About this ebook

Boots of Peace is the third book in the Armor of God children's fantasy adventure chapter book series!

When Sir Lucian, the one-armed knight, says that few pages will receive the Boots of Peace, George Pennington and his friends work extra hard at peacemaking. While Robyn arranges help for a troubled family, George's little brother Erik struggles with Sir Michael's jousting lessons. George, however, can't stop thinking about the strange rock he once discovered in the knights' woods. He will stop at nothing to find out more about it, but he just might be missing a very important point about peace.

Based on the Scriptural Armor of God (Ephesians 6:13-17), the six-book ARMOR OF GOD series appeals to the universal and timeless quest for virtue and inner strength. The story themes and "Brother Coll's Catechism Lessons," weaved into each story, are perfect for children preparing for or who have recently made their First Confession and First Holy Communion. Early readers will appreciate the short chapters and pen-and-ink illustrations throughout.

Boots of Peace - Theresa Linden

    Dear Reader,

This third book in the Armor of God series focuses on the important virtue of peacemaking. It’s so important that Saint Paul considered it a part of our spiritual armor. And Jesus said, Blessed are the peacemakers.

As you follow George, Robyn, and Erik in this story, you will discover where peace must begin. And you will discover how the sacraments of Confession and Holy Communion can help you obtain this gift.

I pray that this story will inspire you to bring peace to everyone you know—especially to the members of your family.

    Happy reading,

    Theresa Linden

    Ephesians 6:13-17

"Therefore, put on the armor of God,

that you may be able to resist on the evil day and,

having done everything, to hold your ground.

So stand fast with your loins girded in truth,

clothed with righteousness as a breastplate, and

your feet shod in readiness for the gospel of peace.

In all circumstances, hold faith as a shield,

to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

And take the helmet of salvation and the

sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."

    Strange Rock

George Pennington gazed down at the strange rock. In all his nine years of life, he’d never seen such a thing. Curiosity grew inside him like a weed.

From a distance, it had looked like an ordinary rock jutting from the top of a grassy slope. Up close, the craftsmanship showed. Several stones had been mortared together to form a cylinder. It reminded him of a low stone table with a circle-shaped piece of wood sunk in the top. The more he thought about it, the more he had to know . . .

What reason could the knights possibly have for keeping this a secret? George said to his younger brother, Erik.

Erik squatted next to the rock, watching a big black beetle crawl across the smooth wooden top. He picked up a stick and set it in the beetle’s path. "Perchance the squires know about it, he said. And we’ll know when we’re squires."

Then I would have to wait five years to find out. George sighed. He and Erik were only pages now. They wouldn’t become squires until they turned fourteen.

Erik shrugged. I’ll have a longer wait than you will. He was one of the youngest students in Knight School for Boys and Girls.

George’s friend Robyn strolled around the strange rock. Her dark green skirt swished with every step. She’d entered Knight School at the same time as George and Erik.

While the boys hoped to become knights one day, the girls hoped to become dames. They all learned the same skills and virtues and had the same chance to earn their armor.

Robyn stood with her hands on her hips. I think this is a secret meeting place.

A meeting place? George considered the idea.

Bending closer to the strange rock, Robyn ran her hand along the wood. "What
