A preliminary assessment of the environmental and socio- economic impacts of the proposed development of a tourist resort at Oxwich Bay
2016
Purpose – Coastal areas in the Republic of Croatia are the object of increasing interest of property developers in tourism and leisure sector. The paper is focused on the analysis of environmental and social impacts of such projects in local communities. Methodology – As the problem must be observed in depth and with holistic focus, the authors applied qualitative research based on observations, authors’ own experiences and the reports on previous research. Findings – Considering the fact that the sea and the coast are assets of particular interest for the Republic of Croatia, its citizens should be accorded particular legal protection, meaning that the aspects of public interest should be reviewed while considering the requirements of individual investors. Contribution – The research provides the framework for holistic analysis of the impacts of projects in tourism from the standpoint of their various externalities detrimental for public funds, taxpayers, environment and local comm...
Cambridge Prisms: Coastal Futures
The socioeconomics of the Anthropocene is exposing coastal regions to multiple pressures, including climate change hazards, resource degradation, urban development and inequality. Tourism is often raised as either a panacea to, or exacerbator of, such threats to ecosystems and sustainable livelihoods. To better understand the impacts of tourism on coastal areas, Scopus and Web of Science databases were searched for the top 100 cited papers on coastal tourism. Web of Science suggested ‘highly cited’ papers were also included to allow for more recent high-impact papers. Of the papers retrieved, 44 focused on the impacts of tourism. Social/cultural and environmental impacts were viewed as mostly negative, while economic impacts were viewed as mostly positive but only of actual benefit to a few. In addition, when compared with recent whole-of-sector reviews and reports it was evident that coastal tourism is increasingly a global enterprise dominated by large corporations that leverage v...
Journal of Sustainable Tourism, 2009
About 30% of the world's tourism is on the coast or within the coastal zone and in addition the economy of that area depends on the coastal tourism besides their other profession like fisheries, agriculture and so on. The reality of economic gains from coastal tourism is established and the most real thing is the financial investment and profit. The importance of coastal environmental components to support sustainable coastal tourism is still ignored. The resulting impact on coastal communities along with their physical, socio-economic and cultural environment has to be managed efficiently to achieve sustainable coastal tourism.

Discurso de Ódio e censura Hate Speech and Censorship Resumo: Não existem direitos fundamentais absolutos.
