Birthday Cheers!

My sister had a birthday this past week, but I’ve waited until today to post her card so she wouldn’t see it pop up in her Facebook feed.

I mentioned my sister two months ago when I posted this card for her husband.  They have a barn full of horses, and dogs running everywhere, and even an old pot-bellied pig at their farm.  I really struggled with what to do for her birthday card, since I felt like I had already outdone myself with the card for my brother-in-law.  But anyone who knows my sister even just very casually knows that she likes the color purple, and she likes her beer!  :)  So here’s what I came up with…

Cheers for Kendra

I used the LLD Soda Pop stamp set and Soda Pop Bottles Die-Namics from My Favorite Things to create this card, only I cut the bottles from a medium-brown card stock, and sponged on a little bit of Aged Mahogany ink to give them a reddish cast, like a beer bottle.  I added the “Cheers” sentiment from the Uncorked Words dies from Papertrey Ink, and sponged the background with the Concentric Circle stencil from MFT.

My sister goes to the mailbox about once a week at her place, so I’m still waiting to hear whether she received and liked the card… crossing my fingers that it’s perfect for her!

Color Throwdown #364

Color Throwdown #364 cropped

It’s time again for another Color Throwdown challenge, and this week my BFF Barbara Anders is our hostess.  She snapped this photo of this very ornate shoe while in Italy this past summer, and she thought it’d be a good inspiration photo for our challenge today…

swatch 364

Now, I have to admit… the colors for today are supposed to be lime green, aqua and coral.  I should have checked that before I started.  Because I saw pink instead of coral so I started with a piece of Bubblegum card stock from MFT.  Then, when I realized I needed a darker shade for my flower, I went with Ripe Raspberry and now my card is a little off from the intended colors…

Color Throwdown #364

But it’s still a nice card, no?  :)  I finally used my Quilted Flower Die set from Lil’ Inker Designs for this card to send to a friend who’s birthday I forgot over a week ago!  The Seriously Word die is also from Lil’ Inker Designs, as is the matching Seriously Awesome stamp set.  I played along with the current CAS-ual Fridays challenge #144.  (I followed the far right Tic-Tac-Toe column and did stenciling, die-cutting, and embossing.)

Party Like an Animal

The current Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge is this photo of some great sunglasses, and I really wanted to play along!

shades

I started looking through my stamps, thinking “what can I use… what can I use….”  I noticed that there’s a pair of sunglasses in this I Love Donuts stamp set from Simon Says Stamp.  Now, I’m not sure why those sunglasses are in that set… am I missing a pun there or something?  LOL  Instead, I started thinking about who or what I could put those sunglasses on!  And here’s what I came up with!

Party Like an Animal

Squeee!  Tell me the truth… is he not CUTE?  This sweet little giraffe is from the Party Animal stamp set (and matching die) from Wplus9 Design Studio.  I had actually colored him weeks ago, which made this card come together pretty quickly.  I stamped the sunglasses in Versafine Onyx Black ink, then embossed them with clear embossing powder and cut them out.  The background was watercolored with Cracked Pistachio and Tumbled Glass distress inks, and I flicked on some additional ink with Peacock Feathers and Gathered Twigs.  I added a starry background using some white embossing paste and the Stargaze stencil from My Favorite Things.  The black and white strip at the bottom is from the Dots & Stripes Neutral paper pack from MFT, and I embellished with some Sparkling Clear Mix sequins from Pretty Pink Posh.

I hope you’re having a great week!  Thank you for visiting me today!

Color Throwdown #356

Color Throwdown #356 cropped

Hello friends!  It's time again for the Color Throwdown challenge, and this week Broni is our hostess.  She's got this great inspiration photo for you!  With Summer still in full swing, but Fall on the way there are a LOT of possibilities with these colors...

swatch 356

For my card, I just had to finally use my fantastic new Blissful Blooms stamp set and matching Die-Namics from My Favorite Things…

Color Throwdown #356

I die-cut a BUNCH of flowers and leaves from watercolor card stock, then used my MISTI to stamp them all.  Then I pulled out my Zig Clean Color watercolor markers and started coloring.  After I had a good garden full of flowers, I started on my card.  My layout was inspired by my BFF Barbara Anders and her great CTD card from two weeks ago.  On the Sweet Tooth card stock background I started by applying a thin layer of white embossing paste using the Harlequin stencil from MFT.  After the paste was dry, I laid the stencil back over the embossing and sponged the diamonds with some Orange Zest dye ink.  I layered this panel on a piece of Black Licorice card stock, and mounted to a Sweet Tooth card stock base.  I die-cut the Pierced Fishtail Flags STAX from Green Room card stock, and layered it behind a piece of Black Licorice card stock that was cut with the Blueprints 12 and my Stitched Circle STAX.  Then I arranged my floral bouquet and added the sentiment on a Sweet Tooth card stock Fishtail Flags STAX.  The sentiment is from the LJD Spring Tulips stamp set, but I only used half the sentiment.  A few black enamel dots completed my design.

Birthday Balloons

Hi friends!  During my stamping time this weekend, I worked in a little time to make a card using the current sketch from My Favorite Things.  I really wanted to come up with something other than the stars shown in the sketch for my card, and I am pretty happy with these balloons!

MFTWSC241

I just LOVED the color combo in Stephanie’s cute card here, so I used it for my card today… Orange Zest, Ripe Raspberry, Limelight and Summer Splash.  The balloons and strings were die-cut with the Die-Namics Birthday Balloons.  The balloon strings and sentiment strip were cut from Steel Grey card stock and the sentiment, stamped in Versamark and heat embossed in white, is from the Totally Happy stamp set.  I used my Stitched Circle STAX Die-Namics, and the Blueprints 12 to cut the circle from silver mirrored card stock.  On the Sweet Tooth card stock background panel, I used white embossing paste to add some tiny stars using the Starry Night stencil.  I die-cut the background panel with Blueprints 24 and mounted to a piece of Steel Grey card stock, and a Sweet Tooth card stock base.  A few enamel dots for embellishment completed my design.

Thanks for stopping by!  I appreciate the visits and comments!

Such a Peach

Well, my nice 4-day weekend has come to an end.  It went fast.  :(  I don’t want to go back to work!  Oh well, that’s life!  I did manage to get a lot done and had some good stamping time, too!

Here’s one card I made that combines the current Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge, the current Colour Q challenge, and the current CAS(E) This Sketch….

Such a Peach

I had used my Zig Clean Color markers last weekend when I was stamping with friends to color these peaches from Wplus9 Design's Punny Produce: Peaches stamp set.  I used some white embossing paste on the background with the Harlequin stencil from My Favorite Things, and added a few background stamps from MFT including the BG Fine Chevron, BG Diagonal Stripes, and the Darling Dots stamp set. My Favorite Things Die-Namics used include the Zig Zag Stitched Circle STAX, the Stitched Scallop Edges, and Blueprints 13.

Happy Monday, and thanks for stopping by!

MFT Summer School Secondary Colors

I made one more card for the 8th day of Summer School with My Favorite Things, this time using the secondary colors from the color wheel of orange, green and purple.  As a coincidence, orange, lime green and grape (purple) are some of my favorite flavors of POPSICLES!  :)
MFTWSC238
I borrowed the LJD You’re the Sweetest set from my friend Kirsty this week, and had some fun.  The popsicles were stamped with Limelight, Lavender Fields and Orange Zest premium dye inks, and then I applied Glossy Accents over each one for a frozen shine.  I also used the dye inks to create my watercolor panel behind the popsicles after I stamped it with the new BG Balloon Strings background stamp.  I stamped in Versarmark, then heat embossed with detail white embossing powder and used a water brush to apply the inks.  This panel was cut with the Pierced Rectangle STAX Die-Namics.  I think the strings look cool sideways like this… kinda’ makes you think of waves of summer heat?  On the Smooth White card stock background panel that was cut with Blueprints 13 Die-Namics I used white embossing paste and the Large Polka Dots stencil.  I stamped the sentiment in Steel Grey hybrid ink on a flag cut with the Blueprints 12 Die-Namics.  The popsicle sticks were die-cut with In the Buff card stock, and I sponged a little Natural hybrid ink on them for definition.
The layout for my card is from the My Favorite Things sketch #238 for this week.
Well, that’s all for me this week for Summer School at My Favorite Things!  I sure wish Summer School had been this fun 30 years ago!  (Yes… had to go once when I didn’t pass Geometry!  And I said back then, and I still say it now… I will never need Geometry in my life!  LOL)
Thanks for stopping by today!

Hope Your Day is Cool

These new Birdie Brown Penguins in Paradise stamps that were just released at My Favorite Things were just too irresistible… I had to order last week!  And having the matching dies just makes it so easy to create a fun little scene for Mr. Penguin to enjoy…

Cool Day by Tammy Hershberger

I actually colored my little penguin earlier as part of #thedailymarker30day2 challenge, and then used him for this card.  I browsed a few challenge blogs looking for layout inspiration and actually found THREE challenges I could use for this card!  That almost never happens for me but I used the current Clean & Simple Stamping layout #15, then worked the little beach ball into the design for the current Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge, and then found that Crazy 4 Challenges #289 this week is to include sunshine in your project!  My penguin, tree and beach ball are all colored with Copics, of course.  To create the little beach scene, I die-cut a Pierced Rectangle STAX Die-Namics from Sno Cone and Natural card stock.  Then, to make the sand I used the Rolling Hills Die-Namics, but used only the hill piece.  I added a few Flat Bottom Clouds Die-Namics cut from Sweet Tooth card stock and stamped a strip of Ripe Raspberry card stock with the BG Grid background stamp.  On the Lemon Chiffon back panel, I used the Tim Holtz Rays stencil using Lemon Chiffon hybrid ink.  I matted the panel on a piece of Black Licorice card stock, then mounted everything to a Sno Cone card stock base.

I can see myself having a LOT more fun with this sweet stamp set!

Have a great day!

Color Throwdown #345

First of all, please allow me one quick moment of proud mama indulgence…

IMG_2985

Yay, she graduated!  There’s my baby girl, beaming after receiving her diploma!  This was on Sunday, and we have her party coming up on Saturday at our house.  Can’t wait to see family and friends!

OK, now… on to today’s Color Throwdown!  Wanda is our hostess today, and her colors were inspired by this wonderful photo that just screams summer time!

swatch 345

I guess my tendency with these colors was to lean towards red flowers, but I tried to think a little more outside the box.  I focused on the black and white instead, which led me to finally use my The Whole Herd stamp set from My Favorite Things

Color Throwdown #345

I used the Sweet Sunday Sketch #271 for this week for the layout with my cute Bessie the cow!  Isn’t she cute there in her Stitched Circle STAX Die-Namics circle, with the Rolling Hills Die-Namics fence in the background?  I added a small cloud from the Cloud Trio Die-Namics in the sky, and used the Cow Print stencil in the background, sponged with Steel Grey hybrid ink.  This was a perfect card to make and send to my cousin, whose birthday I forgot last week!

TCPTuesday #289 – Just a Note

TCPTuesday289 close-up
It must be Tuesday because it’s time again for a new TCPTuesday challenge from The Cat’s Pajamas!  This week is an inspiration challenge, so here are you photos for… what else, inspiration!
TCPTUES-289_Inspiration
There are several elements from both photos that inspired me… the bird, the music paper and text, and the colors of the jars mostly.  Here’s my card…
TCPTuesday289 by Tammy Hershberger
I made some clouds on my blue card stock background with white embossing paste, then used the musical notes from The Tweetest Things stamp set to stamp on the clouds.  The branch and leaves were just cut on my Silhouette, and then I die cut the birdhouse from the Home Tweet Home Cutups dies.  I added some text print to the birdhouse and a sentiment, also from The Tweetest Things stamp set.
I hope you’ll play along with us this week!  You could win some Cat Cash for joining, so go and get inky!  Stop by the TCP blog for all the details!

Color Throwdown #336

Color Throwdown #336 close-up by Tammy Hershberger

Hello friends!  It’s time for another Color Throwdown challenge, and this week Wanda is our hostess.  Here is her color combo…

swatch 336

Now, I have to admit I reeeeeally struggled with these colors because I thought they just screamed FALL, and a Fall-themed card is not what I want to make when Spring is on the verge of bursting forth.  So in addition to the colors, I just used the photo in general as inspiration and created this card…

Color Throwdown #336 by Tammy Hershberger

I used the Small Brick Wall stencil from My Favorite Things, and some white embossing paste on the background panel then sponged the bricks with Brick Red Hybrid ink after the paste was dry.  I also sponged the outer edges of the background panel with some Antique Linen distress ink.  The bicycle was first cut out with my Silhouette using the Digital Cut File from Kitchen Sink Stamps, and then I stamped the bike using my MISTI and the Multi-Step Bicycle stamp set from KSS.  (Did you know that I had a hand in designing this KSS stamp set?  My green card stock here is the old River Rock from Stampin’ Up! which I’ve always thought was such a pretty, subtle, soft shade of green.  But no matter what I did here, it looks like kraft in my photo, don’t you think?  Trust me, it’s more green than it appears!  :)  All in all, even thought it took awhile to get my mojo started for this card, I’m happy with how it turned out!

Color Throwdown #335 close-up by Tammy Hershberger
Gotta’ say, I just love Wednesdays because it’s always time for another Color Throwdown challenge!  This week Vickie is our hostess, and you can do a LOT with the colors she has chosen.  Check it out…

I got a new stamp set this week, so I just couldn’t resist using it for my card today.  And I used the current Sweet Sunday Sketch #261 (except that I tilted my background panels a little!)
Color Throwdown #335 by Tammy Hershberger
My stamp set is the new Brushed Blooms from Papertrey Ink, and the matching die.  On the yellow background panel, I added some texture with some translucent embossing paste and the Harlequin stencil from My Favorite Things.

Color Throwdown #334

Color Throwdown #334 cropped by Tammy Hershberger

It's time for another Color Throwdown, and this week I'm hosting the challenge.  I bought a new Vera Bradley purse a few weeks ago in my favorite color (love me some orange!) and thought "these colors would make for a good challenge!"  So I hope you'll join us this week and create some orange, pink and navy things for me to see.

swatch 334

Several weeks ago, that darn ol' Broni made another card that had me drooling... she's very good at inspiring me and forcing me to spend money!  Only problem was, the Circle Scribbles die she used on this card was sold out when I went to buy it.  But lo and behold, if My Favorite Things didn't come to my rescue with their recent release and now I have the darling LJD Scribbles Die-Namics to use instead!  Here's my card...

Color Throwdown #334 by Tammy Hershberger

I cut the Scribbles from Cotton Candy card stock, then added some flowers from the Wplus9 Design Studio Fresh Cut Florals stamped in orange inks.  The navy blue card stock background was embossed with a chevron stencil, and I finished the design with a sentiment flag and enamel dots.

Sneaky Peek Week Begins at The Cat’s Pajamas

Sneaky Peek Week
Did you happen to stop by The Cat’s Pajamas blog yesterday?  If not, you’re missing it… Sneaky Peeks have begun for another great new release!  Today we’re featuring a new stamp set by a new artist for TCP, Tamara Hess and it’s called Hear Me Roar!  This lion is about the cutest thing ever…

TCP Sneaky Peek #2 by Tammy Hershberger

If you check out the full view of the set down below, you can see that our lion is actually ready for an Easter egg hunt!  But I was already set on these colors for my card, which didn’t seem very Easter-y to me, so I went with what I had.  You can see in this close-up I used some pale yellow ink to add the flowers from the set as a background…

TCP Sneaky Peek #2 cropped by Tammy Hershberger

The set that was sneak peeked yesterday is none other than Sprinkle and friends heading for outer space.  The Space Cadet stamp set will bring lots of fun to your creations!

TCP Sneaky Peek #1 by Tammy Hershberger

I used the new stamp set for my card, as well as the Bitty Banners Cutups, and the Toppers Cutups die to create the notebook edge at the top of my main panel.  I added some stars with silver embossing paste, and made it even more sparkly by mounting everything on a sheet of silver glitter card stock.

Here are some details you need to know:

1. All the new stamps and dies will be released on Tuesday,  March 17.

2. If you're IN IT TO WIN IT, visit the TCP Forum at Splitcoaststampers to comment and chat on the IN IT TO WIN IT thread every day for an opportunity to score some new TCP goodies.

Color Throwdown #332 cropped by Tammy Hershberger

Lori is our hostess today for Color Throwdown #332, and she’s thinking Spring with these cute boots to inspire our colors.  After all the snow we’ve had again this Winter, I dream of the need to wear a pair of boots like these on a muddy Spring day!  :)
swatch 332
I had fun with these colors, pulling out my Whale of a Time stamp set from The Cat’s Pajamas
Color Throwdown #332 by Tammy Hershberger
I used the current Sweet Sunday Sketch #258 for layout inspiration, and paper-pieced my whale with some aqua blue designer paper.  I added some waves from the stamp set on the navy blue panel behind the whale, and embossed the red card stock with a waves stencil.

“Eye” Think You’re Terrific

TCPTuesday284 close-up by Tammy Hershberger
I’ve been keeping a little secret for a few weeks now!  And the joy of this secret is that it has helped me immensely to get out of the stamping/creative slump I’ve been in!
Say hello to the newest member of The Cat Pack!  I am officially a member of the design team for the awesome company The Cat’s Pajamas!  I’m totally excited to be joining this fantastic group of girls, and I cannot say enough good things about company owner, Alma de la Rosa!  I felt an instant bond with her in the first few emails we exchanged, and am honored and proud to represent The Cat’s Pajamas!
The TCP Tuesday challenge continues this week with the color challenge…
TCPTUES284 Color Challenge
I posted a card a few days ago that I made with these colors, but of course had to make a new one for today!
TCPTuesday284 by Tammy Hershberger
Can I just tell you… this Aye, Eye, I stamp set is a TON of fun!  The set is full of many different phrases that are a play on words, and when you combine it with the Under My Hat Cutups, you can really go crazy.  I used the current Freshly Made Sketch #174 for layout inspiration here.
I hope you’ll stop over at the TCP Blog and join us for the challenge this week!  You could win some Cat Cash to spend, and also could be in the running to be the next Swanky Stamper!  The use of The Cat’s Pajamas stamps is not required, but if you’ve got ‘em, why not use ‘em?!
Thank you for sharing my wonderful news today, and thank you for stopping by my blog!

Christmas Canvas

Way back in May (when the temps were a LOT warmer than they are now!) I took a wonderful trip to Florida and visited the My Favorite Things boutique in Eustis.  The MFT girls had a fabulous weekend-long retreat that I got to go to where we made some wonderful cards and other things.  One of the projects we made that weekend was our own version of this beautiful canvas designed by my BFF Barbara Anders.
Well, I’ve wanted to make another canvas similar to that for the longest time, but never seemed to get around to it.  And back in August when I visited my favorite Aunt at the new assisted living she moved to, I noticed that beside the door to her room was a little shelf where she could display pretty things, and I knew I wanted to make her something to put there.  So, I was going to do something for Fall but never got around to it.  Well, NOW my daughter is heading back to my hometown for a quick visit this weekend, so I finally got the canvas done to send with her!
Here we go…
Christmas Canvas for Aunt Thead by Tammy Hershberger
Using the canvas that Bar so beautifully designed as a guide, I created this version using the MFT Poinsettia Die-Namics.  Behind the flowers I used the (now retired) High Tea Doily Die-Namics, along with some jute string.  The canvas was prepped with some kraft paint and gesso, and then on the canvas I randomly stamped the chicken wire from the MPD Distressed Backgrounds stamp set, and the BG Romantic Script background… both were stamped using waterproof ink.  I also applied some embossing paste using the MPD Brick Wall stencil, and stamped some of the script over that, too.  The sentiment is from the Cheerful Christmas Greetings stamp set, stamped in Jellybean Green hybrid ink.  I embellished with some flat-back pearls, and some wood veneer snowflakes that were sprayed with silver shimmer.  The poinsettias, leaves and doily were also stamped with pearl and gold shimmer sprays.
Christmas Canvas cropped by Tammy Hershberger
My Aunt Thead has that dreadful macular degeneration, so her eyesight isn’t the greatest, but I told my daughter to encourage her to gently run her fingers around this so she can feel all the texture.  :)
Happy Friday, everyone!  Thanks for visiting my blog today!

Color Throwdown #311

CTD311 cropped
Happy Hump Day, my friends!  I'm ready for this week to be over already... how about you?  If your week is feeling as long as mine, maybe we can make it better with a little Color Throwdown?  Barbara is our hostess this week with some pretty colors!
swatch 311
I picked up a new stamp set a month ago, and finally got around to using it this week!
CTD311
I just couldn't resist this To Thine Own Shelf stamp set from Simon Says Stamp when I saw it on Debby Hughes' blog awhile back.  That "I blame my shelf" sentiment just CRACKS. ME. UP!  The stamp set comes with a bunch of books and different width shelves and other things to put on the shelf, along with a few other great sentiments.  Very fun set!
For my card layout, I used the Sweet Sunday Sketch #237 for this week, and I used a tag for the focal piece so that I could enter the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Tag It! challenge.

Color Throwdown #308

CTD308 cropped
It’s time for my favorite part of the week… Hump Day and Color Throwdown day!  :)  Are you ready for another challenge?  Joan is our hostess this week and she’s trying to hold on to the last bits of Summer with these bright, sunny colors…
swatch 308
With the shade of orange in there, I had no choice but to use my new Fresh ‘n Fruity stamp set from Reverse Confetti.  Ever since this set was released, I saw so many cute cards using it so I finally gave up resisting and ordered it last week!
CTD308
I’ve got lots of polka dots happening on my card this week!  LOL  But I just love ‘em… polka dots are timeless.  I also used the September Sketch for You to Try from Reverse Confetti for my card layout.  Starting with the orange card stock base, I added a white panel that was embossed with the Large Polka Dots stencil from My Favorite Things, and then added two strips of yellow polka dot designer paper from Echo Park that were cut with the Horizontal Stitched Strips Die-Namics.  The bright pink tag was die-cut using the Tag Me Confetti Cuts from RC.  I stamped the tag with Razzle Berry hybrid ink using the BG Diagonal Stripes background stamp, and then stamped the sentiment.  I finished my card with an orange polka dot ribbon, and some enamel dots.
I added another orange and the rest of the sentiment on the inside…
