Dedication
This book is dedicated to my Grandmother O'Rourke she passed away during the making of this book and was always my greatest supporter, she will be with me forever and I only hope she is watching over my family.
Prologue
Ella
1 Year ago:
I managed to get away from the house for the afternoon, thanks to Raven, and decided I needed to go for a walk.
I felt more comfortable with my basic knowledge in self-defence, so I could fend off an attack long enough to call for help, so I went somewhere I had never been before. Remaining hidden from others. I went into the woods surrounding the palace.
I took a casual stroll into the forest, carrying my small picnic basket, wondering where I should settle for the afternoon, when 10 minutes later I stumble into a small clearing and see so many flowers that I let out a gasp.
I love flowers of all colours, but my favourites are bluebells, tulips and lavender. I know they are all very different, but it does not take anything away from their beauty.
If this wasn’t so close to the palace it would be a good training ground,
I think to myself.
I shake my head at that thought. I am starting to sound more like Anya every day. Since the incident, she has been training harder and getting me to train too. She has this Alpha authority thing going on, whereas I am just me. Don’t get me wrong, I am no coward, but I am very girly compared to Anya.
Thinking about my Anya, she is the sister I have always wanted, and I know she loves me, but we keep our distance because her mother hates me.
I find a flat spot for my picnic, settle the blanket down and start humming to myself, while laying out my small amount of food.
I sit down to eat, taking small bites and my mind is going through boring subjects but I think of my mother and father, which causes me to sigh as we used to be so close and loved to play games and surprise my mother constantly.
Our house used to be filled with such laughter and love. When my mother first got sick, we held on to each other for support. We didn’t know what was wrong with her as her health began to deteriorate. We discovered her organs where just shutting down, as her illness had already begun to spread too far for it to be treated.
To say I was devastated did not cover how I felt, but I held strong for my parents, I knew I had to. I still remember what she said to me the night before she passed away.
"Remember Ella, no matter what, you have more kindness in your little finger, than anyone else has in their whole body.
You are stronger than anyone would know, you will do great things Ella, you just have to believe in yourself and work hard. I will send someone to watch over you."
She said all of this with a smile and pulled me down for a kiss, then asked me to leave so she could talk to my father.
I left and kissed her forehead before leaving the room. My father hugged me and went to my mother’s side. With that, I went upstairs to my room and cried. I woke up the next morning to find that she had passed away during the night, and at that precise moment my world had changed forever.
I laid down on my blanket and stared at the sky. The day is clear apart from a few clouds. I stretch my left arm out, trying to see if I can pluck the clouds from the sky, remembering it was a game I used to play with my mother.
I hear a noise coming from my right and try to pretend that I didn't hear it, but am thankful for the training I had been getting with Anya. I listen carefully to the slow approach when I suddenly hear a voice.
Excuse me, what are doing here, this is a private area?
I freeze for a minute - who does that sexy husky male voice belong to? It gives me a warm feeling all over which shocks me to my core.
I keep my eyes closed pretending not to hear him, knowing that he was getting closer, then after a few minutes I could sense that he was right next to me. But he wasn't saying anything.
Curiosity was getting the better of me and I slowly open my eyes. I see the most handsome man I have ever laid eyes on, standing before me. His complexion is creamy white with the most piercing green eyes that I have ever seen, with strong manly edges and hard lines to his face.
It takes me a minute to realise that he is staring at me, like I am at him? Suddenly I notice that we aren’t speaking.
"OK......we are both being super awkward." I think to myself.
I smile at him and his eyes widen.
"Sorry, did you say something a few minutes ago, I was dozing and didn’t hear you?" I say innocently.
He shakes his head as if trying to come back to the moment.
"Yes..umm..this is private land.. you can't be here," he says unsurely.
"I am sorry, it’s just that it is my afternoon off and I had never been here. I just wanted a picnic."
I wonder if I can get away with this and if I cannot, where can I run and escape to? Then I suddenly notice that his uniform is that of the royal guards.
Let us see what this handsome guard is made of!
Chapter One
John:
This girl, is the most beautiful girl I have ever seen. A heart-shaped face and the bluest eyes, bluer than the sky.
When I came into the woods, I had just needed to get away from my duties for an afternoon and decided to ‘patrol’ the surrounding forest, to clear my head.
That is when I heard a humming sound. It was an enchanting sound and I was drawn to it. As I followed the noise, I came into a clearing and saw it was full of flowers. I then saw a woman sitting down, then laying down and all the while she carried on humming. The humming sounded sadder as I got closer and that made the protective instincts in me come out.
I am standing near her like a stalker.
She is an unknown John. get it together.
Excuse me, what are you doing here, this is a private area?
She just carries on laying there and this annoys me so I start to walk over towards her grumbling to myself. As I approach her, I notice she isn't humming anymore but just laying still. Then I notice her beauty which stops me in my tracks.
She has a beautiful face and her figure is small but slender. I have been working at the royal palace for many years and I have never seen anyone as mesmerising as she is to me.
Then when I don’t think my heart could take anymore, she slowly opens her eyes and smiles at me, causing my eyes to widen.
We have a brief talk which goes over my head as I am still in a daze by this girl's beauty, and I move forward to sit down opposite her which makes her eyes widen.
So why did you come here, of all places?
She looks around, then back at me and I notice a lovely blush colour that covers her cheeks and I am left wondering how far down her body does that blushing extend to?
"I love the woods but I love flowers more and I heard about this clearing here and wanted to see it," she says mumbling it out and that just makes me more captivated.
"Well you’re not meant to be here but I will let it go just this once, if
