Hygiene plays a crucial role in healthy living. According to WHO, in 2015 about 39%(2.9 billion people) have hygienic sanitation services. The word hygiene first typify one`s personal hygiene rather than environmental hygiene. The personal hygiene denotes bathing, brushing, eating, excreting,etc., Of these, bathing is an essential thing. The grime and the sweat that produces heat by their routine work and due to bodily exercise. When these grimes remain intact, it blocks the sweat and sebaceous glands which results our bodily waste to hinder blood which further leads to several disorders. So it is essential to gain knowledge in a daily bath. Our traditional people had proposed many procedures in bathing, but we are unaware of these practices. In the current scenario by using several commercially available soaps, people are facing various dermatological problems. By using products of natural origin, we can avoid them. This paper aimed at improving knowledge among people in scientific reasons in an oil bath, various natural products alternative to soaps, their activities, the mechanism involved in an oil bath, food habits on the day of oil bath etc..,

Post Harvest Handling and Processing of Unexploited fruits Specific to Goa

Goa is India's smallest state in terms of area and the fourth smallest by population. It is located in South West India in the Konkan region and is bounded by the state of Maharashtra to the north, and by Karnataka to the east and south, while the Arabian Sea forms its western coast. It has a rich flora and fauna, owing to its location on the Western Ghats range, which is classified as a biodiversity hotspot.
The main food crops of Goa are Rice, Pulses like Cowpea (alsando) and Ragi. coconuts, cashewnuts, arecanuts, sugarcane and fruits like Mangoes Jackfruits, pineapples, mangos and bananas are the main cash crops. Goa's forests are rich with medicinal plants. Goa is rich in diverse minor fruits like sapota, bread fruit, Ambada, Bimbla, churna, carambola, chivra, Jagoma, karonda, kokum, rose apple, wax apple, Malay rose apple, Mattom, Jamun etc. Processing in Goa is confined to that of Jack fruit, Mangoes as Mango leather, juice, Kokum as juice or its dried rind as ‘sol’ and used as a souring agent in Goan fish curry. Cashew fruits are processed as the local ‘Feni’. Most of these products are done at cottage level by women or by few SHGs. A vast potential exists as to the processing of these minor fruits. This paper explores the various unexploited minor fruits of Goa, their medical and nutritive value and their potential in the processing industry to enhance livelihood security to Goan farmers.

In Siddha system of medicine various polyherbal formulations proved to be effective for the treatment of various respiratory ailments including asthma. poly herbal formulation employed in asthma are proved to provide symptomatic relief and further recurrence of disease also. Vellerukkam poo mathirai is one of such combination drug containing calotropis gigantea flower, piper nigrum, schizigium aromaticum which is indicated for chronic asthma conditions. For supporting the efficacy of the formulation in asthma explained based on the review of the pharmacological activity of individual drugs used in this formulation. It will be supportive data for the further study on this formulation.

Fairness evaluating effects of prescriptions is
indispensably importance in disease treatment. The development
of Intelligence Technologies nowadays makes it realizable for a
moderation of subjective prescription evaluations in medicine. In
this paper, we present an application of Self-Organizing Map
(SOM) to visualization of herbal prescription effects in Oriental
Medicine (OM). The application is used to estimate influence of
herbal ingredients prescribed for patients who have several
concurrent diseases. Inputs to the SOM are herbal treatment
prescriptions, and an output is a map that shows disease states
that can be influenced by these prescriptions. Training data is
133 standard prescriptions with 221 popular herbs in 17 disease
groups collected from oriental medical text books by experienced
doctors. First, the prescription problem in OM is described. Next
the system structure and implementation of a proposed system
are shown. Finally the visualization abilities of the proposed
system verified by experienced doctors are presented

Mupoora chendurum was prepared as per the method mentioned in
the Siddha literature. In the present study Raw and purified drugs of
Lingam (Cinnabar–Red sulphide of Mercury), Pooram (Mercury
subchloride), Rasa chendurum (Mercury sulphide) and the final
product mupoora chendurum were characterized by using the modern
techniques FTIR, ICPOES, SEM and Anti microbial study. FTIR
analysis showed the broad peaks at 3584, 3524  and 1612 cm-1. Peak
at ~2319 cm-1 and ~2395 cm-1 was assigned to C-H and C-H
(methoxy compounds) stretching vibration correspondingly. Absence
of Organic contaminations indicates the proper incineration process.
Trace element analysis by ICP-OES indicated,  absence of heavy
metals Lead, Copper, Cadmium and Arsenic. Mercury concentration
was under acceptable limit (0.97 ppm) at prescribed dose. Microbial
load of the preparation has the highest antibacterial activity against
Bacillus,  Streptococcus  and  Vibrio  species, medium activity against
Salmonella typhi  and  Staphylococcus  and considerably low activity
against E.  coli. SEM analysis indicates agglomeration of the particles
and aggregated particle size of 83.3 nm.
