Presentation of the excavations at Arenosola in southern Campania
Ephemeris Napocensis, XIX, 2009
In the first half of October 2007 and the spring of the following year there were carried out rescue archaeological researches on Izvorului Street. The researched point is placed on the location of the biggest Roman necropolis of the old urban centre Apulum, situated on Dealul Furcilor (the Pitchforks' Hill), Podei spot (Pl. I, 1). Within this necropolis which spreads over a surface of several hectares, there were archaeological researches carried out by Professor D. Protase between 1956-1958 incineration and inhumation 1 graves being unearthed. After 2000 limited researches were conducted by teams of archaeologists from Alba Iulia 2 . In September-December 2006, the undersigned together with my colleague G. Bounegru unearthed 40 m approximately west from the researched spot, 25 inhumation graves, placed on the western edge of the necropolis 3 . Other archaeological researches revealed 24 inhumation graves and 8 of incineration 4 .

New Discoveries Between the Alps and the Black Sea Results From the Roman Sites in the Period Between 2005 and 2015, 2018
The paper focuses on the structure, burial dynamics and evolution of the northern necropolis of the Roman colony Iulia Emona (Ljubljana, Slovenia). This large necropolis has been extensively excavated and to date approximately 3000 graves have been discovered. This analysis relies mostly on the latest excavations, especially those at the sites Kozolec II and Slovenska cesta 55a. The aim is to shed some light on the question of how the northern necropolis was structured and how it evolved over time. There is also a discussion of structurally differentiated burial areas in the necropolis,as well as its infrastructure and relation to the northern road and industrial areas in the vicinity.
The project ‘Ritorno a Vulci. Le necropoli orientali dagli scavi italo-francesi dell’Ottocento alle attività di tutela della seconda metà del Novecento’ aims to initiate a new season of research focused on studying specific sectors of the eastern necropolis of Vulci, starting from the investigations conducted in the 19th century by Italian and French archaeologists, up to the most recent protective measures implemented by the Superintendency in the early 1990s. The project is the result of a scientific collaboration between the Settore di Etruscologia e Antichità italiche of the Dipartimento di Scienze dell’Antichità - Sapienza Università di Roma, the École française de Rome, the Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio per la provincia di Viterbo e per l’Etruria meridionale, the Direzione Regionale Musei Lazio and the Department of Greece and Rome of the British Museum

Colonia Flavia Pacis Deultensium, or Deultum, is located in today’s Southeastern Bulgaria some 15 km west of Burgas. It is one of the two Roman colonies in the province of Thrace and was founded between 70-80 AD. The archaeological site has been regularly excavated since the 1980s. Information about Deultum throughout various periods of its existence has been published several times. However, this is not valid for the necropolises of the city. Although some of them have been excavated, the results have either gone unpublished or been very scarce. In this way, a considerable amount of data concerning the burial practices and rites of the inhabitants of Deultum have remained unavailable to the public so far. The paper presents the current state of knowledge on the necropolises of the colony by taking into account their locations, boundaries, dates, and grave types. Special attention is given to the latest archaeological research on the necropolises, as well as the most significant results. The article complements the information about daily life, burial, and commemorative rituals in the Roman colony of Deultum.
