The Caffeine Diet: The Why We Eat Series, #3
By Jeffry Weiss

About this ebook
We know the two obvious reasons why people are overweight. They are: eating more and exercising less. But how about those people who go on a dedicated diet and exercise program, who cut their calories in half and exercise sixty minutes a day? Why do 95% of these people fail? What has changed so greatly in our country as to insure failure even for those who do everything right? The answer is low metabolism.
You might ask, "What has changed so drastically to precipitate obesity rates to go from 10% to 50%** in fifty short years?" (**using 1950's standards, which have been relaxed to make us seem less fat). Those are vital questions. The answer to both is fluoridation.
My extensive research, corroborated by peer-reviewed studies, has conclusively found that fluoridation adversely affects thyroid function. The thyroid gland plays a major role in controlling the metabolic rate. Fluoride slows down that rate, thereby burning fewer calories.
By following my plan you can get your thyroids working properly, keep your weight under control, take the dreams out of your scrapbook and start living them today. On my program I will show you how to ignite the fat burning code hidden in your own DNA. How? With an inexpensive ingredient sitting on your kitchen shelf right now. Caffeine!
The Caffeine Diet: sipping your way to slim has the potential to fundamentally change the way society confronts obesity, and help bring about an end to this scourge. Make no mistake, while the premise is simple, the logic is irrefutable and the results no less than startling.

A WORD OF CAUTION
Always notify your family doctor whenever embarking on a new diet. Have your vitals checked and tell him your diet plans. Make it clear that you will only be consuming 100 mg. of caffeine at a time: 5-6 times per day. But don’t expect a ringing endorsement. Doctors are not trained in diet/nutritional matters. Your doctor will tell you that caffeine raises blood pressure, when, in fact, caffeine lowers blood pressure by flushing the kidneys. (That and other myths will be debunked in the body of the text).
When you understand the reasons why you are overweight and why every diet and exercise program (not you!) has failed, you will be set free by The Caffeine Diet and cure yourself of being a slave to food, hunger, bingeing, cravings, deprivation, and obesity once and for all.
It is essential to read this book to understand how caffeine works its magic and how to use caffeine to your maximum advantage. Do not simply start taking caffeine tablets or drinking coffee. You must follow the directions carefully to gain the maximum benefits and avoid the pitfalls.
On the Caffeine Diet you will experience a total reversal of the causes and weaknesses that currently rule your life, the factors that stop you from making wise food choices, and rob you of your health and self-esteem. There are no charts, tables, list, or monstrous exercise regime. You will not have to rely willpower or change your lifestyle. This is fundamental to our program. We, as a people, do not have the time or flexibility to make our lives over. And you won’t have to on the Caffeine Diet.
OUR PROMISE
The information and direction provided herein will empower you to take control of not only your appetite but your life. You will reach your ideal weight (and maintain that), and regain your health and your self-esteem.
Make no mistake, while the premise is quite simple, the results are no less than amazing. Have faith. I know that you have gotten your hopes up before, and that even with all your willpower, you have failed. Of course you failed, you were relying on information that was thirty years old, left-over facts that were re-heated and served up once again after never having worked in the first place. On the Caffeine Diet you will have the metabolism of a thin person. When you have the correct metabolism, you cannot fail. It’s the only thing that’s been holding you back.
Nothing new has been said in regards to diet in three decades. And while professionals
argue over the percentage of fats, protein, and carbohydrates in the diet, obesity rates have gone from 10% of the population to 50% in just 50 years.
The purveyors of magic elixirs, severely restricted calorie diets, blood type diets, low-carb diets, high-protein diets have no clue as to why people cannot lose weight and keep it off, or how to end that addiction. Their advice and findings are based on limited research and faulty logic.
On the Caffeine Diet you will learn how and when to use caffeine to its maximum advantage. Further, with your appetite under control, we will provide you with a dietary program based on 6 ½ million years of evolution, not three decades of antidotal evidence.
Until now, you have relied on health care experts who were anything but, and sent off on a wrong direction, by yourself, with incorrect information, no support, and no inspiration. You will not fail on this program. It is impossible to fail when you duplicate the metabolism of a thin person and the dietary guidelines followed by the healthiest people in the world. And we will show you who they are and what they eat and how they live.
Be prepared to take out that size six dress from the back of your closet, or those size thirty-two waist pants from mothballs. Don’t give up even if you have failed many times in the past. Begin by reading this book and get on the program today. I can assure you that dependence on food as your primary source of euphoria is a thing of the past.

INTRO: WHY DIETS DO NOT WORK
Caffeine is the secret of health and long life that Ponce De Leon searched for – Dr. Jeffry Weiss
Conventional Diets
It is impossible to lose weight by going on a conventional diet. As soon as you begin to lose weight, the body thinks you are in starvation mode and slows down the metabolic rate. A person who maintained a steady weight while eating 2400 calories, and then goes on a failed diet, will gain weight eating only 1200 calories! Most people, dependent on diet alone, would have to consume eight hundred calories per day, or less, to lose weight.
It is impossible to get enough essential vitamins and minerals in eight hundred calories to maintain a healthy, functional immune system. A plethora of diseases would follow. One cannot consume enough calcium and magnesium to build bone and thereby almost assuredly would undergo osteoporosis. Food cravings and bingeing would overwhelm even the strongest resolve. Without certain nutrients, anxiety and depression are assured.
Your Metabolic Rate
You might ask, Why is our metabolic rate is so low now that we can’t possibly succeed on a diet? What has changed so drastically in the last fifty years to precipitate obesity rates to go from 10% of the population in 1950 to 50% of the population in 2007?
That is a fair question. The answer is fluoridation.
Fluoride
Fluoridation of our water supply is the key contributor to the greatly increased rate of obesity in the past 50 years. It is no coincidence that fluoridation of our water supply began in 1950, when only one in ten people were obese. Today, 50 years after
fluoridation began, obesity rates have reached 50%** of the population (** Using 1950’s standards, which have been relaxed to make us seem less fat).
Fluoridation of our water supplies significantly inhibits DNA synthesis and repair enzymes. Even as little as 1 part per million of fluoride inhibits DNA repair activity by 50%. Animal studies found that in 1 part per million, fluoride has caused chromosome damage.
Thyroid hormones rely on iodine, which is in the same group of four elements as fluorine. Fluorine displaces iodine in the body, which leads to serious problems with the thyroid gland. Children can be particularly affected if their mother was short of iodine during pregnancy.
Fluoridation affects thyroid function. The thyroid gland has a major role in controlling the metabolic rate. Fluoride slows down that rate, thereby burning fewer calories during the day. Fluoridation of our water supply is a key contributor to the greatly increased rate of obesity in the past 50 years. It is no coincidence that fluoridation of our water supply began in 1950, when only one in ten people were obese. Today, 50 years after fluoridation began, one in two people are obese.
Fluoridation is the generic name for the process of treating our water supplies. Technically the process is Aluminum fluoridation. Yes, aluminum, as in one of the primary causes of Alzheimer’s disease! Autopsies of the brains of people who have died due to Alzheimer’s disease showed a direct causal relationship between the absorption of aluminum (either through food or environmental exposure) and the disease. To reach the brain, aluminum must pass the blood-brain barrier, an elaborate structure that filters the blood before it reaches this vital organ. Elemental aluminum does not readily pass through this barrier, but certain aluminum compounds, such as aluminum fluoride, do. Many municipal water supplies are treated with both aluminum sulfate and aluminum fluoride, and these two chemicals readily combine with each other in the blood. Moreover, aluminum fluoride, once formed, is very poorly excreted in the urine.
The obesity epidemic that is plaguing the US, the UK and other industrialized countries is unequivocally linked to fluoride in drinking water. Dr Barry Durrant-Peatfield says that there is no doubt that fluoride is enzyme disruptive and one thing it affects is thyroid hormones
, adding that People end up with an under-activity of the thyroid gland.
And children may be particularly susceptible to obesity if their mothers drank fluoridated water while pregnant.
Exactly how does the environment affect the thyroid?
We now have substantial research to demonstrate that environmental chemicals have a direct impact on the thyroid gland. It's clear that PCBs and other industrial petrochemical toxins can lower thyroid function, as well as other pollutants such as chlorine, bromide, and fluoride. Almost all these elements and dangers reach us via our water supply. And the primary contributor to an under-active thyroid is fluoride.
Since the thyroid produces hormones that manage your metabolism, anything that affects your thyroid will ultimately affect your metabolism. In fact, there's evidence that toxins boost the excretion of thyroid hormones, leaving you with less of this hormone to control your metabolism - and a decreased ability to burn fat. The truth is your thyroid plays a huge role in weight control, and in determining your metabolic rate.
The question is not if, but how much is today's obesity epidemic linked to the harmful effects of environmental toxins on metabolism. I've seen so many patients
struggle with their weight, only to have the pounds melt off when we addressed their thyroid problems.
Now here is the most important question. How do we address those thyroid problems? Allopathic medicine (mainstream medicine) uses pharmaceutical drugs to treat thyroid malfunction. These drugs have serious side effects and do not boost the metabolic rates to optimal levels and hold it there all day. Pharmaceutical meds are one size, fits all. Further, these drugs are known to produce anxiety, depression, debilitating migraine headaches, fuzzy thinking, memory problems, etc. They are not tailored to individual needs or individual metabolisms, or changes to metabolism that happen over time. Many doctors can miss the subtle signs of thyroid problems, and conventional medicine often treats low thyroid function with inadequate, one-size-fits-all drugs like Synthroid. Thyroid dysfunction requires you to become an active partner in your care.
Following is a list of the symptoms of a low thyroid function:
fatigue
sluggishness
trouble getting up in the morning
depression
dry skin
dry hair
constipation
fluid retention
menstrual problems and PMS
hair loss
cracked or chipping fingernails
low sex drive
weight gain
muscle aches
cramps
Yes, a lot of those symptoms are pretty common and vague - which is one reason why thyroid dysfunction often goes undetected.
Other factors that can affect thyroid deficiencies
Now let's talk about some of those other factors. For example, food allergies, like sensitivities to gluten and other foods, also negatively affect thyroid function - and are frequently undiagnosed. Likewise, deficiencies in nutrients important to good thyroid function - like selenium, zinc, omega-3 fatty acids, iodine and tyrosine - can also trigger thyroid problems. We will review these and more in the following chapters. With all of these factors that can affect your thyroid, it's clear that we need a new approach to the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid disease in order to regain control of our appetites and maintain a healthy, attractive, desired weight.
There's no doubt that thyroid disease is on the rise. From the research I've reviewed and the patients I've seen in the last 20 years, it's clear to me that the thyroid gland is sensitive to many different influences - your diet, your lifestyle, and the world around you.
So, it's not surprising that as we eat more toxic foods and are increasingly exposed to pollution, petrochemical and industrial wastes, and heavy metals that thyroid problems have skyrocketed. In fact, more than 80% of women and men in the United States have thyroid dysfunctions - and half of them don't even know it!
Correcting a dysfunctional thyroid
Know that the problem can be fixed . . . simply. By following the program here you can get your thyroid working properly, keep your weight under control, and start feeling better today. And you will be in total control of your thyroid, metabolism, and weight loss goals. On my program I will teach you how you can ignite the fat burning code hidden in your own DNA.
You cannot eliminate all external or internal causes of an under active thyroid. What you can do is eliminate the most invasive and prevalent, and then follow the (very) simple program presented here.
Tap water can make you fat
Medical experts confirm that tap water can make people fat and is fuelling rising obesity levels. For the past fifty years, fluoride has been pumped into our tap water to help keep teeth healthy. And now major medical institutions confirm that the toxin causes worrying health side-effects including hypothyroidism, a medical disorder affecting the thyroid gland which controls weight gain.
––––––––
––––––––
Can’t you simply stop drinking tap water? It’s not that simple. Even if you have a good filtration system for the drinking water in your home you still absorb the equivalent of eight 8 ounce glasses of water every time you take a shower. Further, that would still not address the other toxins in our environment that affect the thyroid or water drank outside the home. And no, bottled water - unless it employs activated charcoal, reverse osmosis and distillation – is beneficial.
The four ways to lose weight
In the face of this research, what can we do? First, let’s be clear about the ways there are to lose weight. For decades, doctors and health care professionals have been telling people that there are only two ways to lose weight: eat fewer calories and exercise more. Well there are, in fact, four ways to lose weight, not two.
When people are confronted by those two unsuccessful ways, the choice for most is neither, and they give up before even starting. The four ways are:
1) Exercise
2) Eat fewer calories
3) Boost metabolic rate which raises
core temperature, causing more calories to be burned (thermogensis)
4) Promote fat burning (lipolysis), predominately from the abnormal stores of fat
The answers to all our questions
Now, what if there were a substance that boosted the metabolic rate to pre-1950s level, that was both thermogenic and lipolytic? And what if this substance also triggered the release of a hormone (CCK) that signaled the brain to shut down the eating process, protected against Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, liver disease, and breast cancer, improved learning and retention, sped up reaction time (think driving on crowded roads), reduced the risk of diabetes by 30%, enabled one to work out 20% longer and more intensely, think more cogently and fluently, multi-task more effectively, feel happier (moderate depression), be more self-confident, eat less, and even act as a powerful antioxidant?
How does that sound? It sounds like coffee! And there’s still more. Caffeine enhances the effects of serotonin, which, as you know, improves mood. Caffeine tells your cells to ignore the chemical adenosine, which promotes sleep, and it increases dopamine, which lifts mood and has been shown to prevent depression.
Caffeine improves sleep quality as well as overcomes fatigue, combats jet lag, elevates intelligence and memory, enhances creativity, improves mood and dispels
Boredom while increasing sociability, and slows aging while counteracting disease. Indeed, caffeine appears as an elixir of life to the informed user.
What now?
So, how can one use caffeine to its maximum advantage? In the course of this book we will address every step of the program and answer any questions and concerns that you might have. I do not wish to disparage other health care provides. Yet allopathic (MDs) doctors receive only one course in nutrition during their entire careers. They are taught to heal the sick, not prevent people from getting sick. I have studied diet and nutrition for over 40 years; that does not qualify me to do brain surgery.
If you have the same metabolic rate as a thin person, then you can follow a healthy eating plan (not a diet!), which will be outlined for you in detail later in this book, and lose the weight. With this program you will get thin and stay thin. There will be no dieting. As we have alluded to, diets simply do not work in the long run.
The dangers of following a conventional diet
Fat is stored in three areas of the body. First, structural fat around the joints and organs; second, normal fat reserves throughout the entire body; and third, abnormal fat reserves, which are known as the "problem areas. In women, these problem areas generally include the hips, thighs, buttocks, waist, stomach, and behind the upper arms; in men, the upper chest, back, neck, waist, and stomach. These abnormal fat reserves (the problem areas) are never released no matter how few calories you eat. The essential fat is the last to go on regular diets, and will only be released after all the normal fat reserves are exhausted. These reserves are a survival mechanism and will only be released after ninety days of starvation; as a last resort so that the person does not die.
On conventional diets the weight you lose is never the fat in the problem areas. You actually lose water, structural fat, and muscle. The body stores essential fat in what is, for us, the problem areas. The weight that is stored in the problem areas is virtually impossible to lose under normal circumstances.
On the Caffeine Diet you will lose the abnormal fat. You will have no food cravings and you will not feel deprived. You will not need willpower. Most importantly, you will lose very little, if any, structural fat and muscle. This means your body will be reshaped. It will look as if you have had liposuction. You will not lose the structural fat that you need for good health.
The limitations of Exercise
Exercise is a very important part of a healthy life style. Although exercise is encouraged, you do not need to exercise to attain results. Notice, I say attain results.
You will attain quicker and more impressive results if you do exercise. I have gone to the gym since I was a kid and continue to this day. Exercise triggers the release of endorphins which improve mood, boosts the immune system, bring on a euphoric state, and burns calories. I fully support all forms of exercise. However, you could exercise two hours a day along with dieting and still not lose the weight. Why? It just does not burn enough calories. Eat lunch at a fast food establishment: a cheese burger, fries, and a soda (2,000 calories approx.). Okay. How long would you have to walk (at a brisk pace) to burn off these calories? 10 minutes? Half hour? One hour? Two hours? Not even close. The answer is 7 1/3 hours (assuming your weigh 160 lbs.).
You need to exercise for all of the aforementioned reasons, but you can’t rely simply on that. It will not work. You need to increase the metabolic rate: the rate at which the body, of its own accord, burns fat.

Is obesity genetic?
Why should I do all the work if obesity is genetic? There’s nothing I can do that will ever make me thin. Well, if it is, you’re off the hook . . . right? Wrong. It’s not!
So, can I prove that obesity is habitual, not genetic?
You bet I can. New research shows that mothers-to-be can reduce the risk that their babies will develop obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes by simply monitoring their own diet during (not in the months and years before pregnancy – which would do even more to protect the unborn child from the afore-mentioned aliments). A recent study from the National Birth Defect Prevention Study found that a mother’s nutrition and exercise patterns during pregnancy influence the long-term health of the baby by shaping the baby’s metabolism. Metabolism includes everything that allows your body to turn food into energy: from the organ systems that process food and waste, to the energy-producing chemical reactions that take place inside every cell.
A mother’s body influences her baby’s metabolism in many levels: the way organs develop, how appetite signals get released in the brain, how genes are activated, even the metabolic chemistry inside a baby’s cells. Research shows that the environment of the womb helps determine how a baby’s metabolism is put together, or programs it for later health. The science of fetal programming is now widely accepted.
Doctors used to think of body fat as nothing more than inert insulation, but they know now that fat is an active tissue that releases hormones and plays a key role in keeping metabolism running. The amount of weight gain is critical. Women who gain too much weight are likely to have large babies. Weight gain should come slowly. Now here’s where current diet takes over from genetic disposition. Normal weight women (BMI (body mass index) of 19.8 – 25) should gain no more than 25-35 pounds during pregnancy. Overweight women (BMI of 26-29) should gain no more than 15-25 pounds during pregnancy. Obese women (BMI greater than 29) should gain no more than 10-15 pounds during
Many women see pregnancy as a time they can eat anything, and that it will not affect the health of their babies. That has now been proven to be wrong. Obese women may pass along their obesity gene, but those genes will not be expressed (turned on) if the mother eats and exercises properly and gains minimal weight during pregnancy.
In a ground-breaking experiment, researchers began with pairs of fat yellow mice known as agouti mice. So called because they carry a particular gene - the agouti gene – making the rodents ravenous and prone to cancer and diabetes. Most of their offspring are identical to their parents. However, by feeding the mother mouse a diet rich in methyl donors (small chemical clusters that can attach to a gene and turn it off) starting just before conception the babies were born lean, with no predisposition toward cancer or diabetes. These methyl molecules are common in the environment and are found in many foods. Stay tuned for the release of my new book: The Methyl Diet: turning off the hunger gene.
After being consumed by the mothers, the methyl donors worked their way into the developing embryos’ chromosomes and onto the critical agouti gene. The mothers passed along the agouti gene to the children, but thanks to the methyl-rich pregnancy diet, they added to the gene a chemical switch that dimmed the gene’s deleterious effects. A subtle nutritional change in the pregnant mother rat had a dramatic impact on the gene expression of the baby!
The science lies in the fact that while genes pass down traits, genes themselves need instructions for what to do, and where and when to do it. These instructions are found not in the letters of the DNA itself, but in an array of chemical markers know collectedly as the epigenome. The epigenetic switches and markers help switch on or off the expression of particular genes.
Fact: the epigenome is just as
