Timothy James Brearton lives in the Adirondack Mountains with his wife and three children. He's loved thrillers and police stories for most of his life. HABIT follows broken cop Brendan Healy down the rabbit hole of a human trafficking conspiracy. DEAD GONE delivers Florida cop Tom Lange into a criminal underworld and THE KILLING TIME introduces FBI agent Shannon Ames, a country girl in the big city.

Hi Sterling,
Thanks so much for your question – it’s a tough one. What’s the criteria? I would say that Daybreak is a favorite of mine because in a way it took the most effort to complete. Buried Secrets and Truth or Dead best capture a style I aspire to: noir, fast-moving, with some humor. Dark Web, I think, works best on an emotional level. But Black Soul is a personal favorite because of what happens to the characters... See how hard this is? LOL

"Which one of your novels should I start with?"

Meeting new readers is great. Someone realizes I write mysteries and goes, “Oh! I love to read! Let me try one of yours!” And then the next thing they ask is almost always one of these two questions: “What’s your biggest seller?” Or “What’s your favorite?”

I get asked so much, I decided to come up with a list for each.

And while coming up with the best sellers was fairly easy, the second q

Gone Missing by T.J. Brearton
"This is a fantastic book. The story grabs you right from the start, all the pieces are put together wonderfully, and the end is pitch-perfect. The structure of the story is very well done, too. The changing perspectives add tremendously to the suspen" Read more of this review »

"fantastic story.

I didn’t know what to expect when I first started to read this story.
From the start I could not put it down.
It was brilliant.
I have read hundreds of books and articles this is the only time I felt moved to leave a review.
Thank you" Read more of this review »

“Life was too abundant in its diversity – it wasn’t fair to get just one.”
T.J. Brearton, No Way Back

“In the mental health field, suicide is part of the diseases of despair. Alcoholism, drug addiction, suicidal ideation. It’s a physical health condition. We don’t ‘commit’ a heart attack. Saying it associates blame, like committing a crime or a sin. The stigma can deter people from coming forward who are contemplating suicide. And also, a person may attempt a suicide, but they may not complete it.”
T.J. Brearton, Her Perfect Secret

“You only died when you outlived your usefulness. That was the nature of things. He”

“With a novel, which takes perhaps years to write, the author is not the same man he was at the end of the book as he was at the beginning. It is not only that his characters have developed--he has developed with them, and this nearly always gives a sense of roughness to the work: a novel can seldom have the sense of perfection which you find in Chekhov's story, The Lady with the Dog.
Graham Greene

Machiavelli Niccolo

“Good writers have two things in common: they prefer to be understood rather than admired; and they do not write for knowing and over-acute readers.”
Friedrich Nietzsche

“People will do anything, no matter how absurd, in order to avoid facing their own souls. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious.”
Carl Jung, Psychology and Alchemy

“We have calcium in our bones, iron in our veins, carbon in our souls, and nitrogen in our brains. 93 percent stardust, with souls made of flames, we are all just stars that have people names.”
