The scientific potential of lead pipes for reconstructing the history of Rome was recognised at the end of the 19th century, first by Rodolfo Lanciani and later by Heinrich Dressel. Thanks to them, we began to understand the extent of the social, political, and economic relationships that could be discerned through the study of lead pipe inscriptions. These pioneering studies inaugurated a long tradition of research that continues to the present day, and which can be traced back to scholar as Werner Eck, Christer Bruun and, more recently, Gerda De Klejn, who also had the merit of introducing demographic considerations into the debate. However, despite the long tradition of studies, there are still methodological criticisms relating to the collection of data from these objects. In fact, over time we have not gone beyond the epigraphic and, above all, prosopographical approach of the first studies, and some important information, such as topography, metrology, and technology, has been overlooked. In short, lead pipes have always been described by their inscriptions, without a detailed analysis of the context, the purpose of the pipes and the technology used to make them.

A parabolic solar dish concentrator, as the heat source of an organic Rankine cycle (ORC), can be used for power generation. Different types of tubular cavity receivers with different nanofluids can be considered for use in the solar dish collector to improve its efficiency. In the current research, an ORC with three different cavity receivers including hemispherical, cubical, and cylindrical are investigated using three nanofluids: Al 2 O 3 /oil, CuO/oil, and SiO 2 /oil. A numerical model is validated using experimental data. The ORC analysis is done for a constant evaporator pressure of 2.5 MPa, and condenser temperature of 38 • C. Methanol is employed as the ORC's working fluid and a non-regenerative, ideal ORC system with different turbine inlet temperatures is considered. Furthermore, a fixed solar heat transfer fluid flow rate of 60 mL/s and dish diameter of 1.9 m is investigated. Results show that, compared to pure oil, the thermal efficiency of the cavity receivers increases slightly, and the pressure drop increases with the application of nanofluids. Furthermore, results show that the cubical cavity receiver, using oil/Al 2 O 3 nanofluid, is the most efficient choice for application as the investigated solar ORC's heat source.

Sketching in general engineering and science has been “outmanoeuvred” by computer graphics while still holding on in architectural engineering as a tool to think about spatial relationships, allowing the students to develop conceptual designs quicker than any CAD. Moreover, a recent paper reported that sketching helped students in geology develop critical thinking skills. Based on students’ feedback, it was concluded that it led to a deeper understanding of important concepts. Should it surprise us that psychological research shows that sketching facilitates inference, discovery and learning? This paper presents a model for creating and assessing assignments that uses engineering sketching to teach and learn in a second year course at UNSW, CVEN2101-Engineering Construction. The class focuses on studying key principles related to the safe and effective utilization of construction equipment such as trucks, excavators, cranes and temporary structures. Students faced the challenge to i...

References to fear are often associated with narratives created by right-wing parties and media, especially while talking about issues such as gender, LGBTQIA+ or abortion. However, similar practices can be found in centre-liberal discourse, proving that the creation and reproduction of the dialectic of fear can apply to all agents, no matter their political affiliation. The article aims to challenge popular academic perceptions of the sources of fear by proposing a counterperspective that means to shift perception on agents of polarisation. Used examples focus on contemporary Polish mainstream centre-liberal newspapers which reproduce fear in their narrative, adding to both local and worldwide phenomena of political polarisation and radicalisation.

From the late 14th century, the Servite church of the Santissima Annunziata, Florence, became a major pilgrimage site, popular with Florentines and international visitors, due to the presence of Madonna della Nunziata. This article, however, wishes to investigate the persons who regularly used the Annunziata during the 15th to 16th centuries, beyond the pilgrim crowds. One way to do this is to consider who was buried there. As the Annunziata was not a parish church, people had to make the specific choice to be interred there; thus, burial there may imply a special attachment. People from diverse professions, trades, and class levels found their final resting place in this church through various means. Where possible, the article provides examples of how individuals interacted with the community during their lives. https://storiadellachiesainitalia.vitaepensiero.it/
