ABSTRACT The focus of internal corporate communication is gaining interest, particularly because it is very essential in all dimensions of the organization’s performance. Hence, effective communication has been linked to a number of positive outcomes like organizational success, financially and socially, higher levels of cooperation and employee job satisfaction while ineffective communication may lead to dissatisfaction, misunderstandings, lack of information, lower performances and more employee rotations. The inability of managers to effectively communicate with their employees leads to employee job dissatisfaction and poor performance. Hence, this study examines how internal corporate communication influences employees job satisfaction in selected organizations under study. The survey method was adopted to gather data; 296 copies of the questionnaire were administered on junior and senior personnel of the selected organizations under study while in-depth interview was conducted with selected management level personnel. Data were collected and analyzed in simple frequency tables and the responses were represented in frequency tables as percentages of the overall sample. Also the Pearson chi-square was employed to determine the relationship between variables for any significance. Findings from the study show that the channels of internal corporate communication operational in the selected organizations are: face-to-face discussions, e-mails, intercom units, intranet, reports, messengers, memos, newsletters, official letters, bulletin boards, departmental/management meetings, group/team discussions, in-house training sessions, management/employee briefing sessions, labor union meetings, suggestion boxes, notices, closed unit groups (CUGs), and assemblies. Further findings reveal that most of the employees perceive internal corporate communication in their organizations as very effective, positive and a necessary organizational tool for employee job satisfaction. Findings reveal a significant relationship between internal corporate communication and employee job satisfaction which further enhances employee job performance. Further findings from the study also reveal that organizations are faced with diverse internal communication challenges such as: distorted feedback, matching message content with appropriate packaging, inadequate information, uneven flow of information, messages with lack of clarity of purpose, inability to arrive at a homogeneous internal communication approach and complete communication breakdown. These challenges, when not properly tackled, can hinder many organizational processes, especially its efforts at achieving employee job satisfaction/performance and, ultimately, organizational success. Internal corporate communication plays a major role in influencing employee job satisfaction which significantly influences employee job performance hence; organizations that want to successfully retain a satisfied workforce must be willing to employ a communication style that is more participative and employee-supportive. Organizations’ internal publics, which generally comprises two categories of personnel, namely management staff and employees constitute some of the key elements that contribute toward realizing the goals and objectives of the organization. However, unlike non-academic organizations, institutions of higher (academic) learning have two additional categories of internal publics — academic staff and students. This makes such institutions a bit unique. Public relations (PR) as a management function and tool is utilized by the management between itself and all categories of internal publics to facilitate smooth information dissemination and communication for enhanced job performance. Hence, a unique type of PR practice capable of addressing the characteristic needs of the academic staff (who are directly involved with the students) in addition to those of the non-academic staff will be required. A critically review of extant literature surrounding the impacts of the practice of PR on job performance among employees of Nigerian institutions of higher learning was performed. Additionally, critical intra-organizational PR media capable of addressing the characteristic and specific needs of the overall and specific internal publics were underscored and some policy recommendations offered. This article concludes that effective PR (a PR practice that addresses both the comprehensive and specific needs of the various classifications of internal publics) enhances job performance and productivity.
There are varying views about Organizational Communication. Contingency approach assumes that organizational communication effects can be explained only in the context of the constraints of different contingencies But most thinkers opine that through communication, everyone knows his /her role place, and task within the organization and the different parts of that organization are adequately coordinated. When communication stops, organized activity ceases to exist, individual, uncoordinated activity returns. Communication is effective when members of an organization share information with each other and all parties involved are relatively clear about what this information means. Communication is not an end in itself but a means to an end. Proper communication lays the foundation of a sound organizational culture, builds high employee morale to the extent that in some cases listening the actual problem of the employees itself can give them the impression that proper action will be taken. Management has to ensure that it leaves the impression that communication efforts guarantee results.

Many workers in construction sites are still subjected to high health and safety risk despite of various efforts which are in place. However how workers in construction sites are informed on health and safety risks is obvious important factors in implementation of initiatives. This paper therefore aimed at understanding communication mechanism of health and safety risk information in construction sites. The essence is to examine what methods used for communication of risk information, the nature of these senders (communicators) and receivers (workers), the context of risk message and challenges on risk communication. A multiple case study strategy was adopted in this research whereby six large ongoing construction sites were selected basing on convenient sampling techniques. Within the site, structured interview and focus group discussion were used. Non-participatory observation was also used to collect data. The study reveals that multiplicity of communication channels and methods play out simultaneously in communication of risk information within construction sites. However, toolbox meeting was predominantly methods. This being the case, the environment for conducting effective toolbox meetings remains a challenge on many sites. On the other hand, site officers were the main senders of communicating health and safety risk information to the workers. However, the quality of the sender in terms of health and safety skills as well as experiences was found to influences health and safety risk communication. The findings provide the basis for suggesting areas where employers and managers can make interventions to enable safe and healthy working specifically focusing on risk communication.
