My given name at birth was Diane Michelle Brewer, but I write under my current legal name, Diane Merrill Wigginton. I was born in Riverside, CA and moved to San Diego when I was eight. It was there that I met my now BFF Gigi Burke. We were in the 3rd grade together, but didn't really become BFF's until a few years later. Her father used to say that we were thick as thieves and that one of us could lie, and the other one would swear to it. He wasn't wrong. Gigi now lives in North Carolina , but we still talk all the time.
We moved to the Sacramento area in 2001 and enjoyed our 5 acre ranch. We are a combined family and were blessed with 5 son's and 1 beautiful daughter. In addition we currently have ten grandchildren but that could change at

I love that book series and read it over twenty years ago and have enjoyed watching the book come to life on television in the STARZ version of the series. (less)

The Day The Lights Turned on For Me

The day the lights turned on for me, as a writer was an amazing day. Before that time I had enjoyed writing poetry and special little things for my family and friends, but I had never considered myself one of "those people." You know the ones I'm referring to. Someone who had something to say, that might interest more than their mother or a few close friends.
It was March, 2013 and I had just turn Read more of this blog post »

A Compromising Position by Diane Merrill Wigginton
“Chase looked like a drowning man without a life preserver, and by the look in his eyes, he was going under for the third time.

“I knew you would be like the waters of the South Pacific Ocean.”

“I beg your pardon?”

“I liken people to different bodies of water,” he quickly explained.

“You what?”

“Each ocean has a different personality,” he said to clarify. “The Pacific Ocean is warmer and inviting, but the color is muddied in places. The Arctic Ocean is cold and very uninviting, one might even say that it is not very appealing, but it’s full of life. Then there is the South Pacific Ocean, warm, inviting, and crystal clear. It has this purity to it. Why, the coloring of the water is some of the brightest blue I’ve ever seen in my entire life. There are even places that you can see thirty meters down.”

“Bringing her eyes down again, Catherine found herself gawking at Jake’s perfectly formed, muscular chest and stomach. She felt her cheeks flush when she he noticed that his towel was still parted, showing off a very lean, muscular leg.”

“I miss you, Alice,” she whispered, “and wish you were here with me now.”

“Crickey, love, what happened here? Are you hurt?” he asked, lifting her to her feet, the surfboard leash still wrapped around her foot.

Her eyes worked their way up his torso, along the plush green towel hugging his midsection. Catherine couldn’t help staring at his well-formed abs and chest before making her way up to his concerned eyes.

“Obviously I fell,” Catherine said. “I think I got a splinter.”

“Let me see,” Jake insisted, taking her hand into his. “It’s small. I can take care of that in a snap.”

Staring up into his deep blue eyes, Catherine could feel herself drowning in the depths of them, unconsciously resting her other hand upon his dampened chest to steady herself.”
