Our study aim to reveal some aspects regarding two fundanental forms of understanding the tehnologies of the Self: Mysteries of Eleusis and Francmasonry. Our goal is to point and analysis a few similarities between two fundamental ways of symbolic thinking in Greek Antiquity and Modern Age, pointing the influence of Greek Misteries on Masonry. The Mysteries of Eleusis, with analogies from the rituals of modern Freemasonry, may bring a deeper understanding of the two initiatic phenomena. Starting from different times, but similar human needs, from different but converging myths, the comparation can bring clarity in the individual transformations that take place in the consciousness of the initiate. The Misteries of Eleusis are supported by the celebration of agriculture as Freemasonry has its architecture, but both end up building an eschatological dimension.

The aim of this article is to create a bridge between some concepts that Freemasonry works with and that can be found in various forms in Plato's Dialogues. This approach can be useful for Freemasons who can approach Plato's philosophy but also for laymen who, reading Plato, can approach Freemasonry. My goal is to define some fundamental concepts în both contexts, trying to accomplish a common meanning to these two paradigms of thought.

Background-The effect of interruption of antiretroviral therapy (ART) on lipoprotein particle subclasses has not been studied. We examined short-term changes in lipids and lipoprotein particles among 332 HIV-infected individuals randomized to interrupt or continue ART in the "Strategies for Management of Antiretroviral Therapy" trial.

Radioactive ion beam intensities have been measured at ISOL (isotope separation on-line) facilities from many different targets, but only rarely these intensities are converted into production cross-sections. Here we discuss the method and possible problems in this conversion at the examples of Kr and Xe produced by 1.4 GeV-proton-induced fission of 238 U at ISOLDE and Rb and Cs produced by ≈10 MeV-neutron-induced fission of 238 U at PARRNe.

Over a period of 22 years, 154 fetuses were treated with 270 intra-uterine intraperitoneal transfusions. The patients were divided into three groups, according to the period they were treated. The overall percentage of surviving infants increased from 33% during the first period to 58% in the last period. In the group of infants that were not hydropic at the time of the first transfusion, the survival rate increased from 35 to 83%. In the group of children that were hydropic during the first transfusion, the survival rate during the first and last period was 24 and 42%, respectively. The percentage of fetuses that needed their first transfusion before the 26th week of pregnancy increased from 15 to 32% during the study period. Only 13% of these children survived. Lately, the intravascular approach has been introduced. Intravascular transfusions seem to be very effective, especially in early pregnancies and in hydropic fetuses. Application of the two techniques each in the most appropriate situation might offer optimal results for the near future.

Efficacy and safety data for dalcetrapib (RO4607381/JTT-705) are presented, following a report of increased mortality and cardiac events with another cholesteryl ester transfer protein inhibitor, torcetrapib, associated with off-target adverse effects (hypertension and the activation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system). The efficacy and clinical safety of dalcetrapib 300, 600, and 900 mg or placebo were assessed (n ‫؍‬ 838) in 4 pooled 4-week phase IIa trials (1 monotherapy, n ‫؍‬ 193; 3 statin combination, n ‫؍‬ 353) and 1 12-week phase IIb trial (with pravastatin, n ‫؍‬ 292). Nonclinical safety, assessed by the induction of aldosterone production and aldosterone synthase (cytochrome P450 11B2) messenger ribonucleic acid, was measured in human adrenocarcinoma (H295R) cells exposed to dalcetrapib or torcetrapib. Dalcetrapib increased high-density lipoprotein cholesterol by up to 36% and apolipoprotein A-I by up to 16%. The incidence of adverse events (AEs) was similar between placebo (42%) and dalcetrapib 300 mg (50%) and 600 mg (42%), with more events with dalcetrapib 900 mg (58%) (p <0.05, pooled 4-week studies). Six serious AEs (3 with placebo, 1 with dalcetrapib 300 mg, and 2 with dalcetrapib 600 mg) were considered "unrelated" to treatment. Cardiovascular AEs were similar across treatment groups, with no dose-related trends and no clinically relevant changes in blood pressure or electrocardiographic results. Findings were similar in the 12-week study. In vitro, torcetrapib but not dalcetrapib increased aldosterone production and cytochrome P450 11B2 messenger ribonucleic acid levels. In conclusion, dalcetrapib alone or in combination with statins was effective at increasing high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and was well tolerated, without clinically relevant changes in blood pressure or cardiovascular AEs and no effects on aldosterone production as assessed nonclinically. © 2009 Elsevier Inc. The present study examined the discrepancy between young and middle-aged adults' persistently negative attitudes toward older adults in general and their consistently positive attitudes toward grandparents. Two hundred-twenty young and middle-aged college students completed the Aging Semantic Differential and indicated or estimated (where appropriate) the average age for three categories of older adults: old people in general, typical (i.e., hypothetical, prototypical) grandparents, and their own grandparents. A pattern of results emerged in which students viewed older adults less positively than typical grandparents, who generally were viewed less positively than known grandparents. Because older people in general and typical grandparents were estimated as being similar in age, the positive attitudes expressed toward typical grandparents may be attributed to the social role of grandparent over and above any bias against increased age. Because students were most positive about their own grandparents, aspects of their individual grandparental relationships appear to have an additional, additive effect.
