    A Matter of Will - Natasha Duncan-Drake

    Something Never Seen

The alpha of the pack, Edwin, was never meant to lead. He's an introvert happier with books than people who never wanted to be the guardian of a sacred spring and source of magic. But when his heroic brother died, he was left with no choice.

Enter Cal, a rebellious young mage looking for adventure. Somehow, he became pack and now the unlikely pair must make history together.

Edwin and Cal's journey is an exciting adventure full of fantasy and romance.

    Chapter 1

    Loss & Life

THE NIGHT SKY WAS AS BLACK as Edwin's mood. The scotch in his glass was not helping, even if it was laced with herbs that made his werewolf system susceptible to the alcohol. It had been a terrible two weeks.

You did your best, you know.

I could have done better, he replied and turned away from the window to look at his wife.

Aurelia was perfectly decked out like a lady of the manor should be. She had been prepared for her role in life since she was a small child and she played it well. She was the hand of law, even though she was currently seven months pregnant with their first children.

It was only the pregnancy that had kept her out of the recent mess. Given how dangerous it had been, and the fact she was carrying the heirs, she had been kept away from the action. Not that she'd liked that at the time, but it had been one order Edwin had been glad to give.

Don't be ridiculous, Aurelia said in what was her usual no-nonsense tone. Those vermin could have destroyed half the town. You did exactly what a good alpha should have, you rallied the troops and found a solution.

    People died.

Of course they died, we were infested with vampires. You can't always save everyone.

    Alasdair would have.

Aurelia just gave him a look for that.

Edwin knew he wasn't a very good alpha. It was never supposed to have been him. Werewolves nearly always had twins and Alasdair, his brother, had been twelve minutes older than him. They weren't identical twins and they had always been polar opposites, Alasdair the outgoing, confident extrovert and Edwin the introvert who preferred books to people.

Alasdair had been brought up to be the next alpha, Edwin had been allowed to do what he liked within reason. Then Alasdair had got himself killed in something as mundane as a coach crash. The heroic idiot had gone back in time and again to
