Rock and Roll Fantasy Collection #2

Scary Modsters…and Creepy Freaks

Rate this book
A fantastical romance involving a girl, the music that fuels her, and her Ouija board.

Rosalyn possesses a sunny personality that is laced with quirks. Although she seeks acceptance in a world where she lives out of time, what she gets is ridiculed for her eclectic wardrobe and unconventional music collection.

One fateful night, Rosalyn bewitches Niles, a stylish man whose offbeat character perfectly complements her own. Unfortunately, he possesses a critical flaw that means relationship suicide for him and pretty much anyone.

While under the influence of insomnia-impaired judgment, Rosalyn summons Rock ‘n Roll deity Peter Lane back from the dead. Not only does he spin her hormones into a frenzy, Peter is also the precarious puzzle piece that brings sense into her world. When Niles learns that he can overcome his life-long challenge by helping Peter avenge his death, how far will he go to secure Rosalyn’s heart?

Enjoying San Francisco as a backdrop, the ghosts in Diane’s 150-year old Victorian home augment the chorus in her head. With insomnia as their catalyst, these voices have become multifarious characters that haunt her well into the sun’s crowning hours, refusing to let go until they have manipulated her into succumbing to their whims. Her experiences as an actress, business owner, artisan cake designer, software project manager, Internet radio disc jockey, vintage rock n’ roll journalist/fan girl, and lover of dark and quirky personalities influence her idiosyncratic writing.

This isn’t a book I would normally pick up based on the synopsis. I wanted to read it for one reason, and one reason alone. Because I’ve loved all the authors previous books. I’m very happy I gave this book a go! It was an enjoyable and original read and the writing was wonderful!

We meet Rosalyn, who is a girl who was born in the wrong era. She’s tried to fit in with the current times, but she has to be who she is. She is fun, unique and spunky. I loved that she was who she was. She accepted and embraced the things that were different about her.
I’ve tried to be like them and embrace something trendy. But in being part of the in crowd I found I was betraying myself. My heart only sings when I’m truthful about my passions for clothes and music of the past.

She meets Niles at a bar when she’s out with her best friend Jacqueline. Niles seems like he could be just the type of guy she’s been looking for. He is also a little quirky. Maybe, just maybe they both could have found their match?
The joy on her face is encouraging. Maybe I have found someone like me. Scratch that. No one is ever like me.

Then there is Peter Lane. Famous musician from the 60’s who died too young. All Peter wanted to do was make music that he loved and be with his girl. Nothing for him went right. For some reason, Peter and Rox have this connection. I’m going to stay tight lipped about the rest... because you just have to read it and enjoy the ride!

Rosalyn, Peter, Niles, I loved them all! As I said before, this book was a little different than what I would normally read, but I love reading things that aren’t always my go to genre. It had an incredibly unique story line. Fun and funky. Fast paced. Never boring. I always enjoy this authors writing. She serisouly has a way with words, and makes you fall in love with her characters. A wonderful read about soul mates, staying true to who you are, friendship, music, love, and passion.

All I ever wanted was someone to smile with. Someday, when our worlds collide, my soul will be complete. Until then I await your simple hello and the colors of pink and purple that will forever flower my world.

It’s been suggested that Chavs are the offspring of previous working-class youth subcultures such as Skinheads and in turn Mods, but this book has nothing to do with Chavs. Here we’re talking Mods, the working-class, scooter-riding precursor to the Skinhead. The Mod subculture, which had its roots in the economically depressed areas of South, East and West London, favoured the ‘Rude Boy’ look, and Mods found themselves enticed by vibrant Caribbean ska, bluebeat and reggae because it was a covert, underground, non-commercialised music that was spread through house parties and clubs. By the end of the 60’s Mods – who were by now sporting close-cropped hairstyles - had become known as Skinheads.

But it’s in 1966 – two years after Pete Townshend first smashed up his guitar at The Railway Tavern, Wealdstone (a walk from where I grew up), and a year or two before Mods become Skinheads - that we meet Peter, a sort of New Romantic pop star ahead of his time. The interesting thing about Peter is that he’s soon to become a ghost.

A favourite pastime of my own is poking fun at East Londoners when they start going on and on and on about jellied eels and pie ‘n’ mash and West Ham winning the World Cup in 1966, and I’m sure the author shares my sense of humour here for she taunts and derides them by placing Peter’s father as a worker in a steel mill, when at the time all East London men either worked down the docks or in the ship-building industry - the nearest steel mills to the East End of London being about 200 miles away in Sheffield. And she then rubs salt in the wound by stating that Peter’s mother was a waitress in a pub! You won’t find a waitress in an East London pub now! In fact you’ll hardly find waitresses in any pub in England – let alone war-torn London in the 1930’s and 40’s.

And this will, of course, have East Londoners rocking backwards and forwards in indignation, “Waitresses in pubs, and steel mills in East London! I’ve never heard of such a thing! Apples & pears, Bow Bells, Adam & Eve it, food of the Gods, I should coco!”

I love it! Rinella, by daring to poke fun at East Londoners, is tipping the world on its head a little bit, and I adore the devilry! In fairness, East Enders have a terrific sense of self-deprecating humour. They hate their football team, they love their jellied eels and they’re not afraid to stand toe to toe with anyone in the world. Although I take the piss out of them, I love ‘em.

If I had to find a negative here - and I truly don’t need to in such an excellent tale – it’s that despite the title there isn’t a single Mod in the book at all. No fishtail parkas or zoot suits, no Vespas or Lambrettas, not even the odd clash with Rockers on Brighton seafront or Shepherd’s Bush Market. But we can forgive the author this small faux pas in the title, for this is a well-thought out storyline and the reader is never quite sure where it’s heading.

And the book truly does get better and better! Diane has a quirky style of writing that is quite appealing. She switches not only between past and present, but also between the male and female point-of-view. And she manages both with such ease.

I really don’t want to throw any spoilers in here, but there is much, much more to this book than can be imagined at first glance. Upon reading it you feel as if someone called Fuchsia or Bamboo or Puma, who runs the local writer’s workshop, has set the group a task of writing a tale with all the ingredients of Nick Hornby’s Hi-Fidelity, as well as a paranormal romance and reincarnation, and asked the group to try and include both the male and female POV, and for good measure to also leave a ‘message,’ no matter how subtle, and Diane Rinella has said, “Righto, then” and sat down to churn out this idiosyncratic masterpiece in a weekend. It is excellent!

The overriding message between the lines, by the way, is that of musicians being ripped off by their promoters. Jimi Hendrix was boracic when he died, as was Joe Louis by the way, with most of his money going to his handlers. But it’s not just boxers and musicians who get ripped off. I’ve seen timeshare salesmen, door-to-door salesmen and a host of other occupations, including no doubt authors who’ve fallen victim to unscrupulous publishers. Rinella cleverly uses the metaphor of the pop star to bring this wrong to light.

But back to the story. It’s simply fab! There are twists in the tale, and twists in the twists. You’ve got a couple of dippy birds, a saucy and at times flippant ghost who is consumed with thoughts of revenge, a love affair or two, and a lawyer with blunted emotions. I was very sad when the book finished and these daft characters left my life. Mainly, I think, because I actually liked all of them.

Before I finish this review, however, I'd like to make something absolutely clear; if anyone saw me on the train to work reading the last few pages of `Scary Modsters' and looking like I was welling up ..... I wasn't, okay? I'd just pulled a hair out of nose, that's all. Wasn't crying, aright?

Do yourself a favour and download this book sharpish! You won’t regret it.

Review for Scary Modsters by Diane Rinella

So not many of my whores know that I have tastes that go beyond smuttastic erotica. I actually love quirky, fun books that don’t have much if any smut to them.

(Pause for gasps from those of you suffering from shock and awe.)

Scary Modsters by Diane Rinella is one of those non-smutty books that was not only amazing, but fan-fucking-tastic! When I read the book I completely lost myself into the lives of Rosalyn, Niles, and Peter. It was impossible not to get swept away. The craftful way that the author set the scene for this book was pure genius. I don’t rave about originality lightly, when I tell you it’s unlike anything I’ve read before, it really is and this one is surprising in all the best ways.

In Scary Modsters we have Rosalyn who, for lack of better explanation, marches to the beat of her own drum. There are conformists who dress appropriately, listen to the radio and like what they are told to like, think that CGI and special effects are the best thing since sliced bread and then we have Rosalyn. I adore how she is brave enough to be different even though it makes her uncomfortable in public and gives her self-image issues from time to time. Anyone who is brave enough to flaunt their freak flag instead of keeping it behind closed doors where there are no judgmental eyes around deserves serious kudos in my book.

Jacqueline is Rosalyn’s best friend and housemate. They are almost complete opposites, but somehow the pair make their friendship work. I wasn’t sure about Jacqueline at first, but she and I became friends along the way. Her loyalty to Rox and the way she never gave up on finding love was pretty endearing.

We then have the boys… Peter Lane and Niles. Peter Lane was almost somebody… and then he was nobody. His dream was to make music, but the red tape and restrictions were roadblocks to creative freedom that only those with a death wish tried to fight. Poor Peter Lane. RIP. I’m sure you are confused by why or how a man who died forever ago can have anything to do with this book, since it’s set in present day, well that’s a mystery you’ll just have to read the book to unravel. And I bet you’re also questioning why Peter Lane and Niles got lumped together in this review.. that again is a mystery best left to figure out on your own. I will give a little big on Niles… much like Rox he is offbeat and awkward. He is a genius, lawyer, music lover, and muscle car enthusiast. That’s all you get.

The only downside to this book for me… I finished reading it. Now, I got this as an advanced reader, so I am completely lucky that I was able to read it long before it’s release, however, I’m unlucky in that it will never be a fresh new story for me again. If you love a story with a bit of mystery, a touch of questionable, and a quirky romance then you really should check out Scary Modsters. This is a FIVE star storyline for a beautifully written and perfectly crafted tale. It’s not in any way smutty, but I give it 2 damp panties for the angst-ridden sexual tension that Rox, Peter Lane, and Niles suffer.

Ok, I have to admit that the beginning of this book was a little confusing to me. Then again many books that change time back and forth confuse to me. But, I kept with it. About half way through the book, past and present merge and I was able to really enjoy the book. Not that I didn't enjoy it before hand, remember the whole flash back thing is my issue, not the story's issue.

That being said......I really liked the story of Peter, Jane, Niles, and Rosalyn. Fate is an interesting thing. Soul mates, reincarnation, revenge, fixing your soul to be with the one you love.....this book has it all! It was interesting and it makes you think of your life and what you would do to make things right. Is revenge worth being without half of yourself or the person you love?

If you like stories about finding and being with your soul mate forever (even after your death), then this is the book for you. I really liked this story. I give it 4 Hearts!

What to say about this story... It is different than anything I have ever read. A little bit paranormal, a little bit hippy, a little bit groovy, a little bit suspenseful, a little bit romantic.... I think you are starting to get my drift.

The idea of reincarnation and ghosts mixed in with present time is pretty neat. Diane Rinella did a wonderful job giving you the info on the past as you needed to know it and tie it in to the present. The paranormal aspects that are thrown in aren't overpowering paranormal. They add to the intrigue of the book. It's like making a cake. A little bit of this, a little bit of that, and then you have your wondrous creation! That's what this story is.

I loved the idea of the 60's hipster theme. It's unique. The characters are lovable. The connection that Ros and Peter have is portrayed perfectly all throughout the story. The give and take, their inner struggles with themselves and the truth about themselves kept me waiting to see how the story would play out.

The ending was bliss. I don't think there could have been a better way to end the book. The villain needed to be taken care of. A couple needed to finalize their relationship. The suspense in getting to the end had me on the edge of my seat.

Overall, I totally enjoyed this book. I love reading something unique. The same old love story gets boring after a while. There was no boredom with this one!

Beautiful Story

Diane has done it again. What an amazing story. In Scary Modsters and Creepy Freaks, you meet Peter a 60's up and coming rock star, and his wife and makeup artist Jane. When Peter realized he and his band are not getting the money they earned , he looks into it. Only to end up killed. Present day We meet Rosalyn a woman who loves the 60's. When she finds a record from the late Peter she buys it. Only she finds herself face to ghost with Peter. (yes Peter is a ghost who is out for revenge on the person how killed him). So will Rosalyn help Peter? Then there is Niles just as corky as Rox. When they meet they seem to have a lot in common. But Niles holds back. So why did I give this book 5 stars? It's beautifully written and the characters in this story are amazing. It's not just your boy meets girl and fall head over hills in love. Or the bad boy rocker book that seems to be the thing.

I didn't know what to expect from Scary Modsters. Having read all of Diane Rinella's other work, I know I enjoy her writing and story telling skills. So of course I had to give this one a whirl. What I got was a very different, touching, fun, spooky, mysterious and romantic read that I know many fans of the genre will enjoy :)
Secrets are something many bear, they can be a very heavy weight on the hearts and souls of those that carry them. Rosalyn is no different. She lives, goes through the motions and tried her damned best to move forward, but it's just not...complete. That's until she meets a certain well dressed gentleman that seems to good to be true. Oh and when she see's the spirit of a certain rocker...well let's just say it's anything but ordinary.
I enjoyed the way the story has a touch of paranormal mixed into an original story that lingers long after it's read.

I originally fell in love with Diane Rinella's writing with her Forbidden Flower books. She writes in such an open, beautiful way, and it's always a great experience to read. While this particular story was less of a hit on my feels, it was still a book I very much enjoyed. Scary Modsters was fun, cool, and so incredibly different.

The characters were all kinds of awesome. I love Rosalyn's name, and her character grew on me throughout the story. At first, I was sort of skeptical of her, as I generally am because I hate it when characters do things that make me angry. But Rosalyn was fine, and I actually liked her. And Peter...he was what pulled me in from the very beginning. He was so self aware to begin with, and I found that refreshing. Plus, he was just a very intriguing character. Of course, I ended up a huge fan of his by the time the story came to an end. And then we have Niles...yeah, I loved him. He was so smart about some things, but so clueless about others, and I couldn't help but to find that endearing.

I loved that this book was told from the three POVs of the main characters. It was nice to get a look inside each of their heads, and they were all so unique that I didn't have any trouble telling whose head I was in at any given moment. It also gave me a much better feel for each of the characters, which led me to easily like them more.

Music plays a huge part of this book, and I adore that. So much. It's in the chapter titles, it's in the plot, it's in the characters, it's in everything. It was so perfect. I definitely went through that playlist both when I finished the book and as I was reading. I loved how it added a little extra something to the experience of reading this book--and made it all the more fun.

The romance and the plot were both things I could most definitely get behind. The plot went right along with the different feel of this book, and the whole thing was so gosh darn enjoyable. And the romance...Niles was so sweet. It was kind of funny at times, because Niles was so...HIM. But it worked. It worked so well. And Peter. When I said I was a fan of Peter, that totally carries over to his romantic elements, as well. I approve. OF ALL OF IT.

Overall, Scary Modsters was a fun, unique story that I seriously enjoyed. While it was different from Diane Rinella's other works, it still held that flare she puts into everything she writes, making this a story I was incredibly into and cared about from the first words to the last.

IT'S SCARY WHAT EMOTIONS THESE MODSTERS CAN STIR UP!

What do a Ouji Board, vintage clothing, sixties music, a deceased rock star, London and the USA present day have in common?
Let me start by introducing you to some of the most original and endearing characters I've met within the pages of this incredible read!
Rosalyn - A beautiful, quirky 60's fashion savvy young woman who has an insatiable addiction to music from the sixties. She is complex but you'll learn why she can't let go of her feelings.....trust me. And the fact that she dances to her own tune and doesn't give a flip what anyone else thinks makes her all the more lovable!

Jacqueline - Rosalyn's best friend and roommate; total opposites but nonetheless a true friend who has been through thick and thin with Rox. She has Rosalyn's best interests at heart and is very protective of her. A great friend to have.

Niles - OMG! Mr. Dreamy in my book! This dapper man had my heart from the moment he was introduced. Hands down, suave, educated, handsome, a tad quirky and mysterious. All the makings of a dream book boyfriend.

But WAIT! What about Peter Lane? The rock god from days past....Summoned by Rosalyn on her ouija board who came to be a huge part of Rox and Niles. Peter was definitely dessert for my second book boyfriend in the book. With Peter, though I will have to say he has a side to him that makes you want to slap him upside his head at times...he can be such a devious smart ass! And there are times in the book where he has no business being present in a certain 'situation'..hehe!

I just can't say enough good things about this book! The author is a master (mistress, should I say) at writing in different POV and incorporating them to where you don't miss a thing and the flow from one POV to the next is simply lyrical.

Rosalyn, Niles and Peter end up being kindred spirits and work together to achieve a very important mission. I'm not going to list any spoilers so you'll have to trust me on this one.

Successfully experiencing every emotion in a book for me is what determines a good read - this book did just that. I can honestly say that I cried while reading several pages of this book - heart, gut wrenching tears and I honestly did NOT see it coming and I didn't want this book to end.
So with no spoilers and a warning to have a box of tissues next to you, it is my distinct pleasure to give this book a well deserved FIVE GROOVY, VINYL, FAR OUT Peace Loving Stars!! Well done Ms. Rinella!

Rosalyn was born 30 years too late. She is a 60’s child at heart, with her loving outgoing personality and her eclectic choices in vintage clothes. She eats and breathes everything having to do with the 60’s. She still listens to vinyl and loves all the bands that emerged during that decade. Browsing through the racks of records at a music store, she stumbles across an autographed album by Peter Lane an up and coming musician who died tragically way too young.
While listening to the beautiful, smooth as silk voice of Peter Lane, Rosalyn gets out her Ouija board and attempts to contact him. Big mistake! Now she can see and speak to Peter all the time! He explains that he was murdered and needs to avenge his death and he wants to see his beloved Jane and tell her how much he misses her. Rosalyn explains that it would be impossible because Jane committed suicide shortly after his death. Convinced she would never do that, he believes her death was to tie up the loose ends associated with his.
Rosalyn is out with friends when she sees Niles across the bar. He is in a business suit with a vintage look to it and Rosalyn can feel herself drawn to this man. He also sees her and is intrigued by her vintage clothing and beautiful smile. They are a perfect match but something is off. She doesn’t have that spark when they kiss for him, or he for her. But she does feel a strong attachment. However, she does have that strong emotional pull for Peter…..
This is an interesting book, about soul mates and reincarnation. Very different and once you start reading you do get hooked on the story line. Well written, 4 stars.

I’m not a huge music buff so I had a hard time getting into this story because I kept stopping to look up songs. Once I got over that little hiccough I really got into the story. The plot is interesting and I’ve never read a book like it before.
Rosalyn is a quirky girl that seems to be born a few decades after her time. She meets Niles, a man that has as many quirks as she does. She could love him if only there wasn’t something missing. One night while suffering from insomnia she brings back the ghost of Peter Lane and sets the three of them on a journey. Together they work to get the revenge Peter is looking for, bring Niles what he has been missing his whole life, and explain why Rosalyn feels like she was born decades late. Their search for justice as well as revenge will keep you turning the pages loooong into the night.
This book was a gift so may not show confirmed purchase.

This was the grooviest book I've read in a long time! I loved the way Diane Rinella mixed the 60's with the present in order to tell an awesome story!
Rosalyn is working a dead end job unappreciated as a payroll clerk. She's very hip and loves to dress retro and listen to music from decades past. One day she goes to her fave record store and purchases an album from a very popular 60's rock band, and that's where her life starts changing. Meanwhile she gets bold and gives a guy her number but is shocked when he actually contacts her. I don't want to give it all away but I will tell you this has sexy rock star named Peter Lane, a sexy lawyer named Niles, and a very happy ending!

An enjoyable book, mainly because it was something different. There's romance, a ghost, music, light comic moments without being a comedy, and more poignant moments, in particular coping with past hurt.

Diane Rinella manages to steer the plot away from being predictably linear with a couple of unexpected literary spanners in the works. She also uses a clever character device to explore whether you can fall in love with someone purely based on what the head says, or if you need that all important connection with the heart, regardless of how well suited a person seems.

With music running throughout the story, it makes for a pleasant, easy read on the weekend.

Fantastic story that had me turning the pages as fast as I could to find out what was going to happen next. I LOVE stories like this. Tortured heroes and heroines who navigate an obstacle course to find love and this one was done beautifully with a unique spin that keeps you enthralled. Not to mention the amazing writing style of Ms. Rinella. She has a way of drawing you into the story and connecting with the characters. The connection between Peter, Niles, and Rosalyn will surprise you. It's a love triangle that will leave you torn in two. I'd love to say more about the three main characters but I'd be spilling spoilers. All I can say is get the book

In Diane Rinella's new book, we meet a whole new cast of characters, including a lady who's always felt she she was born in the wrong era, the handsome lawyer she's falling in love with... and the ghost of the 1960s pop star she's ALREADY fallen in love with!

The book is filled with fun musical references and sly hooks into real rock history, and Diane even provides a playlist at the back of the book to go along with the story as a soundtrack.

Highly recommended!

Absolutely loved it!

Start with a fabulous cast of characters..Peter, the back from the dead rock star, Rosalyn, the girl who just seems to have been born in the wrong decade, and Niles her want to be boyfriend, who is just a little 'off'..add that to a wildly entertaining story about love, fate, and soulmates..and you have Scary Modsters and Creepy Freaks..

Definitely one I will be reading again!!

This book was such a pleasant surprise for me - my first Diane Rinella. It's the story of two misfits who find their place in the world when they find each other. But the course of true love never runs smoothly and Diane Rinella is a master at keeping you guessing, right to the end. Scary Modsters is unique, intriguing and just beautiful.

Scary Monsters and Creepy Freaks is such a different kind of story (in a good way). Roselyn is a quirky, 60’s obsessed, music loving, and free living woman living in modern times. One day, she buys a signed record at a record store and things begin to change for her. She meets Niles and they find that they have similar taste in music and 60’s trivia. He is smitten, but there are a lot of twists and turns within the story that makes this anything but your typical romance story.

Peter was a rocker in the 60’s. After pushing and fighting to get a record deal, he and his band sign the dotted line not knowing that he was signing his life away…literally. How does he figure into this story as a dead rocker? That’s part of the twist within this story.

The author created an imaginative, quirky, and fun story unlike any other romance. The characters are realistic and fun. The writing is so well done that I couldn’t help researching to see what else the author wrote. There is so much emotion within the story, which tugs at the reader AND pulls the reader into the story.

This is a very difficult book to summarize without giving away the goodies. So, you’ll just have to go read it yourself. I promise, you won’t be disappointed!

*NOTICE: I received a copy of this book from eBook Discovery. This is my independent, voluntary, and honest review.* Scary Modsters is the strangest ghost story I've ever read. It's also the strangest crime and revenge story I've ever read. It is one of the oddest romances I've ever read. And it is absolutely fantastic. The sad tale of 1960's rocker Peter Lane and his wife Jane, who were both murdered, is interwoven with the modern story of Rox, misfit '60s music fangirl, and her guy Niles, an oddly unemotional lawyer. Turns out Rox is Jane reincarnated, while Peter and Niles share an even stranger connection. In order to save his future with Rox, Niles has to have Peter's help to right some serious old wrongs, and there's a time limit to getting the job done. Filled with beautifully fleshed-out characters, jam-packed with fabulous music references that had me hitting iTunes search with every chapter, and written in a quirky style from three separate POVs (Rox, Peter, and Niles), this novel is impossible to pigeonhole but easy to love.

Where do I begin? I didn't quite know what to expect when I sat down to read this book. The fun and funky cover seemed fun, but the story beneath it grabbed my heart and pulled me into two different eras. In the sixties, I fell in love with Peter Lane whose passion for music and love of life were slowly stepped on and nearly snuffed out by a very evil music producer. Thank goodness for Jane! Peter's love for Jane saved him, quite literally, from losing himself, even beyond the veil. In present day, I completely empathized with Rosalyn. Any woman who has been kicked in the teeth by love, experienced heartbreaking loss, will instantly align with her. And then there is Niles....incomplete, yet complete, and in between both Peter then, and Rosalyn now. Wow! I laughed. I cried. I wanted more. And I loved all the music that scored this epic love story of soul mates, and ultimately, redemption. This is a must-read!

Scary Modsters is such a unique and enjoyable read--what a concept! When Rosalyn meets Niles, they find they share an uncommon love for and knowledge of 1960's music and fashion. They know the same obscure songs and recording artists, and as they connect on a deeper level, they each feel they have finally, finally met someone who could be the person to help them overcome their self-perceived inadequacies. Enter the ghost of dead 60's rocker Peter Lane, who compels each of them to see who they really are and how--despite mounting difficulties--they belong together for eternity. This is not a woo-woo-ooh-ghost story, it is a poignant and intelligent and emotional story that makes us believe in all kinds of possibilities. Diane Rinella is an exceptionally talented writer with an impressive knowledge of and obvious love for music. I see she has a new book out, as well as two others, and I will be buying and reading all of them.

How much do I love this book? Let me count the ways.

This is such a great read. Along with an original storyline, it has terrific characters that Diane Rinella has skillfully brought to life ... even those who aren't exactly made out of flesh and blood. I have to admit that I didn't get all the musical references, but the ones I did often brought a smile to my face. For instance, the mention of Marc Bolan's "head on her chest," not only made me grin due to the wonderful visual it provided, but it also made me burst into song with "Get it On." Even the chapter titles made me smile. This book isn't just fun and games, though. It also takes on serious themes of friendship, loss, personal healing, family, and what it means to fall in love ... and does so without being heavy handed. I highly recommend checking it out for yourself. I suspect you'll love it too.

The story starts with Peter's death and Rosalyn finding a rare album at a music store. It goes back and and forth between what is going on with Rosalyn and Peter's life in 1966. Rosalyn meets Nile's at a bar and they hit it off. They both hit it off because they feel they are awkward in their time. Then she starts to see and talk to him on her Ouija board.
It was a good book. It was funny at parts and was a quick read. It jumped around a lot so sometimes I didnt know how much time passed between the last time Rosalyn/Peter talked. It moved a little to slowly for me and some parts there was a little to much that I really didn't need. Besides that it was a fun quick read. I received copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Unlike any book you have read before, but one you must add to the top of your TBR pile.

If you enjoy music and hearing about what happens off the stage;
If you have an appreciation for things vintage, clothing and furnishings, old movies and rock and roll; If you have ever had a best friend or believe in soul mates, this book is for you.

What do you think happens if your life is cut short and your spirit still feels you have something to accomplish? Diane Rinella has a fresh idea.

Besides the difficult and unusual romance charted in this intriguing novel, there is crime to be solved, justice to be rendered. It is a story of sorrow, loss and hope.

I personally think this book is hard to get into at first. But eventually you get to a point where you can't put the book down for the need to know what happens next. A 60s British rock star and his wife are reincarnated as two unique individuals obsessed with outdated culture and recruited to help avenge the wrongs from their previous lives so that they may live together as soulmates once again. It's quirky at the least.

Ps. I got this book forever ago (well, like a year ago) through a Goodreads First Reads contest and just got the chance to finish it.

When Rosalyn meets Neil she finds someone who can accept her for all her quirks. But can they get past both their secrets.

I absolutely loved so many things about this book. My favorite character is Neil although I enjoyed everyone. I felt so bad when I learned his secret. Pete is a much needed comedy influence. I enjoyed how the writer tied a bunch of different elements together. The supporting cast was just awesome.

If you're looking for something a little different I would recommend reading this book.
