Challenge #142 - Holiday Fun

This time of year is really fun, busy and memorable. That's why this post is about Holiday Fun.  what kinds of things are traditional for your family to do together and celebrate?  We want to see your Christmas Cards or scrapbook pages that show how you remember your family and friends this season. Thank you for sticking with us all of these years and Happy Holidays from the Paper Girls team!

I made some Christmas Cards and some Waldorf Stars to hang in the window. I
love how the light catches them and makes it feel festive during the day.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM  Karrie

Kristy added sparkle to her sentiment with green glitter and colored her stamped image
with chalks.

Michele designed this beautiful page about a memorable Christmas morning.

Brittany created a festive Christmas card.

Heather created a circle card with painted stamps and Distress Inks.

Hi!  It's Kristy. Welcome to our first challenge in December...a Stamping challenge.  Time to break out your stamps and have some fun!  I love how you can do so many different things with stamps.  You can create your background, use it for your sentiment, or even to add a title or date to your project. We can't wait to see how you use stamps in your projects!

Please help me welcome our Guest Designer for this challenge: Bobbi from BobbisTreasure.blogspot.com.

Mom to Ben, a college sophomore student-athlete, wife to Michael, serial crafter/collector, blogger at BobbisTreasure.blogspot.com and Words2CraftBy.blogspot.com, animal lover, aerospace training professional.

Here is her fun card:

Thank you for your card, Bobbi.  And now here are a few projects from our Paper Girl's:

I made a collection of Thank You cards, each with a little different shading.

Here is a close-up, showing a little of the shading.

I used two stamp sets to create the background and the sentiment.

Michele

Challenge #140 - Gold

Welcome back, everyone, for our next challenge.  Michele here, and I have figured out that I am not the quickest person to embrace new trends in scrapbooking. When Gold hit the scene a couple years ago I was stuck. I had trouble seeing what other colors matched it and it was too bright and shiny for my pages. I kinda hated it. Well, as trends go, it started popping up everywhere and the more I saw it, the more I liked it and the more I bought it. I still haven't used it a ton in my projects, so this was a challenge for me as well as all of you!

Challenge #140 - Gold

Before I share my project, let me introduce our Guest Designer for this challenge, Tammy:

Hi, My name is Tammy. I live in Colorado with my wonderful husband and our two fur-babies! I've always had some kind of crafty thing going on in my life. But, when I started to make cards I knew it was the perfect craft for me because I love to color and create with paper. I think the best way to describe my style would be... bold coloring with mostly "cute" images and I love my die cuts! :) I also enjoy cooking, hiking, camping and spending time with my family and friends.
Thanks so much for inviting me to be your guest designer!

My personal blog: My Craft Central

About my card:
I heat embossed the leaves (Neat & Tangled stamp) in ultra fine gold embossing power and colored them with Mustard Seed, Spiced Marmalade and Aged Mahogany distress inks. The sentiment was cut out of Gold adhesive glitter paper using a Lawn Fawn die.

Thank you, Tammy, your leaves are so beautiful and lifelike!  Simply gorgeous!

All right, time for some inspiration from the rest of the Paper Girls:

Michele
I used gold striped paper by Teresa Collins and gold Thickers on my layout.

Brittany
I used gold foiled paper and heat embossed the sentiment in gold for this 50th birthday card.

Heather

Karrie
Gold tones in the papers, gold lettering, jewelry,  and
a pic worth more than a ton of gold.

Erica
I made a money envelope for a traditional Chinese wedding. Red and
gold are lucky colors.

And now...congratulations to the winner of Challenge #139:
Theresa P !

Please send an e-mail to papergirlschallengeblog@gmail.com within the next two weeks and we'll send you details on being a Guest Designer for a future challenge and enter you in our quarterly prize drawing!

Challenge #139 - Honoring Our Veterans

Hello friends!

With Veterans Day just around the corner on November 11th, our challenge this week is to create a project to honor our veterans and recognize the sacrifices of our nation's heroes. We are looking forward to seeing any project you create with our veteran's in mind. Be sure to link your projects to this post no later than 11:55pm (MST) on Saturday, November 18th.

For those of you who have been actively participating in our challenges this last quarter, you may want to stick around to the very end of this post...we have some exciting news :)

BUT now...I would love to introduce you to Ashley !
We are so fortunate to have Ashley guest designing with us for our challenge today!
Hello! I'm Ashley, a 30-something nurse living in Indiana. Every time winter rolls around, I wonder why I haven't moved south yet? I'm engaged and together we have three dogs. I scrapbook 12 x 12, 8.5x11, and pocket style pages and I occasionally make cards. I like variety :) I also like to read and work out (because I love to eat!).

My maternal grandfather was an Army vet and died two years ago. He had a military funeral and I've struggled with how to document his ceremony. I'm grateful for this challenge! I wanted to keep with the traditional red, white, and blue theme and this star stamp was the perfect foundation for my page.

You can find more of Ashley's beautiful projects here (be sure to stop by and show her some love):

Here are the wonderful projects from our design team:

I've been looking forward to scrapbooking these old photos of my Grandpa, Great-Uncle, and Great-Grandpa...three of my favorite Veterans.

Erica
Made a card honoring her Grandfather who is a WWII veteran.

Made a Remembrance day card set.

Michele
Made a simple red, white and blue card.

And now...congratulations to the winner of Challenge #138:
Paperesse!

Challenge #138 - Pumpkin Spice

Hello Karrie  here again.  Happy Fall!
I am not exactly sure what the precise meaning of "pumpkin spice" is, but it seems to be a pretty mainstream fall term these days.  Is it a colour? That dark warm orange?  A flavor?
Like baking with cinnamon and cloves?   A scent? Like sitting by the woodstove breathing in your favourite hot beverage?   Show us!
To me it must be a fresh warm pumpkin pie, spiced with a heavy hand.
Here's my page with a recipe of my favourite spooky spicy treat!

Challenge #137 - Wooden Element Challenge

Hi!  Welcome to Paper Girls' Wooden Element challenge.  It's Kristy here, sharing our challenge with you.  Wood seems to be a hot trend in scrapbooking today - whether it is those cute little piece you attach to your project, or bigger elements you can use for a title, or even the wood grained paper that every paper line seems to have, wooden elements seem here to stay for a while.  And you can do so much with them.  I love all the variety our paper girls have shown us on this project!

For my project, I grabbed a light colored sunburst frame.  After putting my card together, I realized that I didn't like the light color, so I grabbed an alcohol marker and make it the color I wanted it!  Don't be afraid to change up your wooden elements to match your project!

Heather

Brittany
All of my embellishments are wooden. I found this Halloween pack in Target's dollar bins and knew I could use all of them on this layout.

I also did a 2 pager, of my friends wedding, with a package of gold foiled wooden pieces by Prima, some little wooden Studio Calico hearts,   along with some old papers.

Michele

Erica - I added one of my wooden hearts from Studio Calico to accent the stump.

And now...Congratulations to the winner of Challenge #136:

Challenge #136 - Harvest

Here in the Northern Hemisphere we are approaching Autumn and with that is Harvest season. I know we all have so many fun pictures and stamp images that feature the leaves changing and nature's bounty around us. So bring on your State Fair pictures, pumpkin patches, autumn cards, anything that makes you think of Harvest is welcome in this post.

Erica - I chose to stamp some leaves with acorns because they remind me of the Harvest season. The gold accents on the card bring out the warmth of Autumn.

Heather - chose to scrapbook a page about the Pumpkin Patch.

Harvest??  At first I had no ideas beyond... umm  farmers?!
but encouraged by team-mate Kristina, I googled images "Harvest" and it comes up with all these cornucopia of food photos. So I got to thinking with all the hardships going on in this world right now, it makes sense to be thankful that we have loving family, clean water, and a harvest bounty of food at our fingertips. Here's a "Thanksgiving" page premade for our celebration Oct 9

Michele
I stamped and colored fall leaves with Distress Inks to create a simple Thank You card

We usually have an amazing harvest each year from our garden and fruit trees, but this year was disappointing and sad. I wanted to make a layout to remember what we did get - but also remember a tree that we lost in the process :(

Kristy
Nothing says harvest to me like leaves, reds and golds. This cards incorporates all of this.

Challenge #135 - Labor Day

Hello, crafters!

Being the first Monday in September, we are celebrating Labor Day here in the U.S., so what better than to have a challenge to honor workers and their achievements! We want to challenge you to create a project about working or an occupation - or even what Labor Day means to you. This could be about a job you have, had, or wish you had. Or maybe even a layout about what your kid wants to be when they grow up. Or cards to thank someone in an occupation such as a teacher, doctor, delivery person, etc., we can't wait to see your work.

We are very lucky to have Teresa guest designing with us again this week

Hi, my name is Teresa, I am a single parent to Tyler who is 20 and away at University.  I live in Sittingbourne, Kent in the United Kingdom and I am currently working as a Bakery Section Leader in my local Supermarket, but in my spare time I love to make cards.

I have been crafting on and off for many years, starting with knitting and cross stitch.  After a back operation in 2013, I found myselft with lots of spare time and decided to set up a blog to start showing my cards and I haven't looked back since.

My passion is colouring with my Copic and ProMarkers.  With many young boys starting out in their careers at this time of year, I decided to make a good luck card.  I have used a digital stamp and digital paper, keeping it clean and simple.

Be sure to visit her at her blog and tell her hello: http://redobsessioncards.blogspot.co.uk/

And now, here are the projects from our amazing design team:

My occupation is a chemical engineer so I created a chemistry themed card.

I started subbing in my kids' school last year, after being a stay at home mom for nearly 10 years. My son made my first day of school sign and took my picture, like I make him do on his first day of school.

Labor Day weekend falls on the birth of my oldest child. So I decided to do a "Then and Now" page with his birth story.

And now...Congratulations to the winner of Challenge #133:

Please send an e-mail within two weeks to papergirlschallengeblog@gmail.com to receive Guest Designer details and be entered into the prize drawing.
