Social studies textbook

The purpose of this qualitative study is to evaluate how the aesthetic value is handled in social studies textbooks. In this study, document analysis was used. Firstly, the sections devoted to the teaching of aesthetic value in the social studies curriculum were examined. After the social studies curriculum was reviewed it was found that only two of the textbooks (the 5th and 7th grades social studies textbooks) contained sections that taught aesthetic value. The findings of the research indicate that values education has a significant place in the social studies curriculum (2018), but the teaching of aesthetic value is very scarce in social studies textbooks. Social studies textbooks include photographs of aesthetic objects, but do not include discussions about the aesthetic value of objects in teaching processes. Aesthetic value is being taught by giving only examples of historical buildings or historical relicts. Aesthetic value has not presented in the context of creativity, beauty, thinking of beauty, meaning of beauty, creation of beauty, or the emotional and intellectual basis of beauty. At the end of this study, it has been concluded that social studies textbooks are insufficient in terms of aesthetic value teaching for the aforementioned reasons. Furthermore, suggestions have given about how aesthetic value can be taught through textbooks.

The purpose of this paper is to examine social studies textbooks to investigate the use of poetry in the social studies textbooks in Turkey. This paper also examines whose poets have been represented in the textbooks. The authors applied content analysis to evaluate social studies textbooks. Content analysis is a research method that uses a set of procedures to make valid inferences from text. It is also described as a method of analyzing written, verbal or visual communication messages. Content analysis allows the researcher to test theoretical issues to enhance understanding of the data. The results showed that very few poems were used in the social studies textbooks. The finding of the study revealed that poems in the 4 th grade textbooks relate to topics that were interest to students the nature and humanism. Poem about Şavşat, described the beauty of Turkish homeland in the four seasons. Vetch Field poem in the 5 th grade social studies textbook, described a bride who has to work in the field. This poem seems to be written for girls since the language indicates 'girls' several times. It emphasizes how hard to be a bride in the vetch field. Remaining poems were used to promote students' patriotic values. These poems emphasizes flag, homeland, heroism etc.

İçerisinde bulunduğumuz çağın hızla gelişen ve büyük öneme sahip olan istihdam alanlarından birisi de turizm sektörüdür. Bu sektör birçok ülke için büyük bir gelir ve tanıtım kaynağıdır. Devletler “gelişmiş” ya da “gelişmekte olan” diye tabir edilen tanımlarına bakmaksızın büyük bir ilgi ve istekle yatırımlar da, reklamlar da bulunarak turizmde ki cazibelerini artırmaya çalışmaktadırlar. Yapılan yatırımlar sayesinde ülkeler daha çok yabancı turisti topraklarına çekme fırsatı bulabilmektedirler. Tabii turizm sektörünün gelişimi sadece dışa dönük yatırımlarla sınırlanamaz. İçe dönük, kendi vatandaşını bu alanla ilgili bilinçlendirme çalışmalarında da bulunması gerekir. Ülke insanına turizm kavramının önemini öğretmenin ve bilincini vermenin en güzel ve etkili yolu ise eğitimdir. Eğitim yoluyla bireyler istendik yönde davranış değişiklikleri gösterebilmektedirler. Eğitim ortamının önemli araçlarından birisi ise ders kitaplarıdır. Turizm kavramı ders kitapları materyalinin içeriğinde doğru ve etkili biçimde kullanılırsa yeni yetişen nesiller sektöre karşı daha duyarlı ve bilinçli bir bakış açısı kazanabilirler. Bu çalışmada, Talim ve Terbiye kurulu tarafından 2013-2014 eğitim öğretim yılı için onaylanmış Türkiye’deki ortaokullarda okutulmakta olan Sosyal Bilgiler dersi beşinci sınıf ders kitaplarında yer alan turizm olgusunun hem görsel hem de metinsel olarak ne kadar işlendiğini ve kullanıldığını belirlemek amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden doküman analizi tekniğinden faydalanılmıştır. İncelenen kaynaklar ortaokul beşinci sınıf seviyesinde kullanılmakta olan iki farklı yayınevine ait sosyal bilgiler ders kitaplarıdır.
