Ignacy Terlecki was one of the most significant collectors of antiquities of the Black Sea northern shores. This military physician residing in the Crimea was able to form one of the most valuable private collections of this sort at the beginning of the 20th century. Particularly important was his collection of ancient coins minted in the Greek cities of the region. After the collector’s death in 1916 and as a result of the events of the October Revolution, his widow and children left the Crimea and settled in Poland. They brought to Poland Ignacy’s numismatic collection. Most of the ancient coins were sold to the National Museum in Warsaw. Some were donated by Lech Kokociński to the National Museum in Krakow. However the history of the Terlecki’s collection is much more complicated, because it is assumed that he sold part of it already in 1911. The main source for the collection composition are manuscript catalogs kept in Kerch, Warsaw and Krakow. The catalogs were compiled by Ignacy Terlecki himself but also by his son Władysław. The article discusses the catalogs of Ignacy Terlecki’s collection of Greek coins minted by the Greek cities of the northern shores of the Black Sea, kept in the National Museums in Warsaw and Krakow.

This report  analyzes the findings of forgery cast coins in the Russian Far East and in the border provinces of China over recent years, from the author`s collection and other sources that are known for the territory of their findings. As an attempt of general understanding and systematization of this numismatic material, here was propose a variant of typology, and was consider the questions of the origin and usage of such coins.

These notes are an attempt, on the example of one well - known coin - Yong Le Tong Bao, to trace its movement in neighboring countries (Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia), which also produced independent copies, to summarize and systematize the accumulated material and familiarize with it for further discussion.

Falsa fusio in Trier. The Coin Moulds of the 3rd Century from the Löwenbrauerei and the Role of the denarius in the Monetary Circulation of Northern Gaul

The rescue excavations carried out between 1996 and 1999 by Dr. H.-P. Kuhnen on the site of the old Löwen Brewery in Trier led to the discovery of around 3,000 clay coin moulds. These discs bear the imprints of denarii, antoniniani and sesterces of the 2nd and first half of the 3rd century and form the largest assemblage ever brought to light in the city
on the Moselle. The study of a sample of 626 moulds dating from Antoninus Pius to Gordian III allows a dating of the production of the cast coins between ca. 240 and before 260. Analysing the imprints proves that the mint discharged the used moulds from at least two different sites (land Ueberlé and land Löwenbrauerei). Cast denarii, antoniniani and sesterces, which are counterfeit coins, nevertheless are marginal in the monetary circulation in the city. They did not function as emergency coinage, but assured the earnings of some counterfeiters, without being able to vie with the Imperial coinage or presenting a danger to the fundamentals of the state’s monetary system.

The collection of ancient coins from the northern coast of the Black Sea created by Ignacy Terlecki (1860–1916) in Kerch, Crimea, in the years 1902–1914(?) was one of the most significant collections of this
type at the time. Apart from ancient coins, it also comprised Polish coins and medals, Russian coins, ancient works of art, and perhaps some other unidentified artefacts. To date, the collection has not been reconstructed in its entirety. Also missing are many details concerning the collection both in the original owner’s lifetime and after his death in 1916. Following the year 1919, thanks to the efforts of the owner’s widow, Mrs Maria Terlecka, the major part of these ancient coins
from the northern coast of the Black Sea was acquired by the National Museum in Warsaw, while the Polish gold coins went to the National Bank of Poland, and the collection of the Russian silver coinage was sold off by weight. It is also known that Ignacy Terlecki sold a certain amount of ancient coins from his collection even before the First World War through the agency of the antiquarian firm operated by the Egger Brothers (Egger Brüder), subsequently creating a new collection. In 1908, the National Museum in Krakow came into possession of one ancient coin from Terlecki’s collection and some other ancient artefacts.
It is possible that Terlecki also sold a small group of ancient coins to the National Museum in Krakow in 1909. The museum acquired a more sizable portion of coins from the former collection of Ignacy Terlecki (eighty-four pieces) thanks to a donation made by Lech Kokociński. The present article aims to throw more light on the ancient coins from the former collection of Ignacy Terlecki, as previously and currently owned by the National Museum in Krakow.

Jh.s bezeichnet P. eine Kupferlegierung, die im Bereich der Messingherstellung (Messing) verwendet wird. Man unterscheidet zwei Arten. P. jaune bezeichnet eine Legierung aus Gelb-und etwas Beimengung von Rotkupfer, P. gris setzt sich aus Messing und Blei oder Zinn zusammen (22, 910). Neuere Definitionen nennen für letzteres Anteile von 70% Cu, 26% Zn, 3% Pb, 1% Sn und z. T. Fe (12, 147). Im dt. wird P. oftmals mit Tombak bzw. Messing gleichgesetzt. Der Begriff P. findet in der kelt. Num. sowie in der Ur-und Frühgesch. für gegossene kelt. Buntmetallmünzen (Münzwesen, keltisches) Verwendung, sog. P.-Münzen. In der frz.Forsch. ist daneben der Terminus bronzes coulées geläufig. Ihre Herstellung erfolgte in einer zweischaligen Form im Reihengußverfahren. In die aus Ton hergestellten (1, 47) oder wohl häufiger mit feuchtem Sand gefüllten Gußformen (4, 60 ff.) wurden die Münzbilder mit Hilfe einer Patrize (Patrizen und Matrizen) oder einer bereits fertigen Münze mehrere Male abgedrückt und durch Gußkanäle verbunden, so daß das flüssige Metall von einem Abdruck zum nächsten fließen konnte. Die Ansätze der abgezwickten Gußkanäle sind bei den Münzen in der Regel noch gut erkennbar. Eindeutige Reste des Reihengußverfahrens lieferte etwa die Spät-LTZ-Siedlung auf dem Kegelriß bei Freiburg im Breisgau (2, 119 Abb. 77). Wie die Metallanalysen zeigen, bestehen die P.-Münzen aus sehr unterschiedlichen Legierungen, deren Hauptbestandteile Kupfer und Zinn beträchtlichen Schwankungsbreiten ausgesetzt sind, so daß auch Seite: 324 Münzen existieren, bei denen das Zinn die Hauptmenge bildet. Daneben fanden je nach Verfügbarkeit insbesondere die Metalle Blei und Antimon als Legierungspartner Verwendung (3; 4; 18, 27 ff.), jedoch nur im Ausnahmefall Zink, welches eigtl. im Sinne der o. g. Definitionen von P. in den Münzen regelmäßig vorzufinden sein müßte. Eine Verwendung von echten Messinglegierungen in der kelt. Münzprägung ist erst am Ende des 1. Jh.s v. Chr. unter verstärktem röm. Einfluß zu verzeichnen. Dies betrifft aber nicht mehr die P.-Münzen, sondern nur noch geprägte Geldstücke (1, 46; 10). Nachdem die Datierungsansätze der P.-Münzen mit rein num. Methoden in den 1970er J. an ihre Grenzen gestoßen waren (1, 49; 4, 41 f.; 5), legte die Forsch. das Augenmerk vermehrt auf den arch. Kontext, über den tragfähigere Ergebnisse zu erzielen sind (8; 9). Über die Vergesellschaftung der P.-Münzen mit anderen arch. Artefakten in Gräbern und Siedlungen ist deshalb von einem Beginn ihrer Herstellung nach 150 v. Chr. und einem Ende im späten 1. Jh. v. Chr. auszugehen (1, 49 ff.; 11; 13; 16; 18; 20, 149 ff.; 23). Zahlreiche verschiedene P.-Münztypen sind in nahezu ganz Frankreich, in Belgien, Luxemburg, England, der W-und N-Schweiz sowie im Saarland, in Rheinland-Pfalz und S-Baden verbreitet (11; 15; 18; 21). Sie werden traditionell nach ihren geogr. Verteilungsschwerpunkten kelt. Stämmen zugewiesen (Sequaner-P., Leuker-P. usw.). Dieses Ordnungsprinzip sollte rein chorologisch verstanden werden, nicht jedoch als Hinweis auf die Münzherrenfrage, da auch außerhalb jener Stammesgebiete mit Herstellungsorten einzelner Typen zu rechnen ist (18). Das Vorkommen der P.-Münzen konzentriert sich bes. auf die Großsiedlungen, wie etwa Bibracte, Alesia, Basel-Gasfabrik und -Münsterhügel (Basel), Tarodunum bei Freiburg im Breisgau (Zarten) u. a. m. (3; 11), wo Fundzahlen, die von einigen Dutzend bis einigen Hundert Ex. reichen, nicht als außergewöhnlich zu betrachten sind. An diesen zentralen Plätzen dienten sie wahrscheinlich als Kleingeld für den alltäglichen Handel. Neuerdings werden daneben auch andere Funktionen dieser Münzen diskutiert, etwa ein Gebrauch als Rechenpfennige, tesserae oder Votivgaben (1, 48 f.; 11, 137 ff.; 15, 68 f.). Außerhalb ihres eigtl.
