After the beginning of the year 2007, the number of Croatian scientific journals indexed in bibliographical and citation database Web of Science (WoS) has rapidly increased, and among them the number of Croatian social sciences (SS) and arts and humanities (A&H) journals as well. In this paper, the (inter)national orientation of Croatian social sciences (SS) and arts and humanities (A&H) journals indexed in the period 2008-2010 in the Web of Science (WoS) database was analyzed. The analysis was conducted via language of the journal title and published papers, national distribution of authors and co-authorship structure, as well as via the INO indicator. For the purpose of this analysis, SS journals were divided into 2 groups -SS journals related to medicine and health (SSM) and other SS journals (SSO), while A&H journals were observed as one group (AH). Results of the analysis showed that Croatian SSM journals are the most internationally oriented among analyzed groups of journals according to all indicators, while the SSO journals have the strongest national orientation. However, all three analyzed groups of journals are still the most attractive first for Croatian authors, and than to authors from region (SSO, SSM) and top 20 countries in the world sciences (AH).

The article offers a political-social-cultural reflection of the development of Slovak translated literature and Slovak thinking on translation. The year 1945 was a turning point for the development of culture and translated literature in Slovakia. The conditions for translation production and theoretical thinking on translation development were being created, but on the other hand, ideological and political effects on translation production were starting to emerge. The article specifies several milestones between 1945 and the present that have shaped and influenced Slovak society as well as translated literature on socio-political, cultural, and literary levels. The particular periods looked at are the 1940s and 50s, the 1960s, the 1970s, and the 1980s and 90s.
The new scientific results should be published. However, the scientific result will be lost in inappropriate choice of the media in which is expected to appear. The world periodicals are developed in two levels, parts of the World System of Abstracting, Indexing and Evaluation, WSAIE. This system is just the body of the world science. The first level consists of the primary research journals. After careful inspection these journals should be accepted for covering in secondary research sourcesthe latter build the second level of the system. Journals, which are not presented in secondary research sources, are considered as marginal and the submission of manuscripts to such journals is not recommended. The second level of WSAIE has an elite part, an American one (Thomson Reuters, Web of Science), and an European one (Elsevier, SCOPUS). The journals of Web of Science are characterized by their impact factor, IF; the journals of SCOPUS are characterized by their impact rank, SJR -these journals' scientometric characteristics are entirely equal in use; no one of them should be favoured in respect to the other. However, these factors characterize the journals, not authors publishing in them; therefore, these numbers cannot be used neither to compare different scientific areas nor in the personal evaluation of authors' scientific activity. The personal and institutional competencies for research could be estimated by properly use of some scientometric variables. The most important of them are considered.

This paper deals were conducted on the articles which carry the relevant scientific information. Descriptive statistics was used for the data analysis, using frequencies, percentages and means. The results of this research showed a strong orientation towards Slovakian and Czech authors regardless of the two analyzed groups. Based on INO, most of the Central European journals quality and impact were comparatively low. A competitive environment has been created for journals in the social science disciplines, especially for those with competitors in neighboring countries in fields such as psychology, economics, geography and sociology.

This report evaluates the endowment distribution policy at Slovak state universities. Publication activity is divided into particular groups and categories. Among them, monographs and papers indexed in Current Contents Connect database reach the highest-ranking score. There are distinct bibliometrical indicators used for the evaluation: Impact Factor, 5-Year Impact Factor and Immediacy Index. Publication activity in Slovakia uses its own internet portal and has been recorded in the Central Register of Publication Activity since 2007.
