I have been a voracious reader all my life, mostly in mystery, romance, and science fiction/fantasy, though a college degree in English did push a lot of literary works into my list of favorites.

I began writing seriously in high school after an inspiring assignment with A Separate Peace by John Knowles. But it took getting an MFA in creative writing to kick-start my career.

Since then I've written dozens of books, won a couple of treasured awards, and enjoyed the support of readers.

I hope you'll visit my website, where you can sign up for my occasional newsletter, and also follow my author page on Facebook, https://www.facebook.com/neil.plakcy.

Hi Margaret,

Thanks for your kind words about the Have Body Will Guard series. I love writing about Aidan and Liam and I'm delighted that readers want to read about them!

It's interesting that yours is the second question I've gotten that makes it sound like Finding Freddie Venus is the last. I didn't mean it to read that way!

I have written a very rough draft of book #8 and put it aside to let it simmer for a while. That's my process-- I write the first draft, put it aside, and come back to it a few months or more later to revise. Then the book goes to my editor who often has some major comments, and I do another draft.

So I don't quite know when the book will come out-- it doesn't even have a good title yet! Probably not until next summer, as I have a bunch of other stuff in the pipeline. But don't worry, I'm not done with them yet!(less)

Staged Release of Books

One of the pieces of advice authors are given is to release all the versions of their book at once, to maximize the promotional power given by a new release. I’m going to disagree.
As an independently published author, I’m responsible for all my promotional efforts. I place the ads, I write the copy for my email newsletter, I post on my social networks. Sometimes it’s hard to come up with something Read more of this blog post »

“If a tree falls in the forest and kills your ex-wife, what do you do with the lumber?”

message 6: by Neil

Neil Plakcy Will do, Lori, once it's available at Amazon (in about a month or so). Right now it's only at the Loose Id website.

Lori K Neil, congrats on the new release! Gonna add it to Goodreads? :)

message 4: by Neil

Neil Plakcy Thanks so much! I love Liam and Aidan too and am always glad to hear that others do! The third book in the series, Teach Me Tonight, sends them on assignment together to a summer study program in Bizerte, on the Mediterranean coast, to protect a student who has been threatened. Aidan rediscovers how much he loves teaching, and Liam's friend Joey shows up... leading to all kinds of complications! It's in the copy edit stage now so should be out in the next month or two.
Best,
Neil
