The syndrome affects multiple organs. It is described as a clinical tetrad that involves chondrodysplasia, ectodermal dysplasia, polydactyly and congenital heart defects. It is only known from reports and case series. We present a three months old male, without relevant family history, who presented chondrodysplasia, upper lip merged to palate, bilateral sinpolydactyly in the hands, developmental dysplasia of the hip, narrow chest with short ribs, and heart defects. This case is the first report of EVC in Peruvian literature.

In this review we define the endemicity of HTLV-1 in the country proposing four epidemiological criteria. Then we discuss the core subject of the review, which is the vertical transmission of HTLV-1. This mechanism is one of the main forms of transmission in our country. Within the development of this particular topic, we present an estimated rate of vertical transmission and the risk factors associated to vertical transmission based on an exhaustive review of the national and international literature. This review pretend to provide a first approach to the vertical transmission of HTLV-1, an aspect poorly studied in our country.

Occasionally the development of pulmonary hypertension is the first manifestation of an occult neoplasia, in series of autopsies, an incidence from 3 to 26% has been reported in solid tumors, being clinical evident in 8%. Few cases have documented the development of this condition in patients with carcinoma hepatocelular, we report the case of a 16-year-old male who comes to the emergency with signs of cardiac insufficiency and cor pulmonare whose anatomopatological study confirmed a tumour massive microembolic compromise at pulmonary level and hepatocarcinoma.

Of the 49 research topics identified in the second stage of the process, the 30 most important ones for Peru were selected and prioritized during the workshop. These topics, selected through this inclusive, transparent, and participatory methodology, became the National Tuberculosis Research Agenda in Peru for 2011 - 2014. Secondary analysis of the National Survey Specialized on Disability (ENEDIS) of 2012 and an ecological analysis of TA records of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications was done. Disability by traffic accidents (DAT) was reported by 49,036 persons; 81.3% of whom live in urban areas. The most frequent disability was limited locomotion and skill (77.4%), followed by visual impairment (22.9%). Dependence for activities was reported in 44.7% of persons with disabilities. The regions with the highest prevalence of TA have a higher prevalence of disability by traffic accidents (Spearman coefficient: 0.426, p=0.034). Most of disability due to TA is found in urban areas, correspond to males and consist of persons in economically productive age. The most common form of disability is in locomotion. Most of individuals do not receive any form of rehabilitation, which acce...

The Mining Canon, a constitutional right, has been partly used to foster applied scientific research in public universities (PU). In addition, the National Health Institute (INSTITUTO NACIONAL DE SALUD - INS) is devoted, among others, to promoting, managing and disseminating health research development at a national level. As part of these activities, a technical team was created to provide technical assistance to PU for research development using Mining Canon funds by making local adjustments to research protocols promoted by the INS and assumed by the professors-researchers at the Universities. This article aims at describing the reality of research at Peruvian public universities that have access to Mining Canon funds, as well as to elaborate...

Evaluate the production and the research collaborative network on Leishmaniasis in South America.... more Evaluate the production and the research collaborative network on Leishmaniasis in South America. A bibliometric research was carried out using SCOPUS database. The analysis unit was original research articles published from 2000 to 2011, that dealt with leishmaniasis and that included at least one South American author. The following items were obtained for each article: journal name, language, year of publication, number of authors, institutions, countries, and others variables. 3,174 articles were published, 2,272 of them were original articles. 1,160 different institutional signatures, 58 different countries and 398 scientific journals were identified. Brazil was the country with more articles (60.7%) and Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (FIOCRUZ) had 18% of Brazilian production, which is the South American nucleus of the major scientific network in Leishmaniasis. South American scientific production on Leishmaniasis published in journals indexed in SCOPUS is focused on Brazilian research activity. It is necessary to strengthen the collaboration networks. The first step is to identify the institutions with higher production, in order to perform collaborative research according to the priorities of each country.
