The aim of the study was twofold: to examine the effect of transformational leadership on organizational performance and secondly, to explore the mediating role of organizational culture in the relationship between transformational leadership and organizational performance. A purposive sample of 265 managers from banking sector of Pakistan was selected for the study. Transformational leadership was found to positively and significantly affect organizational performance along with the mediating role of organizational culture in the relationship between transformational leadership and organizational performance.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to examine the influence of leadership behaviors on both organizational and leader effectiveness at boutique hotels.Design/methodology/approachA total of 722 subjects (60 managers and 662 non‐managerial employees) participated in this study from 60 boutique hotels. Participants were told that the study was designed to collect information on the leadership styles used by managers and on the satisfaction and commitment of employees in the hospitality workforce. The high frequency of diabetes mellitus and coronary artery disease among people of South Asian extraction living in the West is well established. The prevalence of these disorders in Southern Asia is less certain. No previous attempt has been made to estimate their occurrence in Pakistan. In order to compare the prevalence of known diabetes mellitus, hypertension and ischaemic heart disease between affluent and poor urban communities in Pakistan, a survey of consecutive households was undertaken in a relatively prosperous and a poor area in Karachi. Information was obtained on 4232 adults evenly distributed between the two areas. Body weight and height were measured in 199 healthy subjects at the two sites. The prevalence of known diabetes in the affluent population was 4.5%, significantly higher than 1.8% in the poor area (p<0.001). A maximal prevalence of 25% was seen in the affluent community aged 55–64. Diabetes was more common in females in both populations. The overall prevalence of hypertension was similar in the two areas although significantly more frequent in the middle aged and affluent. A history of ischaemic heart disease occurred in 1.9% of the affluent and 0.6% of the poor (p = 0.003). Healthy subjects were heavier and more obese in the richer community. Thus the susceptibility of South Asian populations to diabetes and ischaemic heart disease is also apparent in an affluent segment of Pakistani society. The phenomenon is not attributable simply to urbanization. Obesity is probably an important contributory factor. The economic implications for developing South Asian countries are serious.

Researchers have discovered inconsistent relationships between prosocial motives and citizenship behaviors. We draw on impression management theory to propose that impression management motives strengthen the association between prosocial motives and affiliative citizenship by encouraging employees to express citizenship in ways that both "do good" and "look good." We report 2 studies that examine the interactions of prosocial and impression management motives as predictors of affiliative citizenship using multisource data from 2 different field samples. Across the 2 studies, we find positive interactions between prosocial and impression management motives as predictors of affiliative citizenship behaviors directed toward other people (helping and courtesy) and the organization (initiative). Study 2 also shows that only prosocial motives predict voice-a challenging citizenship behavior. Our results suggest that employees who are both good soldiers and good actors are most likely to emerge as good citizens in promoting the status quo.
