Title Digital Learning Object: It’s Effect on Student Performance in Science

This study is all about the investigation of the effect of using digital learning object on student performance in Science subject. More specifically, it looked into the following concerns, to wit: 1) the profile of the respondents which includes: age, sex, grade level and ethnicity; 2) the effect of using digital learning object on the performance of the student in Science subject in terms of their attitude, student participation and homework.
The descriptive-survey method was employed in this study, and descriptive means that surveys are made in order to discover the effect of using Digital learning objects like power point presentation, video clips, video tape and Microsoft office word to the student performance in Science. The researchers used questionnaires, observations, interviews, students' class work and other student outputs for this study. The questionnaires were administered before and after using technology in teaching Science.
For the purposes of data description and analysis, different statistical measures were used as follows: frequency (f), percentage (%) and weighted mean (WM) to determine and describe the effect of digital learning object on performance of the student in Science subject in terms of attitude, student participation and homework and lastly on how the pupils work independently using digital learning objects.
There were thirty (30) students covered in this study from grade IV-VI who were identified through purposive random sampling in Ditawini Elementary School Dinalungan Aurora.
Based on the description and analysis of data, the following are the salient findings of this study:
1. The student respondents generally belong to the age bracket of 9 -13 years old; who are practically in Grades IV to VI. Most of them are male, regarding their ethnicity most of them were Igorot.
2. Table 2.1 shows the effects of digital learning object in the performance of the pupils in terms of their attitude wherein it revealed that most of the pupils have fun and enjoyed using digital learning object they become motivated to engage in activities, they feel excited when their teacher uses digital learning object in teaching science, they easily understood the lesson when they see and heard it and they participate actively during science subject.
3. Table 2.2 shows the effect digital learning object to the performance of the pupils in terms of student participation in Science subject wherein it revealed that most of the students participate actively because of the interested topic presented, they cooperate with their group mates during activity and follow certain procedures properly, they always happy and excited to do the task, they are eager to learn new things during science class and easily understood the concept because of the digital learning object presented like power point presentation, short video clips and voice recorded activity.
4. Table 2.3 shows the effect of digital learning object to the performance of the pupils in terms of doing their homework wherein it implied that most of the respondents become serious in doing their homework at home because of what they learned in school, Science homework open opportunity to learned more things, they feel comfortable in doing their science homework, they do their assignment on time and increase their eagerness to do their homework at home.
