Migrant workers on Khalifa International Stadium and the
surrounding Aspire Zone, one of the main venues for the
2022 World Cup, have been subjected to a range of exploitative practices. This includes high recruitment fees for which many took out loans; false promises about the pay and type of work on offer; passport confiscation; dirty and cramped accommodation; and threats for complaining about their conditions. Some were subjected to forced labour.
