Steve's New Neighbors - New Enemies Book 12 - Mark Mulle
Day 1:
Welcome back, fellow Adventurers!
As you know we are in the midst of a frightful quest. The worst that we have ever encountered… we think.
The problem is that we know almost nothing about our foe. We know almost nothing about the strange magic that has created these creatures called Illagers. We know nothing of the Evoker and have only briefly encountered the strength and persistence of the Vindicators. What we do know is terrifying enough.
Somehow, a group of Villagers split off from the Woodland Village because they believe that Villagers should rule the Overworld. Or, perhaps all of the world. I cannot say. A powerful cleric who, much like Gilda the terrible Witch we have encountered in the past, experimented with brewing and enchanting was able to access a power stronger than anything that we have seen before. Having converted others to his cause he can transform them into his minions with powers and skills that we have not yet been able to discover. He even created strange Phantoms that attack sleepless Adventurers in the night. That is what makes them so dangerous. We have no idea what we are facing or how many minions he has cast his spells upon.
I still shiver when I think of the tiny flying creatures that attacked us as we raced from the magical mansion that is his stronghold. A mansion that we are told he crafted overnight. One night! Even the best Adventurers with unlimited supplies could not have done such a thing without an army of builders. Back to those little flying things. They looked like baby Villagers with wings with a grey and purple hue but they were evil and traveled in a small group. Their cackling laughter could be heard from great distances and was enough to send a chill through my square bones. They could fly through walls and chase us beyond the mansion and well into the woods. I think that you would agree with me when I say that there are only two words to describe them. The first is creepy. The second, in some strange way, is cute. These creepy, cute little minions are unlike anything we have seen before and I would love to capture one to observe. However, the whole flying through walls things might make that impossible because no cage would ever hold them.
Except perhaps the enchanted cells that are keeping Mable and some of the other villagers trapped within the dark and spooky Mansion.
I asked the Blacksmith if we could keep some of the little flying creatures in those cells if we were able to secure the mansion for ourselves but he just groaned and walked away. I cannot blame him for thinking that such a feat would be beyond our abilities. At best, we can only hope to free our friends. Beyond that… we will be lucky to escape with our lives.
We were fortunate enough to discover the dungeon cells soon after setting foot in the mansion. The rest of the structure is a mystery to us. Down the long hallways, we caught glimpses of many other rooms. We did not venture any further inside and I am not
