September is..........................................

What will you that look like for you?

I just started a baby quilt last night.

I plan on sewing a little bit everyday; even if that means sewing only one seam or one tiny bit of embroidery or hand quilting, I am going to make it happen.

My last project was a lovely little ring pillow for a cute little pair of gamers.

I thought I had a pic of the finished item.....the back is the same except for the ribbon.

Started Take A Stitch Tuesdays...first round of stitching complete

Life has just been being lived and blogging has taken a back seat.
Guess what, that's okay.

The hubs and I have vacationed, the grand dot has played, the sewing room is coming along but still has a ways to go. It's all good.

A short picture show.........

Itty Bitty Biscornu

biscornu is a small, 8-sided, stuffed ornamental pincushion, usually made out of Aida cloth or linenEmbroidery or cross-stitch is used to decorate the top and bottom of the cushion. A button is typically secured in the center of the cushion to give a small depression on the top. Beadstassels and other objects can decorate the biscornu. They are typically able to fit in the palm of your hand. The name is derived from a French adjective, meaning skewed, quirky or irregular.

Well, skewed, quirky and definitely irregular......that is my biscornu. lol

I used 2.5" squares from the 'old glory' collection and some antique shell buttons.

things I learned:

When sewing this small, mark all sewing lines
hand sewing is your friend, although I did use the machine
fiddle and make the stuffing a little more even on the "hand close" side
enjoy the wonkiness

There a lots of free tutorials and patterns online....just type in b i s c o r n u.

I made this is less than thirty minutes from...."hey, I could do that" to posting a pic. If I can, you can...trust me! Speedy is not my middle name.

Happy sewing!

Something old, something new, something crafty I must learn to do!

I drove my son to work today and to not waste a trip "over the hill", I stopped at a local quilt shop. It was just to save time, fuel; very green of me, really!
I looked through their fabrics, nice, but nothing standoutish.
Bought some thread that I needed. Am loving Aurifil. It's easier to find than dmc thread for the machine, that's fer sure!
And then I saw it!! It was gor-gee-ous!!! A quilt pattern with dressed up dress forms.
I wanted it!
Needed it!
Had to have it!!
Bought it.
Just one teensy, little problem.......I don't know squat about hand embroidery. Small detail, right?

Weeeeelllllllll, as I looked more closely (after purchase of course) I noticed I can also do it applique` style . I don't think it's quite as cute as the embroidered version, but I know how to do that! ;-) Except it needs some hand stitchery too.

Looks like I will be learning a new skill sometime after the new year. Drop in classes are on the third Monday of the month!!! Where you ask?? Thimble Creek in Concord, CA
