Preface
Writing is a passion that speaks in the minds of writers. It commands them to put words together when they sit back. Talent is inborn. It is not new to find a child telling a story at childhood. The talent I saw in a story written by the son of Lumumba Stanislaus Kau-di Aping and his drawing which his father used on Skype didn’t surprise me. I thought of how to bring such children up.
Apuk Ayuel, the poet whom I met then gave me an idea of starting a book club. You will realize that South Sudan needs literature on arriving in Juba. Books by South Sudanese are inadequate and book trade is incompetent. Most of the writers prefer regional and international publishing companies due to expensiveness of book publishing in Juba. Our writers belong to a hated community. A community which is denied freedom of speech. Most of them engage in auxiliary jobs besides writing. This has made writing to be an incompetent career.
I argue that this practice contributes to backwardness. Books mean education. Lack of interest in our own books is killing South Sudanese Literature when there are great writers who are instead locked in despair.
Listen to the hooting tree in the middle of the forest. It may have a vital message to convey. Speak with the whistling bird in the middle of the night. It may be your companion. Navigate along the swollen river bank. You may find life there. Listen to the voice inside you. It is the engine which drives you towards achievement.

Friendship Speaks
Sweet voice mentioned my name
It was not another flatter for losing touch
Dreams rented my mind
I realized I would associate with someone
This association blended with purity of heart
Trust in you made me stop befriending more
You and your advice are a total satisfaction
There was a substitute of a flatter
From a beauty better than the queen of the planet
My eyes opened eying this beauty blended with manners so magnanimous
Crocheted with bravery
Not one acrimonious about us
Trust in you made me stop befriending more
You and your advice are a total satisfaction
Sweat dried the soonest
Your soul has hammered friendship in my mind
Clipped with benevolence
It has ringed me and its chains
