When authoring a disk/disc format (floppy, CD, DVD, Blu-Ray, etc.), dummy files may be added, usually for discouraging illegal copying (by increasing total size and/or reducing efficiency of compression), getting faster reading times (by pushing meaningful files towards the outer edge of the disc), to meet a required minimum size for the format, or sometimes even completely by accident.

Since the content of these files doesn't matter, anything can be used - but sometimes, unusual things can slip in...
