In this article, the authors explore how, at the level of a Baurci village approaches the solution of environmental problems and improvement of the village. The results of consultation with inhabitants in the process of decision-making by the authorities and an example of cooperation with NGO in the implementation of the project.

The article argues we can develop and achieve better outcomes for public spaces by involving stakeholders of places and spaces in the research process, particularly by developing and applying a model for data collection and analysis based on Appleton’s prospect and refuge theory. This research aims to help planners understand factors relating to reports of fear of crime by presenting findings from a mixed-method study revealing international and domestic university students displayed different perceptions of safety in the regional Australian city of Bendigo. Data include questionnaires completed by 156 students, self-recorded walks
and auto-photo-elicitations completed at night in selected sites. Findings show fear of crime is a concern students who were in the central business district which led to their avoidance of certain spaces. Varying presence/absence of people and level of prospect and opportunity for refuge affected students’ feelings of safety at night.

This paper reports co-design interventions with a rural community of practice at Inner Mongolia, who are keepers of a vernacular architecture practice dated back to 2000BC. The research aims to explore a social innovation model to achieve sustainable village regeneration in China. We report four days community engagements with tools and activities designed and implemented as a result of collaboration between three design researchers, local NGOs and the villagers. We describe interventions bases on a framework of co-design that envision and enact community's imagination for social innovation. We also report issues addressed by NGOs and design researchers at two research forums subsequently held in Shanghai and Beijing on the topics of community development and village regeneration. The importance of rural planning in Turkey for the politicians and planners has increased considerably since the announcement of the Metropolitan Law in 2012. According to this law, the borders and authorities of local governments have been enlarged including districts and villages. Local governments have become responsible to bring all urban services and conduct planning activites in all the places within its borders. Local governments in Turkey whose lack of experience on rural planning are unquestinable have embraced Village Design Guides as a sole planning tool to manage the planning issues in rural areas. However Village Design Guides can not be enough to manage the development of the rural areas unless it is relationally developed with the other planning tools. This article aims to contribute to rural plannning literature and practice in Turkey as it introduces new planning tools in rural planning by fo-cusing on the Erdek Yukarıyapıcı Village Design Guide Project. The first part of the article introduces new discussions within rural planning literature, different rural planning tools and experiences in other countries In the light of the discussions in the first part, the design principles, approach, methodology and the content of the project, have been defined for the Erdek Yukarıyapıcı village in the second part. Socio-spatial analysis of the village takes place in the second part too. Following part is about proposed planning tools which are called Village Design Framework, Village Design Guide and Action Projects respectively In this part the content of these tools are explained in detail. The last part a discussion takes place on the potentials of the proposed planning tools for further rural planning practices in Turkey. Yasa ile birçok yerel yönetimin, yetki ve sorumluluk alanları genişlemiş, sınırları içindeki tüm alanlara kent-sel hizmetler götürmekle ve plan yapmakla yükümlü olmuşlardır. Kırsal alanlara ilişkin planlama deneyimi olmayan yerel yönetim-ler için kırsal alandaki gelişmeleri yönlendirme konusunda imar planları dışında Köy Tasarım Rehberleri ise neredeyse tek araç-tır. Ancak mekânsal düzenleme araçlarından sadece biri olan Köy Tasarım rehberlerinin farklı tür araçlarla birlikte düşünülmedikçe başarılı olması zordur. Bu makalenin amacı; kırsal alan planlama-sında köy tasarım rehberlerinin yerini tartışmak, Erdek Yukarıya-pıcı Köyü özelinde geliştirilen farklı mekânsal düzenleme araçları üzerinden, kırsal alanda planlama süreçlerini tartışmaya açmak, böylece de Türkiye'de kırsal alan planlaması literatür ve pratiğine katkıda bulunmaktır. Makalede ilk olarak kırsal planlamadaki eğilim-ler ele alınmış köy tasarım rehberleri ve kırsal mekana müdahale araçları farklı ülke deneyimleri üzerinden aktarılmıştır. Daha sonra, Türkiye'de kırsal yerleşme planlamasına ilişkin mevzuat ve yaklaşım-lar aktarılarak Yukarıyapıcı Köyü için kırsal mekanı düzenleme araç-ları ve planlama ilkelerine ilişkin öneriler tanımlanmıştır. Bunu takip eden bölümde bu bulgular ışığında Yukarıyapıcı Köyü için geliştirilen Köy Tasarım Şeması, Köy Tasarım Rehberi ve Eylem Projeleri olmak üzere farklı mekansal düzenleme araçları ayrıntıları ile aktarılarak, bu araçlar arasındaki ilişki ortaya konmuştur. Art is an expression of thoughts. It is a way to represent the socio-behavioral characteristics & knowledge of a particular group or society that shapes culture in a particular way, wherein artists as an individual or group showcase the ability to manipulate the art form and its experiences by every individual perceiving it.
Thus Art, Culture with Artist forms a significant whole in shaping society.
There also seems to be a strong similarity an overlap between art and public space which is a space for people so is the art of creative expressions resulting in the cultural identity of the space. There is a continuous exchange of expression that triggers an act of cohesion happening at the same moment of time, forming a dialogue and thus
shaping the spaces around it.
In Present scenario there is a rising need to sensitize visitors towards aesthetic and cultural norms that govern all the creative personas by creating an interdisciplinary approach for experimentation and
innovation. This can be done via reviving defunct art settlements as they showcase a cultural connection with the setting.
The crux of the project here aims at ‘Development of Andretta artist's village near Palampur in Himachal Pradesh, India’ with a focus on reviving its lost cultural attribute of being an artist settlement. The idea
here aims at creating a global meeting platform for artists, art lovers from all the creative personas to interact, learn and showcase their work to the outside world. This idea can be efficiently perceived via development of Andretta village with an emphasis on social, economic
and cultural growth, which further provides a progressive growth pattern to the village.

SUMMARY: Lecture 8 provides a brief summary on the geographic setting and the findings from Early Bronze Age II-III Troy (Hisarlik). This lecture is designed mainly as an educational resource for college students (i.e., normally posted only on my institution's course website), the public (e.g., people auditing my course), and interested colleagues from other disciplines (to whom I provide copies privately).  I am posting it here, both as a broader access, educational tool, and especially to promote the study of this region and its past societies.  For further knowledge about this region and period, I refer interested parties to the textbooks and other sources from which the materials were extracted (see syllabus), and/or the bibliographies in these works and my online resource guides (see other files in my academia folders).  The lecture summarizes the pertinent materials in the course textbook(s), adding in other data, and furnishing numerous images to clarify information encountered within the textbook(s).  Some generic imagery (usually indicated as such) is posted to aid in transmitting various concepts visually, and/or when a specific image remains not located (temporarily).  I update and revise such lectures each time, with such elective courses normally being taught once every two years.  I try to cover the most current, mainstream views, and usually place summary notes at the end of each lecture alongside some of the key sources used for compiling the ppt.  Over time, each lecture is improved, errors rectified, and additional data placed within the lecture.  These ppt. lectures take many hours to compile, but they have proved useful to many of my more serious students and I hope they can be of benefit to others as well.  My apologies for any errors I may have made, and my liberal usage of educational imagery from professional sources and vetted internet sources. Change is occurring at a rapid rate in China. Policy reforms, regional development are going ahead at an unprecedented pace. Inevitably, some strata of society have been left behind. This paper focuses on the plight of the ‘left behind’ who comprise mainly children who are in the care of their grandparents, some of whom are elderly.  New developments in agriculture (now more highly femininized) innovative land transfer policy, and land consolidation all have an impact on creation of ‘hollow villages’.  We assess the importance of current and past developments and conclude with some recommendations about future research priorities and suggestions to local government officials and decision makers.

In England, there is an inherent love of the countryside by its people, particularly by its poets and authors.  However, over the past 50 years, the countryside has changed dramatically. Open fields replace the hedgerows and enclosures fields of the Georgian eras, and giant tractors and machinery do what eight men once did.  Throughout the villages of England, a new social structure is replacing older patterns of rural life.  A new type of village is emerging, with new houses and people, many of whom work in cities but desire the rural-urban (rurban) way of life of the village.  But somehow these new additions to villages lack the qualities of the village of the past.  The new village developments are beginning to have a sameness about them.  This study investigates ways of removing that sameness in the urban design of expanded village developments.  It begins with a study of the mechanisms that have defined and changed the form of the rural-urban environment.  The examination reveals, that despite the change in the rural environment, there are definite principles that give the villages of England their unique quality. It is these principles that the study seeks to promote in the design of new village form.  The study outlines what changes will be needed if the design and development of new or within existing villages are to be improved.  A case study of small Oxfordshire village, Little Milton, is presented to see how the form of a proposed new development in this village can be improved through public participation in the development process.

To discuss with the notion of Swaraj, we also have to state about its other important auxiliaries, e.g. the national self-help scheme and self-development procedure. Village reconstruction is thought to be a part of National self-help and National Self-development programme. Now if we investigate properly, then we could find out that the actual aim of the British rule was to destroy the social strength of India. How this foreign rule gradually destroyed Indian social life-structure, is vividly depicted in Sri Aurobindo's own writings – '…the Village samiti is the seed of Swaraj…when a nation is in a natural condition, growing from within and existing from within and in its own strength, then it develops its own centres and correlates them according to its own needs. But as soon as for any reason this natural condition is interrupted and a foreign body draws to itself all the sources of nourishment and the natural centres, deprived of their sustenance, fail and disappear. It is for this reason that foreign rule can never be for the good of a nation, never work for its true progress and life, but must always work towards its disintegration and death…We in India had our own instruments of life and growth; we had the self-dependent village; we had the Zamindar as the link between the village units and the central governing body and the central governing body itself was one in which the heart of the nation beat. All these have been either destroyed or crippled by the intrusion of a foreign organism. If we are to survive as a nation we must restore the centres of strength which are natural and necessary to our growth, and the first of these, the basis of all the rest6, the old foundation of Indian life and the secret of Indian vitality was the self-dependent and self-sufficient village organism. If we are to organise Swaraj we must base it on the village.'1

We conclude by addressing the embodied co-design tools developed with the locals as an unobtrusive form of activities to engage community to work towards consensus. We addressed the importance of design activism, which take into the considerations local values, and to achieve social innovation through collaborative imagination of the community’s collective wishes.
