Hazel...

Have you ever wondered why people give names to inanimate objects?
I overheard a lady this week talking about her van. She called it the "White Goose". She said when it had to be worked on she felt very sad for it and missed it dearly. My first thought was,  "OK. ... that's weird.", but my next thought was, "Wait a minute, what about my RV named "Maybelle" and the guitars I call "George" and "Doc" and the mandolin named Hazel, Hazel Dickens to be exact. Then there was Godzilla, and Bluebelle and ... "Well", I say, sort of smug to Hazel, "At least I only give them names,  at least "I" don't personify things that aren't real."
She didn't answer.
Hazel

Have a good rest of the week!!!

Old Man Winter Returns...

The house is brimming with "littles" and it's freezing outside. We are warm and cozy inside. The best way to be.

Wiri Wiri Peppers...

These tiny, round peppers carry a huge wallop. My youngest daughter's boyfriend's family is from Guyana. These are Guyanese peppers. The plant grows about three feet tall and  produces small ½" long by ½" wide berry shaped hot peppers. They are very hot and turn from green, to orange to red as they ripen. My daughter made salsa using my recipe, but instead of jalapeno peppers she used Wiri Wiri's. The salsa was very good.

She gave me some of the peppers and said his mother told her to put them in the sun and dry them in order to plant the seeds. I am going to try it and see if I have any luck. I looked them up on the Internet and was going to order some seeds, but they were on back order. I guess more people know about them than I realized. I have never heard of them.

The Internet said they are used for pepper sauce and to make pepper wine. Well, I perked up at this. It said people in Guyana pour Rum over the peppers and let it sit for three weeks to let the Rum absorb the pepper flavor. They pour a few drops in soups and other dishes to enhance the flavor. Sounds good to me. I'm going to give it a try.

 Have a great week!!!

Solar Eclipse...

The weatherman said it could be either rainy or too cloudy to view the solar eclipse, but at 7:40pm some friends gathered in my driveway. They came prepared with sun glasses and a camera. I had a small telescope and a piece of paper taped to some cardboard. I was scared to look at it. I said I was too old to go blind. Ha!
This is how it looked in the beginning when I was using the telescope and paper. It made it look upside down.
This is about 3/4 of the way
and unfortunately the weatherman's prediction came true. It dropped behind the clouds and we weren't able to see the full eclipse, but we felt fortunate to be able to see it at all. It was beautiful and
left the sky a magnificent shade of blue.
Have a great week!!!

Wordless Wednesday...

Here is what I saw on the porch when I looked out the window of the front door. I tried to take a picture through the glass, but with the glare it was impossible. All I got was a picture of my door. It was so comical I had to share. Excuse the artwork, but you get the idea. The cat was about 2 feet from the skunk. This was my angle and obviously I couldn't open the door.
Have a great tomorrow!!!

Reclaiming The Master Bath...

We've been working on our master bedroom and bath for some time now. This fall we reclaimed our bedroom and today I made progress towards reclaiming the bath. One scrubbed shower ready to be grouted and one sparkling tub ready to be used. We are still working on the ceiling in the bath and sink areas thus the drop cloth in the pictures.
Before cleaning I pulled, pinched, clipped and reworked the houseplants,
including the dying Peace plant.
I like it when I make progress even in small amounts.
Have a peaceful week!!!
