A Survey Based Study on Green Tea: Nepal

This was the first survey conducted in Nobel Collage, Kathmandu Nepal carried out during 2014. Aim of this survey was to assess the knowledge of the teachers and students of Nobel Collage towards green tea. For the collection of data self-design questionnaire was used. A total of 124 respondent were interviewed having age between 17 to 25 years comprises males to females ratio are 73 and 51 respectively. Majority of the respondents answer that the green tea is used for the reduction of weight, against infection, antioxidant activity and anticancer cancer activity. In conclusion, the respondent have very good knowledge about green tea and widely used.

INTRODUCTION Worldwide tea is widely used after water. Tea is top of the others beverages used in our daily life like beer, wine, carbonated soft drink etc (1,2,3). Mainly there are three types of tea includes oolong tea, black tea and green tea. The difference is not based on plant originated from it, but depend how the tea is processed. All these three types of tea are prepared from the leaves of plant know as Camellia sinesis. Comparison of green with others tea shows that the green tea have more health benefits rather than others. From very ancient time it used in the medicine to control different health related problem and disease. Due to presence of a variety of amino acids, carbohydrate, enzymes, polyphenols, lipid, sterols, phytochemical, dietary minerals and vitamin the green tea possess the antibacterial, antioxidant, antifungal etc property (4). METHODOLOGY This was the first survey conducted in Nobel Collage, Kathmandu Nepal carried out during the year 2014. This survey aimed to explore and collect the information of teachers and students of Nobel Collage towards green tea. For the collection of data from the local community a selfdesign questionnaire were used containing 17 questions. The questionnaire was in English language which translated to those who don’t know English during the interviewed. The data was collected from the peoples belongs to different profession of life. The age of participant was between 17 to 23 years. January, 2015 40 A Survey Based Study on Green Tea … OUTCOMES OF THE CURRENT STUDY Gender wise distribution In the current survey a total of 124 participants were interviewed from Kathmandu Valley Nepal. The profession wise distribution shows that 103 was student where the 21 was teaching profession (Table 3 and Figure 3). Of the total, 84 like not branded quality while 40 like branded (Table 4 and Figure 4). S. The green tea is also useful against infection. 90 individuals are agreed and 34 are not agreed. 81 participants think that green tea has antioxidant potential while the 43 give their opinion that it doesn’t have antioxidant potential. The 93 individual think that the green tea also have anticancer activity while 21 give answer No. Out of total respondent the 40 give their opinion that the green tea have side effect while the 84 give answer that the green tea have no side effect (Table 6 and Figure 6). The drinking analysis of green tea shows that the 25 individuals drink more than 3 time per week, 22 drink 1-3 times per week, 30 drink fortnightly, 35 drink monthly, 21 less than once a month while 6 never drink green tea as shown in table 8 and figure 8. They used the green tea for different health purposes. We recommended further study in this regards to explore the potential of the green tea and uses of green tea against reduction weight.
