The Brahman said:
On this too, they relate this ancient story.
Learn ten sacrificial priests institution truly,
The ear, the tongue, the nose, the two feet,
Hands, speech, genital organ, anus verity.
Sound, touch, color, and taste, smell be,
With the words, action, motion certainly,
Semen, urine, excrement release surely
These are the ten oblations undoubtedly.
Quarters, wind, sun, moon, earth, fire be,
Vishnu, Indra, Prajapati, Mitra, ten fires be.
Ten organs the makers of the offering be,
They the offerings are ten unquestionably;
The objects of sense, verily, the fuel be,
They are offered up into ten fires clearly.
The mind is ladle, the wealth actually,
The pure, highest knowledge is surely.
Mind, the instrument of knowledge be,
Requires knowable as its offering fully.
Mind, in body, upholder of the frame be,
The knower is the upholder of the body.
Body upholder, the Garhapatya fire be,
From that but another is produced truly,
And the mind which the Ahavaniya be,
Into this all offerings are thrown clearly.
Then the lord of speech produced be,
Lord of speech looks up to mind surely.
First, verily, are words produced really,
The mind runs after them subsequently.
The Brahman's wife said:
How speech come into existence initially?
How mind come into being subsequently?
Seeing that words uttered after they be,
Known, thought over by mind in actuality?
By what means experience but actually,
Does intelligence come to the mind truly?
Developed, does not comprehend fully?
What verily obstructs it - do tell clearly?
The Brahman said:
Apan becoming lord changes it surely,
Into the state of Apan in consequently;
That known as the movement of mind be,
And hence the mind is in need of it plainly.
But since you ask me a question surely,
Regarding speech and mind in actuality,
I will tell a dialogue between them simply,
Which clarifies it all but actually basically.
Speech, mind requested Parmatma humbly,
'Tell us which of us but superior does be!'
Lord said to speech, 'Mind superior be.'
But speech said 'I yield your desires verily.
The Brahman said:
Know, that there but two minds do be,
The immovable and the movable surely;
The immovable, verily, is but with me,
And the movable in your dominion be.
Mantra, letter, tone in your dominion truly,
That is movable superior mind definitely;
I as you came personally to speak to me,
You not speak after hard exhalations surely.
The goddess speech, dwells always verily,
Between the Pran and Apan undoubtedly;
Going with Apan wind, though impelled truly,
In consequence of being without Pran only.
She saying, 'Be pleased,’ ran to Prajapati,
Pran appeared nourishing speech truly;
So speech silent after exhalation does be,
It is always noisy or noiseless in actuality,
The noiseless is superior to speech noisy,
This speech, as
