The most common is to present a dysfunction of the target organ, that is, if the infection is in the neural system the most common sign is headache, if the infection is pulmonary the most common symptom is cough, if the infection is in gastrointestinal tract, diarrhea. However, there are more general signs such as fever, in appetence and dynamic, which are generalized manifestations that reflect that the organ system is experiencing an infection.

be fatal. This parasitosis has a high prevalence worldwide and Brazil is among the
countries in which the largest number of cases occurs. Low cost therapeutic
alternatives to control leishmaniasis and the use of medicinal plants in the treatment of
the disease has aroused the interest of researchers. This narrative review aimed to
study the use of medicinal plants in the treatment of cutaneous lesions caused by
leishmaniasis. We searched the following computerized databases of indexed articles:
Pubmed, Medical Literature Analysis and Online Retrieval System (Medline); Latin
American and Caribbean Health Science Literature Database (Lilacs); Scientific
Electronic Library Online (SciELO). The inclusion criteria of articles in this review were:
articles published in English, Portuguese and Spanish from 2002 to January 2019 that
refer to cutaneous leishmaniasis and trials with medicinal plants. 21 articles were
selected. Three plants (Allium sativum, Anacardium occidentale L. and Uncaria
guianensis (Aubl.) J.F.Gmel), are listed in the National List of Essential Medicines and
are indicated for the treatment of leishmaniasis wounds.

This case report portrays a patient with fever and a significant drop in general condition and other signs and symptoms whose clinical identification sustained by complementary examinations for LV was essential for the establishment of an adequate treatment.
