Three Hours Is Too Long...

Why are they making movies so long these days?

Hubby and I went to see two movies this week. We saw "The Hobbit" and "D'Jango". Both were nearly three hours long and felt like it.

I loved "The Hobbit" when I read it and although the movie followed the book it was simply too long. On a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the best I give it a 3 for being so long and for being a trilogy. Sorry to any Hobbit fans who might disagree.

D'Jango was the same. It was simply too long. On a scale of 1 to 5 I give it a 3. I have too much to do to justify spending all day at the movies. Today we arrived at 1pm for the 1:30 showing and left at 4:30.

What happened to the days of hour and a half to two hour movies? Even "Gone With The Wind" had an intermission. I love going to the movies and will continue, but in the future, I will skip the three hour ones.
Have a great weekend!!!

Movie Review...

Lincoln

Lincoln is a 2012 American historical drama directed and produced by Steven Spielberg, starring Daniel Day-Lewis as United States President Abraham Lincoln and Sally Field as Mary Todd Lincoln. The film is based in part on Doris Kearns Goodwin's biography of Lincoln and covers the final four months of his life, focusing on Lincoln's efforts in January 1865 to have the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution pass the United States House of Representatives.~~Wikipedia

Review
Hubby and I went to see Lincoln last Saturday to celebrate his birthday. He loved it! It was approximately 2 1/2 hours long, but seemed less. It was well done, but what Steven Spielberg isn't? Daniel Day-Lewis was superb. The only problem I had was with the slant I felt Hollywood put on it. I was expecting Hollywood to put this slant on it and I wasn't surprised and still enjoyed the overall movie. I give it 4 stars for being a good historical drama. I would watch it again simply to see Daniel Day-Lewis' performance. If you get a chance I recommend it.

Have a great middle of the week!!!

One For The Money...

Hubby took me out yesterday for an early Valentine's Day. We ate at Texas Roadhouse, my personal favorite, and then went to see "One For The Money". If your a reader you already know this was Janet Evanovich's first mystery novel featuring bounty hunter Stephanie Plum. Plum was played by one of my favorite actresses Katherine Heigl. I think she's talented, cute and witty. I like anything she is in.

This movie was quick and humorous. It lasted about an hour and a half. To me any movie that lasts under 2 hours is a good one. I catch myself looking at the time during movies. I can't set there too long without some kind of handwork going.

This action-comedy will appeal mostly to readers of Evanovich. My husband was one of three men in the theatre all accompanied by wives, so you might warn, or not, your hubby before taking him.

Heigl didn't disappoint. I want be putting it on my "watch again" list, but if you want a light-hearted fun movie it's worth going to see.

Have a blessed week!!!

The Woman In Black...

The Woman In Black is an old-fashioned ghost story. For my part it needed to move a little faster. Hubby said it moved slow on purpose to build suspense. I guess he was right. I jumped eight times and even shouted out during one of those jumps. It was eerie without including much gore or violence.
Daniel Radcliff, formerly Harry Potter, did a good job. Once the movie started I didn't think of Harry.
The Woman In Black won't become one of my favorite scary movies, but since I consider myself a master at jumping out from behind a door and giving hubby a near-heart attack, I enjoyed it, if only for the jump factor.
Have a great week!!!

We Bought A Zoo..

We Bought A Zoo is one of the best movies I went to see in 2011.

It's a comedy-drama based on a memoir by Benjamin Mee. The real zoo is in England, but for the purpose of this movie it is set in California. It stars Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson. It's about a recently widowed-father who buys a run-down zoo, moves his two kids to the country, begins to rebuild the zoo, and their lives.

My husband and I went to see it New Year's Day and weren't disappointed. The little girl who plays Damon's daughter is adorable and Matt Damon isn't so bad either. I recommend it for a bit of light entertainment and good, clean, family fun.
Hope you enjoy it!!!

14 More Days 'Till Halloween, Halloween...

October is one of my favorite months of the year. I love scary movies. The creepier the better. I'm not much for blood and gore, but give me a good creepy movie, turn the lights off and I love it.
My favorite part of any scary movie is when the suspense is just right and I yell "AHHH" as loud as I can and everyone in the room jumps and screams. It's just too good.
Some of my recommendations if you are in the mood for a creepy movie on Halloween night are "The Wolfman", "The Mummy's Hand", "The Skeleton Key", "Shutter", "Lady in White", "Watcher in the Woods"and "Halloween 3".

Forget the movies these pictures give me the creeps.
No Michael Meyers.
A Disney movie with Bette Davis.
And don't forget the full moon.
Have a great week!!!

Saturday Night at the Movies...

Just returned from seeing  "The Help". If you haven't seen it I highly recommend it. The book was better, but then it always is. They did a good job with the casting of characters. Hubby and I both enjoyed it.

A Simple Saturday...

Today turned out to be nice and relaxing. Hubby took me to Abilene to the Historic Paramount Theatre. It was built in 1930 and was restored in 1986 and is a nostalgic glimpse into the past.

I love this old theatre. There are clouds projected on the ceiling with twinkling stars. A man with a suit on comes out and introduces the movie (just like in the old days). Then the red velvet curtain is opened and it's showtime. There is an intermission halfway through the movie with concessions available in the basement. We like to sit in the balcony (middle of the front row). It makes seeing these old movies a real treat.

Harry, Harry, Harry...

I am back from a "series of unfortunate events" that have kept me from my computer and put me behind on my blogging. Thanks to Donna from Made in Heaven for checking on me. I am fine and glad to be home. Nothing has changed since I left. It is still blazing hot in Texas with staying cool being the name of the game.

I have been entertaining grandkids as part of their summer vacation and that means lots and lots of movies. This past week has been "Brown Hawk's" turn. We have had a "Harry Potter" marathon that is still going on even as I type. Grandkids are wonderful and I do so enjoy their visits, but it does limit some of the things I normally do, like sit with my computer and blog, so it may be after school starts before I get back completely. I still have two more waiting their turns.

I have read several books lately and will try to review them soon. The last one I read was especially good. I think you will enjoy it. I want reveal the name until I review it.

Time to get back to Brown Hawk and our marathon.
Have a great July 4!!!!
