sandy and sunny are stil in my mind...Good climax...Waiting for Udai's next book...
A Walk in the Rain A journey of love and redemption
“Separation is the most painful test to measure the sustainability of love” - By Udai Yadla
The story opens with the hero of the tale, Surya (Sunny) who is awaken by the rain drops, where the author lets us to wake up our hearts to the rhythmic arrangement of words. The character of Sunny is analyzed and related with his past life. We are further introduced to characters such as Sandy, Imran, Saloni, Pooja, Victor, Hari and some more forming the ground of the tale.
The present days and the past years of each character is narrated in such a way that life is brought to them by the words.
Sunny and Sandy: Sunny, is the protagonist of the novel, who has had his only friend, love and life, who is Sandy. They meet each other in their early school days and from then and there they seem belong to each other, and they do. The pure friendship, the unconditional love, the sacrifice they make for each other, the struggles the hide from each other, altogether fill up the pages with a picturesque scenario. The story of Sunny and Sandy is exposed as harmonious past as Sandy is not with Sunny and Sunny cannot get over her memories at any cost.
Pooja and Saloni: Saloni and Pooja are one such of good friends under a worst circumstance. Being prostitutes, they themselves have such a dreadful past life which has pushed them into an atrocious position. Still, they don’t lose their hope and courage being hurt deep in their heart. Saloni, who is new to this, gets a moral support from Pooja.
“…… When you are out in the jungle, be the beast, not the prey”
Pooja and Sam: Pooja is considered to be the most sought-after prostitute by her mates. She does flirting games but unlike others who pull the legs of men just to earn extra money, Pooja does that to feel independent. In such a game, she accidentally gets to know about Sam and incidentally is disturbed by his loyalty, is being hidden by her identity yet stays unchanged knowing her true self.
Sunny’s birthday gift: Imran, being a good friend of Sunny, plans to give a pleasant gift on his birthday. Without aware of the surprise, Sunny is driven into the prostitute house by Imran where he meets Saloni. Knowingly or unknowingly, Imran has given the right gift. Imran want Sunny to come out of his emotional hibernation, for which he has made such an arrangement. But there comes a tragic twist with the death of Imran, in which the life of each person in the tale takes an upright turn from their living.
Saloni, who has witnessed the murder, is compelled by Sunny to help him in tracking the killer. Saloni initially agrees just for the sake of money which Sunny promises to pay. Saloni also does hold a pinch of happiness to help Sunny as he kills the one whom she hates the most. From the first meet, Sunny shows only hatred towards Saloni which is basically due to her profession. But somewhere he finds her intelligent and skillful than him. Slowly he finds that her self-respect and pride totally unfits her profession. For Sunny, Saloni is unpredictable until the end but Saloni who stumble on unsaid truth with Sunny, helps and protects him in each of his step, like she did till then.
Did Sunny find the reason behind his mystical attraction towards Saloni? Did Sunny succeed in his settling of scores? What happens to the love of Pooja with Sam after the truth being revealed to him? Does ‘A walk in the Rain’ really happen? To know the answers, do grab a copy of the book, A WALK IN THE RAIN by UDAI YADLA.
The author has come out with wonderful piece of tale which I submerged with love, friendship, revenge, crime on the whole. The fiction blissfully starts and ends with the rain. The way of writing, especially while describing the beauty of Mother Nature, the author has succeeded in making the reader fall for its beauty himself. A well penned tale.
3.5 stars The book cover is pretty simple yet beautiful. The story however, is kinda like a movie. The guy-girl romance, get separated and the friends, villians and of course fights. So not much of a surprise there. I have to say this first so none of you take it in the wrong way. I liked this book. I flew through the pages, one after the other. I stayed up till 2 am reading until I finished it. The characters were realistic, likeable. Sunny, the shy kid finds a friend in Sandy the bubbly girl. The cute friendship and how the bond strengthens, I loved reading about that. Some of the sad and painful parts were just written so realistically, I guess that's what makes someone a good author. Portraying those emotions using words. Ever since the prologue, I was impressed by the author's chain of thought. I was impressed with the writing style and sometimes, it was the only thing that kept me reading. The way new characters are introduced, with their own back story and even a present continuation in case of some characters, it was fun. The plot however I have to say was predictable. (Maybe it's just me. I mean come on, I predicted The wasp factory. I've got a good instinct with this stuff.)
Still there were some surprising elements, and I was intrigued to keep reading about these characters that I connected with pretty easily. Here's a quote I liked :
“It’s not the person who is good or bad, it’s the side we rub of them.”
A walk in the Rain is a contemporary romance that readers like me would enjoy reading especially in a perfect setting. (When it's raining outside, and you've got coffee.)
