In this workshop we want the audience to experiment listening to a story with the visual support of prezi and see its application to the classroom. For doing so we will be using a story by Julia Donaldson and some pre-listening and follow-up activities (also with the support of Prezi). At the end of the workshop we will have some minutes for round-up comments and open questions. The web 2.0 tool we will be using is free and can be found at: www.prezi.com

This longitudinal descriptive qualitative evaluation action research case study explored the reflections/experiences (i.e., their perceptions, attitudes, and feelings) of 450 pre-service teachers in the College of Education (COE) at Kuwait University (KU) over three academic years regarding the use of Prezi as a facilitative storytelling presentation tool for the teaching and learning processes of education. The results of this study were very encouraging and in high support of using Web 2.0/3.0 presentation tools in general and Prezi in particular into education. The qualitative nature of the data collection instruments’ used in this research, the implementation period, as well as the ability to scrutinize a large sample size all played a remarkable role in strengthening the statistical significance and confidence in the collected data. This study’s findings are coherent with the results of research studies conducted over the past five years as well as the assumptions postulated. The results of such research study could assist scholars, academics, educators, teachers, administrators, instructional technology leaders, professionals, practitioners, as well as policy and decision makers determining and defining appropriate solutions/actions to educational challenges.

This study aims at analyzing reflection of the use of prezi as instructional media for teaching English in Indonesian context. Prezi is presentation software which is not commonly used in Indonesia producing a cloud-based presentation and storytelling tool for presenting ideas on a virtual canvas. This study is conducted based on the previous survey study done by Fox et.al (2016) finding that all of the students in their study preferred prezi rather than power point as a presentation tool in the areas of ease of use, fun to use, text, graphics, and usage in future presentations. However, this study has a purpose to reflect the student-teacher’s experience when using prezi in teaching English. To obtain the data, journal writing and self-observation by using video recording are used. It deeply investigates: 1) how he creates prezi for teaching English and 2) challenges and benefits of using it for teaching. The finding revealed that prezi is a powerful tool attracting the students’ a...

This article describes an educational project, an effective tool for the work of pre-service teachers for primary and preschool and analyzes it from the perspective of sound content in order to improve it. The paper is made up of four parts preceded by an Argument and ends with some Final Considerations. The first part, The Digital Stories-the theoretical foundation, synthesizes some theoretical ideas about the subject being treated. In the second part, The Story Workshop-the description of the educational project is presented with the concept of the working instrument. Part Three, Qualitative Analysis of Audio Content in the Story Workshop describes the study. In the fourth part, Sound Editing Programs, some examples of music software that can be used by students to enrich the content created with diverse sounds are described. Final considerations are not only the outcome of the study, but rather an intrigue for further steps.

Interactive story-based educational environments present a conflict between the determinism imposed by the pedagogue and the freedom desired by the learner. Designing a good pedagogical experience requires adding restrictions to the interaction that may frustrate learners. This ...
For many years now, Microsoft PowerPoint has been so dominant in the field of presentation software that its name has become all but synonymous with the generic concept. Professors often assume students have access to PowerPoint to create their own student presentations (or, at a minimum, to display and print the instructors‘ slides for use as notes or handouts, particularly since Microsoft offers a free viewer for download for anyone who lacks the full software). Even Macintosh users can reliably be assumed to have the ability to create and view PPT files, even though native Mac applications like Keynote promise enhanced design possibilities.
Journal on English as a Foreign Language
Using sophisticated technology in EFL has been a source of considerable debate. As a part of the Web 2.0 movement, Prezi lets users generate, produce, and preserve virtual demonstrations. While a substantial study has been conducted on the benefits and downsides of utilizing Prezi presentations, there is scarce research on students' experiences with using Prezi. The study aims to look at pupils' perspectives on using Prezi in learning English to fill the gap. Twenty students from a private secondary school in Mojokerto, Indonesia, were examined. This exploratory qualitative case study used a purposive sampling strategy. They answered ten interview questions, which the researchers examined using content analysis. The findings revealed that students' experiences using Prezi and making Prezi demonstrations could be divided into four primary topics: serviceability, effectiveness, design, and hindrances. Using Prezi, students experienced producing more interactive visuals for...

Digital storytelling is the telling of stories using computer-based tools to tell stories. It combines the art of telling stories with a variety of multimedia, including graphics, audio, video, and Web publishing. In the field of education, teachers and their students, from early childhood classrooms through graduate school, are using digital storytelling in many different content areas and across a wide range of grade levels. The purpose of this article is to explain the way how the digital storytelling can be created. There are five steps in creating digital storytelling in this workshop. 1. Determine Topic and Write a Script, 2. Collect Digital Resources, 3. Select Content and Develop a Storyboard, 4. Import, Record, Finalize, and 5. Share, Teach, Improve. It is expected that after having completed reading this article, the readers can create their own digital storytelling for educational use. Key Words: Digital Storytelling, Computer Based Tools
The researchers pointed out that digital storytelling can be used as supporting materials for the e-learning portal in both departments, English and Indonesian department. It discussed more about the process of designing the material of a digital storytelling as teaching aid for literal listening subject. It has a significant contribution for the effective and fun English learning. Through the qualitative method used to analyze the data. The research also started by collecting sources for creating and designing the digital storytelling on stories entitled " Aunt Polly " and " Tom Fight " by Mark Twain. It started from inventorying the teaching and learning stuff such as syllabus, lesson plan, software, and the digital contents of the storytelling made. The researchers choose Audacity 3.5 Beta, and Windows Moviemaker 2.6, as the software for editing audio and creating video. The stories were made for enhancing the students listening skills either bottom-up or top down. The result of this research proves digital storytelling can be used in E-learning portal, such as Edmodo. The questionnaires result shows that digital storytelling is an interesting material, but need to be modified more in e-learning.

Storytelling was for a long period the only way people had to learn from each other's experiences. Even today there are still some cultures which have a strong storytelling tradition. In this article we present the outcomes and experiences we acquired during the realization of several EU educational projects in which we combined storytelling and Web 2.0 services. The combined method has proved to provide several learning advantages in educational projects, namely: − understanding of and empathy towards other races and cultures is increased; − auditory processing skills and listening skills are supported and practiced; − memory is enhanced and attention spans are extended; − factual and conceptual curriculum material is effectively and efficiently taught.

The casting defects that is induced through molten alloy, were entrapment of gas, air and inclusion and through solidifying pattern, were shrinkage porosity. The assurance of less casting defects have been based with the experience of the engineers in foundry. In present time, with the help of computer simulations, analysis of solidification pattern and molten metal’s flow can be done. For solidification process and flow pattern, optimized process parameters can be achieved. The results from simulations for hardware component to check the die-casting process, have found better agreements with the experimental records in terms of quality and reliability, showed satisfactory results. This paper gives review on various techniques to analyze the casting defects and Variation in simulations is stated, which is helpful for detection and elimination of defects rapidly and accurately.
